I have the camera set very close to the coin with the flex shaft bent so the camera is within an inch or so of the coin at a slight angle. I also adjusted the light level down from maximum until the details were the best I could make them. I hope this helps!

Bonnie Nutter Whatever you do, do NOT clean any of your coins. It will ruin their potential value. Get a copy of the Red Book for US coins and start by looking up your collection with it. The Cherrypickers guide is also helpful when looking for errors that may not be in the Red Book. Look at each coin under the digital scope for possible unknown errors as well. @@techmasters4653 Your very welcome. I have a coin that I was going to clean. The coin says George Washington 1789 1st President, U.S.A 1797 and both sides have a head. It's a smidgen bigger than a quarter. Someone put a hole in the top and it appears to me they may have worn it as a necklace. The hole took out the "id" in President. The hole looks like it is as old as the coin. Were these coins made with a head on both sides? I can't make out anything else on this coin without a digital Microscope. I'm using and cheap hand held magnifier. My father collected coins and old watches. It was his hobby and he never sold any. I have the collection now and I'd like to know what I have because if they are very valuable I'll need to buy a safe. He kept them in one but that thing was way to heavy for me to bring home. Bonnie Nutter That sounds like a fairly common token that you can find if you google your description. They all have that hole to be used as jewelry. It is a cool token, but not super valuable. That doesn’t mean that the rest of your dads collection might not be quite rare. Sometimes it just takes one find that is rare to make a collection quite valuable. Good luck cataloging the collection, and have fun learning what you have. That is the exciting part of collecting!
