COLD CASE: Missing person, Michael John Olson was last seen in West Palm Beach, Florida on December 1, 1979. He is from Edina, Minnesota, and had been a student at the University of Minnesota, studying business, but he was taking time off school when he disappeared.
Several weeks before his disappearance he traveled to Florida and got a job as a bag boy at the President Country Club in West Palm Beach. He was staying temporarily at the Howard Johnson's hotel on Okeechobee Boulevard.
This video documents Adventures With Purpose's search for Michael Olson, using the clues left behind with an emphasis on the AWP's 5-mile search strategy.
- Where were they last seen?
- Where did they live?
- Where did they work?
- Where did they go to school?

========
CASE DETAILS
Friday, November 30, was Olson's day off from work. He played golf and then went to a rental agency trying to find a permanent place to live. At 6:00 p.m., he went to the dog track with coworkers, a mile from his hotel, to watch some races. It is known he placed some bets but it isn't clear how much he won or lost.
Olson and his friends went to a bar after the track closed and watched a boxing match on television there, then went to two other bars, staying until closing time at 4:00 a.m. on December 1. His friends stated he didn't drink very much. At 5:00 a.m., Olson dropped one of his friends off and said, "I'll see you at work in the morning," then drove away, presumably back to his hotel. He has never been heard from again.
When Olson missed work later that Saturday, his friends called his hotel and got no answer. They drove to the hotel that night and his car, a maroon 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix, wasn't there. Sunday morning they spoke to the hotel desk clerk, who confirmed he hadn't checked out. The clerk thought Olson might have decided to leave without settling his bill, and called the police. The next day, Monday, Olson's boss called his parents and told them Olson was missing.
Olson was apparently happy with how things were going in Florida and his parents didn't believe he would have walked out of his life, especially without taking his clothes or other belongings with him.
Because he had just cashed his paycheck and a $700 check his parents sent him, he may have been carrying up to a few thousand dollars when he disappeared. He wasn't involved with drugs and his family stated even if he had gotten in trouble, such as by gambling away all his money at the dog track, he wouldn't have been afraid to come home and ask them for help.
Olson's family theorizes he was murdered, either because he accidentally witnessed criminal activity, or because thieves wanted to steal his new car and the cash he had on him. The Grand Prix has never been recovered and there has been no sign of Olson since 1979.

Doug, as always being a true professional. I wanted to say though that the editing team needs to get some love. The editing and production value of your segments is really top notch. I have been a long time watcher, and I have seen how the channel has improved over the years, and content like this in quality is the reason I watch KZfaq. Stay safe guys, and thank you so very much for what you do. You are truly public servants and in my opinion as a veteran, every day heroes.

I am very happy that the longer you’ve been doing this, the nicer the officers, deputies and sheriffs have become. EVERYTIME you guys would come and recover someone that hadn’t, they would be so nasty and adversarial with you. I think because of all the recoveries you’ve done now that they realize what a valuable asset you guys are. I live in Florida and I can tell you that our waterways probably have more cars in them then anywhere else. We are basically one big swamp and back in the 80’s and 90’s there were a lot of people doing insurance fraud on cars.

Ive noticed that as well. When I started watching, many tended to be rather arrogant - as if you were stepping on THEIR toes. In fact they should have been taking note of everything AWP were doing and LEARNING FROM THEM and NOT try to tell you what YOU SHOULD BE DOING - BLAHBLAHBLAH! All they did was to show 'the egg on their faces' through trying to be TOO SMART instead of admitting they had so much LACK OF KNOWLEDGE on their part! It shows after watching this show for so long now. I have to have time off and watch something else but still come back - waiting to see more - from 🇦🇺 Sth Australia PS You are going from strength to strength with this show. WOW! Keep up the the good work and most importantly 'PLEASE KEEP SAFE'.

This is one case that a magnetometer would definitely be useful! I just donated again! Excellent and model law enforcement officers! Great respect between them and AWP! The more agencies you interact with will see how professional, trustworthy, honest, and willing you are to work with and cooperate with them. I’m always impressed at the amount of research put into these cases and how it is presented. Doug is an extraordinary and authoritative storyteller. He really draws you into the case with rich detail and inflection in his voice. I’m listening with my earbuds at work and can see everything that he describes it so clearly! Optimism drives Doug! The iguana and birds are leading you and thanking you for cleaning up their habitat! I’m sure the entire community is thanking you! I know I am! Buy one of the new beanies! Jared, we miss you, but thank you for recruiting Doug and letting him take the reins for a little while to learn the ropes and showcase his talents! I love it when Jared, Doug or Josh start out the video saying, " This is one episode you don't want to miss ". I am so into their channel I don't want to miss any episode. I am an avid viewer and loyal subscriber. At this time I cannot financial support them or any of the other diving groups they work with. I spread the word as much as possible. I was sharing with the guy I work with and he said his mom watches this channel. When Kylie Rodni, 16 year old young. She possibly drove off in her vehicle while in the dark and under the influence. On a KZfaq channel that first covered her story I suggested in the comment section for someone to reach out to AWP. Although they do not take on cases involving new vehicles in the water as they are hard to spot on sonar technology somehow they did take on this one and recovered her and her vehicle on August 21st after others spending 19,000 plus hours looking for her. Now, how awesome is that! Blessings to AWP, their families for sharing these men and there time away from them and all involved in the recovery and production of coverage on these cases!

its crazy how many people steal vehicles and just dump them in the waterways. that stuff destroys the ecosystem from the oil and gas and other contaminants. i found 3 trucks myself in 2 separate quarries. people dont see the vehicles because the water is murky or its to deep to see them. most vehicles are to far gone to be removed cause they've been under water 30 plus years. some are still intact enough to move. finding missing loved ones takes a toll on the metal and emotional system but doing a good service truly makes it worth while. i hope you guys find and bring more missing people home to their families so they can begin healing. we got a missing man here in cape breton. im doing all i can to go help the family. thank you guys for your outstanding work! and all the compassion and love you all have in helping families find resolution. love you guys. i will always be here showing my support, sharing, commenting and spreading the word about AWP. thank you all for giving me a purpose in my life. its opened many closed doors! love from your friend james rideout A.K.A James Rideout Adventures

These guys had their sh*t together (like many others you've featured on here, not trying to diminish any of the other ones)! As a viewer it's just always a question I have at the beginning of these videos what kind of response/treatment you guys are going to get from the local authorities once they're required to get involved or take action. Profiling Evil is frequently asked by AWP to help with research on their cases. He has an excellent one in this case and mentioned that the police chief was a friend and he had called him. This undoubtedly paved the way for a warm welcome. Also see Mike King’s (Profiling Evil) 17- minute video after Kiely was found.

My favorite part is when you get down to the vehicle and start investigating . Deep water scares me, so dark and unknown. When we were kids we swam in the rock quarries. You could not see the bottom and it terrified me, I was always the first one to get out of the water, being so creeped out by the deep, dark water and my friends teased me.I remember the panic I felt. Thanks for showing us your adventures. Cleaning up waterways and bringing closure to families who lost loved ones is very admirable. Your skills using the equipment is impressive. Stay safe! 🤗
