Donald Messier was reported missing by family members on October 18, 2006, after he was last seen in the early morning hours of October 15, 2006, at a party in Waitsfield, VT.
Donnie did not show up to work on that following Monday or make any contact with friends or family since that day in October. (Missing Person)

CASE DETAILS
Family reported that Donnie was depressed and possibly suicidal.
The evening before Donnie went missing, he went to a friend’s house to watch a NASCAR race before making his way to a party in the town of Waitsfield.
At around 2 a.m. on October 15, 2006, Messier was last seen driving away from the party in his distinctive red Ford F150, decorated with NASCAR numbers displayed in the rear window.
Police reports from the time indicated Messier wasn’t intoxicated.
“Some say he was in good spirits, some say he was a little bit down,”
Det. Trooper Isaac Merriam said. “We do know there is nothing abnormal about the party based on witness statements. No arguments ensued that we were made aware of that night.”

In the midst of a divorce, Messier was in treatment for depression, according to his family members. One scenario that investigators floated was that he might have decided to take his own life and perhaps chose a remote spot - even a body of water such as the Waterbury Reservoir
Our search did not uncover any evidence of Donnie or his vehicle in the Waterbury Reservoir.
To date, neither Donald nor his vehicle has been located.

My ex's uncle disappeared several years ago on a slippery well-traveled highway and was not found for days, after my FIL remembered the similar disappearance of a lady into a small hollow on the other side of the roadway. His truck had gone airborne and landed upside down in the ditch, where the brush covered him from view of the helicopters and the roadway. The dark underside of the truck acted as camoflage. Praying for the family, and continued safety for AWP.

I would check in with his friends and interview them. I would also check his last known place, sometimes it is easier to talk to a stranger than family. Places he has visited in the past with sentimental value / vacation haunts etc or places where he used to carry out any pastimes. As a retired Police Officer I have had many missing persons and found they confided in all kinds of people and never with family. Just a few thoughts ! Good luck.

I agree with Ady. If he was depressed then maybe he could have been heading to somewhere that was sentimental to him and his estranged wife or to her house. Divorce is such an emotional experience and when u add the possibility of alcohol & an argument at a party, it tends to make people even more emotional. My nephew committed suicide a few years ago. He had a big, close family that loved him very much. To us he seemed happy and never would have expected him to end his own life. It wasn’t until after the fact that we had heard from his friends how much emotional pain he was in. Prayers to Donnie and his family 🙏🏼 God Bless what you and your team does to try to bring closure to these families. To Ady- thank you for your service to your community 💙

It occurred to me this morning what one of the really great things about AWP is. We live in a time when everything is politicized. Yet there is nothing political about this. Going out and spending time and money to help others is simply American. And that alone makes them a welcome addition to our times.

Waterbury is my hometown and I now live in Waitsfield. Donnie and my parents were best friends and I grew up with him in my life. I've heard alot of "stories and rumors" about what happened and it's very difficult to understand it all. He was a giant teddy bear who loved everyone and had a very big heart. It's hard to come to terms that someone could/would hurt him. Thank you AWP for looking for him! It means so much to all of us who love and miss him! Keep doing what you do and bringing family/friends back to their loved ones.

Was he fighting against the divorce? When did he last see or speak to the wife? Is he a jealous man? If he's jealous then I believe he's suicidal. Was he drunk or wasted when he left the party? What was the weather like that night??

He never left the party, nor will anyone at that party will talk. I’m Donnies niece, and yea suicide is an option, but with everything good he had coming his way he wouldn’t have just left all of us.

@@Scratchingforcash he’s just looking at other options like possibly he got turned around cuz he was impaired and drove opposite where he thought he was I’m thinking! My ex would get lost all the time when he was drunk and I’d get a phone call he was either in jail or he’d tell me he’s lost! Wasn’t MY problem anymore at that time so I’d tell him call his sister but it happens.

Jared, I’ve watched Adventures with a Purpose for some time! I remember you saying there were 3 ways to hide a vehicle. One of them was hiding a car in water! On our reservation, Navajo, there are family members that have searched high and low for a family member and her truck that have gone missing. I noted a picture with Wheatfield Lake behind one of the searches. So, just by chance, I thought I can spark your interest to help the family! There are other lakes in the area. Doug that is very smart to do a grid. Not everyone will do that and those who do are not shareing the information for others to try. Hi new member 🥰 just found your channel 3 days ago, love so much what you do to try to bring answers to family's, I lost my brother to a car accident back in 2000, he and his fiance went over a cliff, 250ft drop into a river on a holiday in Jamaica, I'm always so thankful that they were found and brought home, feelings I went through then brings me complete understanding of the pain and questions you go through. Looking at the map, if he went to Denny's that morning and was suicidal, there is a boat ramp just minutes away to the west off of S Cove RD. I don't know how deep the water is but it might be worth a shot. There is also a pond off of 17 by the Appalachian Gap Trail head. Again, I don't know the depth.

Hey Guys, sending lots of respect from Manchester England. I've watched many of your adventures on KZfaq and find them compulsive viewing. What you do for the the folks of missing loved ones, at no cost to them, is a credit to you all. Also the compassion and care you show for those people, and the missing loved ones is commendable, and I'm sure as with me, it fills people's hearts with warmth. I don't think you realise how emotionally touching it is for people around the world to watch you, I always have a tear in my eye, when you finally answer those questions that have tormented those poor people seeking closure. Keep it up!!

am the same. outside of search & rescue in mountain areas, and the RNLI, I don't know of search volunteers here who do it in bodies of water.

Something tells me that Bubba is a prideful man and possibly wouldn’t have wanted to do this (commit suicide) so close to home, to unfortunately be found by his loved ones. So I’m thinking he drove a bit to ponder his profound decision and sadly did it maybe 30-45 minutes outside of his hometown. Lastly, is there a favorite fishing spot or summer place he frequented that may fill his heart with positive memories before leaving this earth??Lifting his entire family, friends and community up in prayer and I graciously pray that they can bring Bubba home as soon as possible 💙🙏🏻💙

I watch you guys all the time, and I believe your mission to bring closure to families of missing loved ones is admirable. Usually I’ll look at satellite imagery of your search areas while watching your videos. While panning outward from the Waitsfield town line I noticed a small lake just south of the town line, called Blueberry Lake. Taking East Warren Road south out of Waitsfield puts you on a nearly direct line to the Car Top boat launch access at the north end .I’m not sure of the depth of the lake, as my search of Vermont Lake contour charts came up empty on this one. Just a thought that you may want to pursue, even if it’s just some research into the viability of this location. Keep up the great work and stay safe while doing it.

This is a tough one. Lack of solid information is a real challenge. I wonder, if he was in fact depressed, had an evaluation at a hospital, that sounds like he may have been experiencing suicidal thoughts. I know that the brother-in-law says no way, but no one knows what exactly going on in his mind. People that are up beat all the time, many times hide a lot of emotion through laughter. Also wondering if he had any favorite childhood places he would have gone to just to think about everything he was dealing with? Did he have medication that the hospital gave him? Were the auto junk yards checked by LE. If he met with foul play someone might have disposed of him and the truck in a junk yard. Any abandoned buildings or barns in the area he was known to be.

@@NanaReese1963 the problem is, the person does not realize the loss involved for everyone left living that loved and/or had a relationship with them. I lost a friend from high school/church. I found out a few years after that she had done this exact thing....I balled my eyes out for her and whatever pain she was going through at the time. I also wished I had kept in touch....maybe I could have made a difference....we just don't know.....kiss and love those near you. Life is not guaranteed. God Bless everyone.

Being "a bit down" can progress to suicidal ideation in a matter of a couple of hours for some people. The thought that you just can't do it anymore becomes a pervasive thought, and 2 or 3 hours later, you're convinced suicide is your best option. He could have left for that party seeming normal and, at some point, decompensated very quickly. It's an idea that should definitely be explored. Like someone said, easy access or spots that held some personal meaning to him.

As always, AWP does a fantastic job helping these people to find answers. The technology you use is very good! I think I would see it there are logging roads or farm ponds that are close by. Rarely do people think their loved one will commit suicide but it happens all the time.

My mom's generation used to tell us we'd be sorry when we got older (after we failed to dress warm) and I can confirm they were right. Please guys look after yourselves x

No such thing as someone who wouldn't commit suicide.....my boyfriend was in that category, but he hung himself. Nobody knows what is going on in someone else's head, sadly

Family and friends don't want to think that their loved one would commit suicide, but it happens. There are some people who want to commit suicide and never show any signs that they are feeling that way and thinking of doing that.

I dont have any information about this case personally. I do urge any one that thinks they have information even if the information is small. It all can make a difference. my son went missing in 2008 - lost at sea. They didn’t find the him or boat. It is a very hard roller coaster of emotions on a daily basis. I am so thankful knowing people like AWP and their associates are out there make a huge difference. Just knowing and seeing someone looking for your family member brings relief. When parties happen, you always have to consider that someone overdosed at a party, thus leading to someone hiding what happened. If not found in the general area, a person could hide them in water a little further away. That is what I would do, if I wanted to hide a vehicle. I wouldn't hide them too close. The police would look at everyone, including the people he went home to. Not accusing, just possibilities. Also when someone is truly intent on suicide, they might hide it from everyone, even though they had been planning it a long time, because you don't want anyone to stop you.

Regardless of the outcome you’re always showing how committed you are as a team . Great job nonetheless. I held my breath again when Jared went under the surface of the water . I hope the family can at least say some questions were answered .

What if he drove into the lake near Denny's? Even though the brother in law said that he doesn't think Donnie was suicidal...you sometimes end up doing stupid things when you're upset... I just hope he'll be found one day so the family will find peace. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing it with the world.

The minute I saw this on the news saying police found a vehicle that had been missing for 16 years I knew you found it not them. They need to stop taking credit for your work. Details of the underlying factors involving Donnie's disappearance are tantamount to solving his case. Start with the basics. Was his relationship with his ex wife adversarial? Who were the people surrounding his wife after their separation? Was there a possible chance of another person affecting her judgement? Details from the party he attended. Was the ex wife there? FAR too many unanswered questions to assume anything. The answer is known only to Donnie as of this point, so it is up to those left in his absentia to find out the truth. Very mysterious indeed. Jared, you and your entire team have shown the passion, dedication and expertise to allow these grieving families to find closure in the face of sometimes impossible odds. We, your viewers and followers appreciate your tireless effort to bring peace and closure to these families. God protect and watch over you and your crew as you indeed do God's work.

Without knowing Donnie it's hard to make a Guess on what happened or where he may be. good job guys for getting a little bit of answer for his family. it's very possible that Donnie just drove off to parts unknown to start his life over.

I have followed AWP's videos since early on, and now im finally I am doing my PADI course. You guys are changing lives for the better directly and indirectly all over the world. Getting the answers for those families is incredibly important, I cant imagine not knowing what happened to a loved one like that.

Hi Donnie & Crew, you guys are amazing helping with the many unsolved mysteries of missing loved ones. About this case with Bubba missing,since he was at a party he possible was drinking & driving he could have went over a cliff along wooded areas and his truck & remains can't be seen from above.
