After visiting downtown Bellingham I came across some homeless folks and decided to learn more about this. I was surprised about a homeless encampment behind Winco Foods. I never suspected it whenever we shop there. It's sad how folks end up like this because of affordability, mental health or addiction issues. I wish all the homeless have shelter and have their lives turned around.

To this day they will destroy their tents and take everything they own regardless if it's sentimental items or not. I've seen them rip people out of motorhomes nice motorhomes that run. Telling them they got 5 mins to grab their items or go to jail and then tow their home. Completely unconstitutional. In humane. Totally illegal. Put more people. On the streets. Some camps I understand cause they trash places but not everyone is like that. 😢😢😢😢

just post them and leave instead of using your police to harass them before they ever leave

This video is basically calling people who are homeless “dirty” and “scary”. That woman goes in and takes everything from people who barely have anything. She’s taking things from that keep them warm and clean and safe. There’s a reason they put a woman in this video: trying to put a soft and nurturing face on brutal, cruel invasion and seizure. How are these hurting anyone, except their aesthetic sensitives. That woman should be ashamed. She has no heart, no pity for the tears, no pity for the suffering. She smiled so self-satisfactorily when she said, “and then we do all over again the next day”. They care more the parks’ beauty than the human suffering. Give these people their own shelter, or leave them alone; stop taking the last bit they have. We care more about our house values and tourist industry than our own citizens. We’re not fooling anyone. Bellingham is a supposed to be a liberal city, but it’s only liberal for the people who rake in money. We give billions of dollars to bomb countries around the world, but we can’t take care of our own. We’re making people homeless around the world, because we want their resources.

Seth Sternin 👍 I like your outlook but I can almost bet you probably never in your life invited a homeless person to share a meal with you.

Reality is, that just because a person has little does not mean they need to leave their garbage and worse all over the place. The vast majority are addicts with mental health issues, not people who are too poor to pay rent, but still work or make efforts to support themselves. Even with shelters, the Downtown Public Library has been taken over, as a homeless resource, forcing those who are housed to go elsewhere.

Why does Bellingham attract so many homeless? Sad for the residence, not the homeless. Too bad they can't get them out of what looks to be a beautiful city. Going to look up crime, but I bet it's higher than the state and national average.

Mr Bjj 101 you feel sorry for the residents, but not the homeless? Are not the homeless residing there, too? Who deserves pity, the people who are doing fine, or the people who are not? The homeless are destroying the beauty of Bellingham? I think cold hearts are pure ugliness.

Yourname Here are you saying that people who are homeless are dangerous? That’s a fine leap in logic. I argue that humans i general are dangerous. Most violence and abuse happens in the home and are done by family and friends. It often doesn’t go reported. Cops are notoriously violent in the home, yet we look to them to keep order. Vilifying immigrants are an easy excuse for people who find themselves needing to blame someone for society’s ills. Easy pickins’. I don’t trust the Democratic Party, either. We’ve given them chance after chance to fix shit, and they turn out to be just liars and money grubbers. Time for real change. Everyone deserves shelter, food and water, and a job that pays enough to provide those basic needs. Anyone who thinks that some people don’t deserve that is showing their dark side of human nature, nothing less.

We have a lot of homeless people partly because if high home values and partly because we treat them better than people around us so homeless people come to live here. Not saying we treat them well, but we treat them better than people around us.

Exactly! Bad choices bring negative results, good choices bring positive results. Totally sickening that people are destroying our country from the inside out. This Compliance Officer is working in a respectful manner, not an easy job!

I've worked with people in kitchens, that lived on the streets- damage deposits, pre rents & rent per se is prohibitive for many people. Also they've closed the mental hospitals...

Clayton Snider, your regard for the environment is commendable. BUT, you seem to care more about plants than human beings. You ought to stop wasting your breath on how its all bad for plants, the water ect. and speak out about how these HUMAN beings are suffering. Your lack of empathy makes YOU inhuman! I wish they would have never allowed you to speak on this video. You did not even mention the human suffering, only the suffering of the trees that died. You anger me and make me ill !

Suicide is an option for these scumbags!!! Look at all the trash and literal shit and piss everywhere. Needles and shit. Lock em up I say they Wong be homeless in prison. They'll have bubba to keep em warm at night!!

I'm homeless. No fault of my own. I don't leave garbage, needles ECT. Not all homeless people are pieces of shit. As for you saying they all ought to commit suicide is a cruel thing to say. I went three days with out eating and I was losing hope everyday. I said my goodbyes to my family and friends. It's no joke to be homeless. I've seen homeless camps and yes some (most) of them do leave trash around. Some of them are not good people. I was almost ganged raped on the second night there. I left that night and never returned. I've had so many bad and scary things happen to me. So do you think by me being a homeless person I need to go to prison or kill myself?

This is a drug abuse problem. Some of these people do not want housing & help.

At the end of the day, good decisions bring good outcomes, the reverse is also true! Part of being a responsible adult is making good choices. Granted, most of us have experienced challenges of one sort of another in our lives, and have worked hard to overcome them. Too many have no sense of pride, or self-respect. Some are even proud to refuse to work. Many of us have worked multiple jobs, over 60 hrs a week, and done whatever it takes to put food on the table, pay our bills and support our families. We did not sit around waiting for handouts! Giving without expectation of effort made to improve one's situation doesn't not do anything to instill a sense of dignity, or encourage anyone to move forward to better their situation. Resuscitating those who OD on a continuous basis, just delays the inevitable, and drains community funds. Being kind and having empathy is one thing. Having self-respect and concern for nature and the environement needs to be a major priority. Stop enabling people to 'fall through the cracks', when they do not need to. There is no excuse for leaving filth everywhere, none! Any, 'Nanny State' is doomed to failure! If people want /need free housing they need to be willing to go to treatment, clean up their lives and contribute to society. End of story!
