You don't need anything fancy to make a very cheap, well balanced, skin friendly, multi purpose cold process soap!
Beef tallow is an extremely well balanced fat with excellent properties for soap making.

I just made my first beef tallow balm and had to mix it whith some castor oil to make it more spreadable. I'm also experimenting the carnivore diet and cook whith a beef tallow every day. making a soap is my next step, thanks for your video from spain.

Hi Helen. Thanks for this video. I'm glad you went to the trouble to make your own tallow and then make soap from it. Such a "grass roots" thing to do. Well done. I've added a small percentage of schmaltz (rendered chicken fat) to my soaps in the past. It makes a lovely bubbly smooth bar. How typical that the soap misbehaved when you were recording it. Thanks again. (Oh and I came over here from your comment on Dawn Organics latest upload.) Have fun.

Thank you so much for your kind comment! Have you ever seen how the women in Northen Ghana make their shea butter? Too wonderful! I love to know how things are made or learn how to make it myself. I've never heard the word "schmaltz" before. Love it!

I was one who thought making soap with animal fats was icky for years! Until my mom gave me a block of lard and i didn't know what to do with it so i made a loaf of soap with it and it's now my favorite formula 🤷🏼‍♀️ im hoping the people in my community dont have an issue with it

When people try it, a lot of them are so surprised that they change their minds! These soaps last longer than plant oil based soaps. And there is so much controversy around palm oil anyway... I am glad you tried it!

You are very kind. Thank you. I love sheep tallow. But I clean it three times... it does have a bit of an awkward smell. It is more cleansing than beef. Fantastic for laundry.

@sunbirdmom
@sunbirdmom Жыл бұрын
I add some other oils to create a "softer" soap. You can play around with other oils. Olive oil and sunflower oil will create a softer soap. But then your soap will not last that long either😁

Hi Alma! I have a 3-tier wire trolley which I bought very cheaply. I just put them on the trolley for a few months. It allows air flow from the bottom and the top. I usually just wrap them in brown paper when I want to store them or give them away. I hope you know what I'm talking about?

My 100% Beef Tallow soap is very hard and doesn't dissolve and doesn't lather at all. Can you help?
@sunbirdmom
@sunbirdmom 5 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for reaching out. This soap IS very hard and lasts longer than a lot of other soap. If your caustic soda was not clumped up or old, and your measurements were correct when you made it, can it be that it is just different than what you are used to? Mine always lather. But the mineral composition of your water can also impact it. You can consider replacing 10% of the tallow with coconut oil for better lather. Just use a lye calculator to determine your NaOH amount needed. Was this helpful?

For coconut oil you are going to need a different amount of water and lye! Every oil has a unique structure. Try using a lye calculator (soapee works great!) and punch in the amount of coconut oil that you want to use. Will it be for clothes/ dish washing?100% Coconut oil soap for personal hygiene is too cleansing unless you superfat it to about 20%. But it will work great for clothes and dishes.

How do u control smell? can we prepare soap base from and sell for commercial @ small scale?
@sunbirdmom

Remember, the cleaner the tallow becomes, the less you smell it when the soap is finished. Mine is usually odourless. Does that answer your question? You can definitely sell this soap! I am not sure what you mean by "soap base". Maybe explain...?

But doesn't just stick to your hands? Its so annoying. I haven't tried it as a soap but I've eaten meat but then I have to wash it off my hands/mouth so it gets hard to wash off that fat. Is it the same when you use it as a soap?

@@sunbirdmom , it's a problem to find any kind of animal fat. I make soap from coconut oil and olive oil. But I have very dry skin. I think, that only soap from animal fat will be good for me. And I also want to make tallow balm. Hope to find tallow))).
@sunbirdmom
@sunbirdmom 5 ай бұрын
@yuliaandronova4620 I'm so sorry... You don't use too much coconut oil, do you? Coconut oil makes beautiful bubbles, but it can strip the oils from your skin easily. I never add more than 5% coconut oil when I make soap for my own use. My skin becomes dry quickly too. Have you considered trying out other plant oil combinations in stead? Definitely superfat your soap, don't go over 5% with coconut oil and if you can get hold of palm oil/palm kernel oil, you can add that too for hardness.
