Welcome! We figured a little different video that has been requested and to mix things up and explain a few things. Many people complain or say old tractors start hard and specifically in the winter and we argue that is simply not true if they are tuned and adjusted right and in good condition. Also another argument that is often had is that you have to switch your oil weight in the winter to thinner oil for starting and again in most situations and climates and in most situations it is not necessary. We will also give you tips and pointers to make cold starting easier and less harmful to any equipment. We will still continue to do the videos we have been doing but also plan on mixing it up a bit and doing some other types of videos. I did not know Perkins made a small engine The only ones i have seen are in big Masseys Learn something new everyday Thank you !

Yes they made lots of 3 and 4 cylinder engines as well as the inline 6 and V8s/ Good engines have some in skid steers and farm tractors. Thanks for watching and the comment!

Living in WNY and being an engineer too OIL type and viscosity mean a lot to me as I sue my GT's year round. For me, like a lot of our fellow Case/Ingersoll enthusiasts that have hydraulic drive and controls oils are important too for year round maximum available torque to our implements, such as mower decks, tillers, and yes snow casters too. I run GT's with both Onan and B&S engines. I only run Synthetic oils! Even though they are slightly more expensive if you buy from a local store I buy mine online and pay less than conventional oils (less than $22 US a gallon!). Ryan, great video, we need more! Ray

Agree Ray, syns are best hands down and our machines do best with heavier oils with the specif hydraulic system as well as the engines do best with heavier oil. Vanguard recommends syn 15 50 oil in their engines for heavy use, well to me that means its best for any use lol. The Onans really like the 20 50, 5 40 or 15 40 5-50. We use same in the Kohlers as well. If you want a top quality oil check out Schaeffers we have links in the description its top stuff, not cheap but there is a difference with their stuff. I put an outboard motor primer bulb on fuel line before pump and prime motors . Often carb is dry and you have to crank way to long . Mine start instantly now . Have this on many machines gas diesel alike . I have a 226 Case IR hydro . Nice channel Thank you

I can see what you are saying about the oil in the engine. BUT you were running engines with pressurized oil systems. With the old splash oil systems the thicker oil is going to be like honey and not splash very well till it gets warm and damage/wear to the engine is likely. On the cold start and warm up I do as you do, but after the 5 minutes I shift the axle to neutral and eez the travel lever to either full forward or full reverse and let it run another 5+ minutes to get more oil and the drive motor warmed up a bit. BUT being in MN I often need to be out there when it is -10f to -15f outside. And I also stick with Shell 15w-40 year round in the hydraulics.

Good to see you back again bud! Ww run the heavy oil in the splash as well with no issues. Again once you get in extremely cold them yes it's a different story. But on the flip side the thicker oil I feel sticks and clings much better and longer and offers better start up protection. Truth be told at low rpm engine do not need very much oil coating or pressure to be ok that why warm up is key and at lower rpm. We did a video with some pretty good visuals with different oil weights in I think it was -10 the oil Sat out over night. 15 40 is a nice weight and u an very happy how 5 40 performs as well. Also yes on very cold days we do put the rears in neutral and do the sane to speed up warm up. On loaders a bit more of a pain lol.
