My brother has made a hike from eastern turkey to switzerland. The biggest problem was in Romania, Bulgaria and on the Balkan wild dog pack. In this case, the bushman-knife is a blessing.

Great idea with the screw eye. I bring a CS shovel at times. It's okay as a chopper, but I would not look to it as my main go to for wood processing. I bought it for its versatility for woods and as a less lethal self defense tool while deployed in its sheath in certain areas.. IA Woodsman sold me on it. I've been rockin a CS Kukri machete in the mountains of Virginia. My hatchet stays home most of the year. The reviews on the CS Kukri machete's chopping capability was no lie. Watching your machete mods helped me customize mine. I did do two things different: I wrapped the handle for some cushion and put a back of the hand lanyard loop on it for grasp security and for easy wrist flicking on light brush or grass. I have thought about a bushman. I have sub'd long time ago. Love your vids and system of doing things. Glad to see you win Alone. Thanks a lot brother. Maranatha.

Last time I went camping I shot a water moccasin to death. I also have a bushman. My preferred knife setup is a cold steel kukri and a mora. I like how lightweight the mora is. I keep it in my hammock when I sleep. ... just in case. And you just never know when you will run into a phyco crazed animal. So I always carry a weapon when adventuring into the middle of nowhere. I enjoy hunting squirll with my Ruger 10/22. But with a 25 round magazine it's a versitile survival tool.

I owned 2 .38 revolvers when I lived there but there was no legal way to carry in the bush. Brazilian police can stop and search your vehicle without probable cause so it isn't an easy thing to transport a firearm.

Hey your video came up in my feed again and I had to watch it, again. 👍🏻👍🏻 I had forgotten that CS made a Mini Bushman. I’ve had a Bushman for over 20 years. Got the Bushman Bowie too. I also have the Condor Matagi and the Mini Matagi. The mini is on a canteen/scout kit and may be the sharpest knife I own 😉 The full size Matagi is in my main go-to pack, and the Bushman is in Mumma Bear’s pack. All outstanding pieces of kit!

Great video thanks. I agree on the points you made in this video good stuff. I will use this gaurd idea when my new bushman blade arrives. Was going to rap the handle and try to shape it so it is not to round and was trying to figure out a finger guard and like you method. Was definitely going to make a good walking stick that can be used for the spear shaft and will now make it little longer than plan as the length suggestions are good. Having a low priced knife that you do not have to worry about being stolen from your vehicle and will be usable and on hand for emergencies is awesome. Love cold steel for the designs, quality for the price and durability.

excellent video. Very true. The spear is an instinctual weapon for man. It is how we carved our place out of the wild. I don't know if you've ever seen that movie The Grey. But if you have, don't you think that the knife if you would've liked to have had most was the cold stone Bushman? Outside of a gun, the spear is probably the most effective defensive weapon man can use against a Predator

Cold Steel Bushman destruction test, pt. 1: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mKmfldJk2-Dej3k.html I was always surprised to the the Chris Reeves' knives fail early. The inexpensive Bushman just kept going and going.

I try not to get hung up on "which knife". I carry the Bushman when I want a spear around. As for kits as long as Rule #9 (Always have a knife) is being followed you can make it work. The Recon Scout is a good knife from what I hear but I don't have any experience with it personally.

Made mine into a spear using an Ash wood rake handle with metal ferrule. Leather wrapped three sections of the shaft using rawhide strips then drilled the factory hole in the knife's handle through to the other side and put in an Allen bolt and Nyloc nut. Just added a 50% double edge last night to the back of the blade for better penetration. I've taken out a few opossums in the back yard; spear them to the ground and remove their heads with a Cold Steel San Mai Kukri.

That's how I've carried my condor mini matagi in hog country in Oklahoma, bear country in the Sierra Nevadas and in jaguar country in the Guyanese Amazon. Always feel a bit safer with it as a spear.

I've had a bushman for years. I haven't carried it in quite some time. I replaced it with a recon scout. I'm thinking about about adding it to one of my kits to cut down on swapping items back and fourth. I have me edc that goes in my truck and doubles as a get home bag. Then I have my lite duty wilderness kit (maxpedition sabercat) just wondering which knife you would use in which kit

Would be more interesting if you showed how the blade performs and how you use it compared to a knife or other tool. Previous to your participation in the TV show, your videos seemed to focus on machete modifications and the techniques you learned in your time, working as a missionary abroad and often outdoors.

Hi Colhane, when you said "wolves", were you referring to Aguará Guazú? There are no wolves in South America, so you probably meant Aguará. They are nearly extinct and as far as I know there are no records of them attacking people. On the other hand pumas do attack people, specially children, so a spear is a great idea. Great video BTW.

@@maxmustermann9216 - Mountain Lion are certainly known to hunt and attack humans. And they rarely leave evidence of it. They are very silent. Children often completely disappear, even in the company of adults, when in long grass.
