Cold Tough Spring - BLUEFISH TOPWATER BITE - Fishing for NYC Bluefish. Tough bites are good bite. You have a bite that is good. Tough is good so long you can handle tough. Bit chilly but alright. Spring cloud cover drizzle dampness always get you after the first few warm day of spring. Everyone had a few blues or more. Top water seems to draw some good strikes. Missed a few mice blowups between makes all the blue fishing that much more fun.

Thanks! Thats the DRIP No. 4000, the model below the WETDRIP which sports bearings and there is a DRIPXXXWET that is bail less. I prefer bushing on spinning gear. Topic for another day. Talking to manufacturers now on it, one of a kind. Probably do well on the market, affordable, 100% durable, SW proof, easily obtainable parts and comes in kitty kit form with a sexy box so swapping parts is easy and a toy for the wife if your going to be at the fishing lodge for a few days. Won't see another like it at the moment. Van stall used the Mitchell 310 design, this is a Penn Silverado design, well it once was 🤣😅🤣😅

That's weird, I just cracked open my second beer of the night! But I did have a glass of wine beforehand. Some believe otherwise. Your reality is your own. Nice blues Jerry. I have to make my way back down to the bay this week. Hit the surf as well. The striper run on the Hudson this year was fantastic. Stripers over 40” were common. I had two myself. Take care my friend.

I'm glad to see you are on some nice fish. i was in avalon fished 2 days threw everything at them, and all I got were horseshoe crabs they feel just like a fluke when they first bite. now recharging my gulp. great video .

The horshoe crabs will give a battle! Often its tide dependent

I put inline hooks on my plugs years back. You don't really miss bites and dehooking less scary.

Yup also just crush the barbs on all hooks. They come out so easily with a flick. And no lost fish if you maintain pressure.

Got a bunch of stripers in my area most mid to high 20s with a fair amount of mid 30” fish mixed in as well, even got my first keeper fluke of the year at 21” at the end of last week but have yet to see any signs of blues where I fish, I know there not to far away as I’m hearing from plenty of people that they’re around, i just haven’t had the pleasure of running into them yet, soon enough tho, it always seems to really take off and get consistent in the couple of weeks following Mother’s Day, tight lines and good luck out there

Good job and the fluke to boot well dones! Been a nice blue bite almost bassy spread and some work for them but around. Seems to be roaming pods that are somewhat tight with more pods one day to next but good fishing fishing I like that. From my own gatherings from my own eyes seem the fishing (south shore) came center and split east and west but I am sure its far more diverse then that

Jerry would you agree that Blues hit from the back? In other words they usually attack prey from behind and get that rear hook. Opposed to the Stripers which attack the front and usually get hooked on that front hook?

I would say yes most the time for sure. Kinda like a pack of wolfs. I would say striper do the same when schooling as they are racing because they are competing with each other. While the big big lone striper will ambush. The big lone bluefish will torpedo in what ever direction it finds the closest path, grab the bunker, shake its head, and dart to the nest

On another topic. Full Moon next week. But I haven't done so well on those real high tides, especially in that spot! Any observations on fishing that beach/bay spot in Moon Tides? Thanks again for the years of fun fish porn lol!

Much welcome love it! I will either hit the low or up on the rocks on the high but same observation as you. Moons are always funny, they kind shuffle the pieces and anythings always possible.
