Camping gear can be really expensive, hard to set up, and poor quality. This tent is none of those things. It's affordable, extremely easy to set up, and after nearly 100 nights camping in it it has held up really well. It's certainly not perfect but in my opinion, it is a great value for money.

this is my fall into winter tent.Coleman is one of the only solid roof instant tents. makes it better holding heat in colder weather. the mesh roof instant tents are awesome for warmer weather and star gazing though...some mods ive done is to add a tarp under as a footprint and cheap canvas painters tarp to the inside floor.tied some short length bright colored paracord to all the zipper pulls to see the darn things. had some wet out issues so i brushed on and water proofed every inch of the outside and all seams inside of the tent including the whole window panels while zipped down from the inside. did the outside of the rainfly also. found a waterproofing mixture found online using 2 quarts odorless mineral spirits and whole tube of 100% clear silicone shaken up in a dolllar store plastic container and a 2 inch paint brush. takes about an hour but for me worth it.although the walls on this tent are thicker than most instatnt tents mine still will drip and leak eventually wetting out and leak through the walls in heavy rain especially blowing sideways.last step is to rig a big silver harbo freight tarp over the top as the fly doesnt cover the windows. now i can sleep during a rain. lol...

Great insights. We do not get tons of rain in Utah but I’m not surprised you have had issues. The fly only comes down so far so any water at an angle for extended periods of time could cause issues. Sounds like you have a good remedy!

Great long term Review. I just got an Ozark Trail instant tent the other day and love how fast it is to setup. I had the Coleman instant tent in the past and we used it for years. They are definitely hard to fit back into the bag. I am hoping the Ozark Trail lasts as long as the Coleman did. The setup is the same as the Coleman. Have a wonderful day!!!😊

Curios to see how you like the Ozark. I’d like to test an Oz tent or other “high” quality tents to see if they are worth it. Just have a hard time pulling the trigger on something that does the same thing and costs 5 times a much .

Hey, I have the same tent. If your biggest issue with it is the packed size, let me tell you (you probably know tho), it is not that hard to put it in its original bag, I got 2 straps to compact it a little before putting it into the bag and then it just fits. And the bag it is long but it doesn’t need to be that huge and bulky. What I would love from this tent is a better rain fly , and a kind that can add some little porch roofing on top of the door area

I like your thoughts. If it rained much in Utah I think I would also find it lacking.

@@BackroadExploration I built what is called a foamie a few years ago. People laughed at us and said a foam trailer would never last. Been beating on it in the back county for nearly 5 years now. Still going strong. The original build came in at 372lbs. I built it up a bit for off road use so now it is near 500lbs. Still nice and light for pulling. I can set up/break down camp in 5 minutes. It Keeps me 15-20 degrees warmer inside without a heater. Does not blow around and make flappy noises. Keeps my stuff and me nice and dry. No putting away a wet tent in the rain. Yes, hard to go back to a tent.

@@BackroadExploration I have another channel where I was explaining how to build a foamie. Half way through the build videos I had a hard drive failure and lost the rest of the video. I was going to build another and start with that one where I left off with that one. Not sure when or ever I will get a chance at this point. You can copy and paste "Trailer #2 Build Video part 1" and "Trailer #2 Build Video part 2" in the youtube search. It should bring up quick videos of the build. If interested you can watch other videos there. I have wanted to do a walk around with it for my Overlanding channel. Just have not found the time to do it yet. Maybe soon.

This is going to be my first tent ever ! It’s just 3 of us, but I do want my kids to be able to grow into it as they get even older . And I want to not worry about not having enough space for our things . Definitely gonna have to throw it onto the top of the roof rack though. Thank you for the great review!

One thing I failed to mention is the stakes that come with it are pretty flimsy. Spend $10-15 bucks and get some thicker sturdier stakes.

used a larger size a few years back, agree 100% with what you are saying from an easy set-up standpoint but the rain definitely cramped our style so looking for a way to make it a bit more weatherproof! Thanks for the review and ideas!

When you put a tarp under your tent you dont let it hang out further than the edges of your tent, if you do and it rains water will run down your tent onto the tarp and then go under your tent, always fold up the edges of the tarp so its just under the edge of your tent as to not allow water to land on it!🍻

Thanks for the review! I’m in mostly the same boat that you are so it’s really cool to see reviews like this Have you ever looked at using an impact driver and long (8in) lag screws instead of stakes? I’ve found this has sped up my tent setup/takedown time a decent amount

I have seen people do that. I like the idea it’s just one more thing to bring and space is tight in our setup. But it’s a great idea.

I saw on some other reviews that the bag it comes in has a zipper that can expand on the bottom. By unzipping. Mine did not have that so it might fit better. But this is the bag I use: amzn.to/4ejoCOq

I'm thinking about getting this tent to take on multi-day canoe trips.. I've always used lightweight A-frame tents but my knees can no longer take crawling into them.. I just don't know how well this tent will fit in the canoe...
@BackroadExploration

It will fit into your canoe. But it will take up a ton of space. I don’t think it’s a good fit for that use.

I bought my coleman 6 person Instant setup tent for $79.00 at the ollie's department store here in nacogdoches texas. Talk about an awesome good deal! When i saw the retail price on the bottom of that price sticker, it was $199.99! I nearly choked on my tea after seeing that! Usually these kind of tents are pretty expensive. This monster size tent is just the right size for me! Ofcourse i'm just one guy. So yeah, i got plenty of room! 👍😎🏕🎉🎉🎉

Hey Jared, what's the closest temp you'd use this temp and how does it hold up in the wind?
@BackroadExploration
@BackroadExploration 2 ай бұрын
It’s tall so it catches a lot of wind. But its poles are very sturdy. It will flap like crazy but if you stake it down it will be fine. I’ve had to tie it to the vehicle and trees when really windy so that it did not blow away but it didn’t bend or break. As far as cold goes it’s not canvas like a springbar so not really a ton of insulation. But I really just rely on sleeping bags for temperature issues. I’ve slept it in at 0 degrees but the tent did not add any extra warmth.
