COLEMAN MACH AC Fan Motor Replacement and Maintenance Cleaning

Our Coleman Mach AC unit has been giving us trouble for the past few months. It was beginning to make weird noises and was having trouble turning the fans. After a few times of trying to lube up the motor shafts it finally seized. We then went a month with only using the front AC as we weere in the mountains and had cooler temps. Finally on our way to Yosemite we stopped at a local RV dealer and ordered a new fan motor.
Install was not that bad and it became a big project as I decided to do a full maintenance cleaning of the ac unit while I had it apart.

Ended up cutting the shaft in half with a hacksaw and using a mounted vise grip along with a hammer and screwdriver to hammer out the metal piece still stuck in the fan. Thanks for the video!

I just finished my dis-assembly of the AC unit to change the frozen motor. Well ... I think I probably took as long as you did as I couldn't get the fan off and had to dis-assemble the fan shroud to give me the room I needed. For others doing this motor replacement, be VERY careful moving the motor back and forth, trying to position it to come free of the sheet metal ... it's easy to damage the fins on the condenser ... don't ask me how I know this? Anyway, thanks for the video ... very helpful!

That what I think is wrong with mind it's 3 years old Coleman mach 15 it's run good but make that noise and the fan was running it's wobbly and that's probably bearing . So I going to order one fan motor

Im working on 2 units on my rv. Same make and model. Im curious if the condensing fan pushes air through the condenser or pulls it. Mine pulls the air which doesnt make sense because all the warm air is going by the already hot compressor. I think my overload kicked on once so im trying to keep this old compressor cool.

Hey man so I just did this same replacement except for the capacitor, and before my motor went bad everything worked great. But now my compressor will only turn on for a single minute and then shut off for almost a half an hour and on one minute then off again. Ill add it was 90 degrees out. But before the motor went bad it worked perfectly in 93 degrees... Any ideas as to why the compressor might be acting up? Im going to replace the start capacitor but would this have anything to do with the compressor??

The squirrel cage fan is designed to be missing a plastic fan piece. It is used to balance the fan.

No it's not! The reason half a blade is missing is so you can access the Allen screw on the shaft with a long Allen wrench... don't post if you don't know what your talking about.

The missing fan blade on the squirrel cage blower is so you can access the mounting screw to remove the fan if you only have a straight alan wrench if you have an l shape alan you don't use the access hole notice how it's lined up where you can see the screw head? And to ease removal of motor take the shroud of the condenser fan blades off and you won't hit the cond coils fins! And my Coleman mach came with ball bearings you can upgrade to that type drill a hole and lube them yearly and get more life from them? Just FYI to save money!

The issue with these motors is they use sleeve bearings which uses a wick material. Just not practical in hot places where AC needs to run continuously. If you can find a replacement motor with actual sealed bearings, a way better choice for longevity.
