Today I answer a few common questions I get about collagen on a plant based diet and share with you how to improve your own collagen production. Should we supplement? Do any plants contain it? What foods boost our production?
Let me know your thoughts below! Are there any collagen boosting foods I forgot? Have you ever tried any collagen supplements? Did they do anything?
Thanks for watching.

I appreciate the message at then end. I feel like so many people are obsessed with how to not age they forget to live. Not all individuals have the opportunity to live a long enough to age. Aging in itself is a privilege society take for granted.

Lots of practical information about vegan collagen needs here, also enjoyed your end comments about age. I guess the acceptance of aging, and the reality of being part of a natural life cycle on this planet are easier to accept if that aging is healthy and pleasant. Great topic.

At the supermarket today, looking at the hemp hearts section, a guy randomly asked is is worth eating them, answer was of course as well as flax and chia seens. Ended up talking for a good half hour about the benefits of a WFPB diet. His eyes were wide open and very keen to learn more. Was able to share a lot about what I had leant from watching your channel. I told him to go watch more of your channel. Since going vegan a few years ago I feel I actually look younger than before. I've even had non vegan family members tell me I'm looking better with age (of course they won't believe it's my diet that does it) you absolutely don't need all those crazy supplements and serums just a good balance of whole plant foods in your diet works wonders!
@IndigoRoses7
@IndigoRoses7 3 жыл бұрын
That phase will end, unfortunately. There are no sources of vegan collagen. Theres only things that boost the collagen already in your body. All the vegan collagen supplements are purely a cash grab. I was vegan for over 4 years, and my skin suffered tremendously. It's taken over a year of animal collagen to reverse what happened to my skin.
@alyciamarriott9506
@alyciamarriott9506 3 жыл бұрын
@@IndigoRoses7 thanks for your comment and Im sorry that happened to you but our bodies produce their own collagen so it doesn't bother me that there are no ingestible vegan sources. What we eat is also not the only thing that impacts our skin either so and for me this was just a happy accident... being plant based is more than skin deep and there are so many more reasons to eat this way than that. I would never go back if you payed me.

Having worked in a natural health foods store for the last 6 years I've seen a huge increase in the number of supplements and food products containing collagen (oatmeal with added collagen...no thanks) as well as the number of people willing to spend extra money on said supplements and specialty foods. Its great to hear that all the foods I've been eating every day since transitioning to a plant based lifestyle 5 years ago have been helping my body naturally produce collagen this whole time. Plants for the win! Thanks for another great informational video Derek!

Thanks for adding the end bit about ageing and still being beautiful even with wrinkles. As a woman I am bombarded with the young looking equals beautiful stuff everywhere. Especially now I am in my 30s. I get asked if I will do botox when I am older or if I will dye my hair when I get a grey hair (I have never dyed it). It is so weird to me that we want to keep looking younger when I think there is great power in embracing age and the (usually) wisdom that comes with it.

This was awesome to see! I have a genetic-disorder where I don't make Collagen properly. It leads to joint pain. So much so, I was on a prescription drug that I had to take 4 times a day to help prevent those pain signals. A couple years ago (thanks to my daughter on a high school dare to follow a plant-based diet and me being a supportive father). I ultimately learned I was not getting the nutrition I needed by leaving plants out of my diet. Over time, plants won out and I am no longer on the prescription drug. I still have pain issues but not to the point I need prescription medicine. In fact, I take less OTC drugs now for pain then before I needed the prescription drug. I just need the foods you mentioned in this video.

You are right, I should have mentioned that. There is some interesting info about vitamin c retention though, so it was a bit convoluted and I was just trying to keep the video short. Cooking method, temp and time all seem to have an effect on C status. Microwaving is actually the best way to preserve vitamin c and retains almost all of it. Go figure, the ol nuke box is the best. Haha. But you are right, boiling get's rid of almost all of it.
