In her final regular season home game, Iowa Hawkeyes phenom Caitlin Clark broke the NCAA points record during a free throw, passing "Pistol Pete" Maravich to become the Division I all-time scoring leader - a record that stood for more than 50 years. NBC’s Jesse Kirsch reports for TODAY.

Awesome ball player for women's college basketball. She's a very humble young lady. What she's done for women's college basketball is amazing. I thought Paige the young lady from UConn was going to be like that but unfortunately the young lady had two serious knee injuries. There is a young lady who's a freshman at USC named Juju Watkins who's coming just in time since this is Clark's last year.

What Maravich did was more difficult because of the circumstances, however, it shouldn’t take away from Clark’s record. She was also playing against females, but that shouldn’t downplay anything because she herself is female. What Maravich did is still untouchable, but Caitlin Clark is a great player

Caitlin is a generational talent... men or women. I am a huge fan. Pete Maravich scored 44 points a game without the 3 point shot. His total came in 3 years because freshmen weren't allowed to play on the varsity. He averaged 44 points a game... but it was his passing that made him unique.

@@sixfootbear ... she is great. Awesome... but she took four years to do it. Pete had 3 because of the freshman rule. 44 points a game. No one has passed the ball 'like' him. Caitlin comes close. She could play on most men's teams. I am a HUGE fan.

I’m hearing she’s not getting the accolades she deserves because her team hasn’t gotten as far as it could. Peyton manning had the same problem as he only got two Super Bowl rings compared with five or so Brady has. But it’s impossible or very difficult to compare the two because the chemistry within an organization is so complex between personalities injuries and things generically out of control. The whole objective is to provide entertainment and sales. Some people have the knack of making everyone around them better. Including the opposition and larger crowds. She’ll always have that.

No she didn’t. Pete had no 3 point line and he only played 3 years. Just to make it a closer apples to apples…let’s tally up Pete’s shots that were behind the arc as threes and see where she stands.

@ MichaelAdams8004 they're not going to talk about that. She scored more points than Lynette Woodard. They both played in the AIAW before the NCAA took over. The other excuse they will use is because she didn't play for a Division 1 University. Lastly she scored 4,061pts and Caitlin Clark will need to score another 400 points to break her record. Since that's out of her reach they're not going to mention Pearl Moore as the all-time scoring leader. Caitlin Clark broke the NCAA record but not the all-time scoring record. That belongs to Pearl Moore.

Look, she broke the scoring record of Pete Maravich. However, in his time at LSU, there was no 3-point shot. No doubt had there been a 3 point shot then, Maravich would be virtually untouchable-he could shoot from any range. Clark being female in this age of heightened excitement of triumphant feminism and the derogatory put down of males. Gloating is premature.
