Hey Huskie fans I am from Arkansas and I remember wishing this team could play Miami but I still think this team would've won. Did ya'll know that lots of Arkansas folks moved up to Washington in the 30's-50's to find jobs and stayed? They were called Arky's and Okie's. Many of their kids and grandkids and great-grands are all over the state because of this. Merele Haggard even wrote a song about the Okie's! Oh we'll glad to see you get the victory the other night against Arizona. Go Hogs!

Imagine being a student a UW at that time and getting the opportunity to watch a team go to 3 consecutive Rose Bowls and win the National Championship. That was me. My father played for UW Baseball and my daughter is a 3rd Generation Husky. Go Dawgs.

Proud Husky, class of '74. The first game I ever saw in Husky Stadium was against Michigan State. Sunny Sixkiller was our Quarterback and Rob Weller was the Yell-Team leader. We won and it was friggin' magical. Love my Dawgs!

@ChrisWilliams-gw6qm 2001 Miami was the most talented college football team ever. The 1991 Washington team was the most dominant team I've ever seen. They arguably had the greatest defense in the history of college football while also boasting the best offense in the country that year. They dominated both lines of scrimmage and had ludicrous speed at every position. They also had, in my humble opinion, the greatest college football player I've ever seen, Steve Emtman. A Heisman Trophy finalist playing as an interior defensive lineman.

@@mikeabel7577 yet Miami had the number 1 scoring defense that year plus 6 furure NFL Pro Bowlers on that defense. Washington beat Nebraska that year 36-21 Miami beat Nebraska 22-0. Would have LOVED to watch that matchup. Would have been a battle.

@mikeabel7577 but As far as 2001 Miami they beat teams by an average of 35 points per game 1991 Washington won by 30 per game. So dominance is still 2001 Miami.

My favorite college football team of all time, feel blessed to this day I saw them play in person 3 times that year. At the opener @Stanford , @Cal , and the Rose Bowl.

SAN FERNANDO isn't that 4 games? Opener, Stanford, cal, rose bowl? I went to the opener and watched every minute of every other game on tv.... Amazing team and easily top 3 of all time. Top 2 defense ever and best defensive front 7 of all time, along with one of the best o-lines ever too...

Taylor Moore yea Washington's defense would have manhandled Miami that year without a doubt... Gino went on to win the Heisman later but couldn't even last a couple years as a backup in the NFL because he couldn't get out of his own way against good front 7's, which the Huskies had the best front 7 of all time... That was the strongest part of that entire team led by Emtman and Hoffman.

@@anthonycasper6378 slow secondary? Guess you were not there that year to see. Washington was built on its secondary then which started it all. Really? If the Huskies had a slow secondary why did Washington stack the line of Scrimmage? And you only mention Defense also. Smh Man, as Washington's Offense was also top five that year. Overall Defense #1! And let me share this also......James pulled his Starter's in the Early third quarter repeatedly that Year. Cannot imagine the scores if He allowed the starter's to continue to play. And all you need to know not a coached Don James team in '94 and the result. IF James stayed on board would've been much worse for Miami and the 58 game home streak snapped. Glad you are a fan of the Canes.......but reality Miami would've been defeated by at least twenty or more that year. Washington played Nebraska in Lincoln that year. The Huskies had an inexperienced QB start as Brunell the Rose Bowl MVP the previous year was injured before the season even started. Osbourne is by far one of the greatest Coaches but Don James adjusted that day. Player's clamped down and executed. The result was a Nail in the Coffin for Cornhusker Football that Day. If later in the Year Nebraska would've been beaten much worse! To think Miami had a chance is crazy!

One of the 2 best defenses I have seen in watching CFB for about 33 years now. The only other one I'd compare 91 UW to is 1986 Oklahoma, who shut out 5 of 12 opponents and Arkansas only scored in garbage time of the 87 Orange Bowl. Of course 91 uw was unbeaten but even they may not have won in miami in 1986 (understanding that is impossible to do of course, 91 playing 86).

I was a University of Michigan student then and that was a very solid Michigan football team that Washington completely dominated -- i don't think it's possible to name a number one team of all time but i definitely think that UW squad was in the top 5 of all time and perhaps the best ever. Had they not played the majority of their games on West Coast time they would have gotten more of the recognition they genuinely deserved.

Being a Boston guy, i have always had the advantage of looking at college football objectively. Sure, i love BC Eagles football and Doug Flutie is a gem. I think without a doubt this was the best NCAAF team EVER. They destroyed everything in their path. They were dominant on both sides of the ball. They had a bunch of players go to NFL. I think they beat 91 U Hurricanes by ten.

The 1995 Nebraska team was my vote for greatest college team of all time, but this Husky team is a top 5 team for sure. One of college football's all time greatest defenses and Don James one of the greatest coaches also. To have his success at Washington at that time was incredible. Jack Lambert sings Coach James praises to this day.

Washington is definitely up there among the all-time greats. The irony is that Florida St. was #1 virtually the entire season and was heralded as the greatest team ever until the two late losses. Miami and Washington were both great teams and both deserved to be #1. Florida St. would have to wait two more years before their own championship...

Miami and Washington should have squared off that season, but this was before the BCS era. It would have been a tremendous defensive struggle. Hard to say who would have come out on top. Both teams were terrific. Washington had the better offense (slightly), and the defenses were very close. Could have been something like a Washington win, 17-16.

Hard to compare teams from different eras, but if you name the top ten all time, Washington would be high in it. I am a 65 year long football fan, specializing in the Huskies.

While the 1991 Washington Huskies football team was a great one, no doubt. To claim they were the greatest CFB of all time, well least just say, many CFB fans, coaches, media and sports writers would disagree. There were two ESPN Polls that were done LIVE. In an overwhelming vote, the GOAT CFB Team- 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers. That team was sick all around on talent. No one could stop Tommy Frazier and the option. The RB's were some of the best ever at NU, L. Phillips and Ahman Green. Frazier should have won the Heisman over Eddy George. The Husker's D was full of future NFL Talent. NU DESTROYED the #2 team at the time, the Florida Gators, 62-24 in the Fiesta Bowl and it wasn't even that close.

Ive been watching college football for 30 years and I can say this team is definitely one of the top5 I have seen. You have to be careful though about calling them the best of all time since they split the title with Miami that year plus some other teams like Miami 2001, Nebraska 1971 and 1995 and USC 1972 and 2004, Texas 2005. Just a personal fave of mine that nobody will ever bring up is Oklahoma of 1986 who shut out 5 of their 12 opponents and whose only loss was at Vinny T's canes.

Lord Xeen best front 7 of all time. No question about it.... So many sacks and tackle for loss, and Miami had Gino Toretta who couldn't get out of his own way, let alone Washington's rushers. I think they would have had a field day if they played because they only teams that had any success against Washington that year had QB's that could run...

Washington is damn good now. Not quite on the same level defensively or in the run game, but the passing attack is currently better. The game has changed so much since then though so it's hard to really compare. One thing is certain though, no team has ever or probably will ever have as good of a defensive front 7 as good as the 91 team...

I think calling the 91 huskies the greatest team of all time is a slight stretch. However, they are defiantly top 3 of all time. I believe that the 1995 Huskers and 1992 Penn State teams to be the other two. For the record, 91 Miami team was not even close to being as good as the Dawgs that year and should have never had to share the title with them.

I have been a Huskies fan for many decades and that was a great team. But the GOAT? I don't think so. The reason I don't think they are is simply because we were weak at the QB and WR spots. Our QBs were good, but not great, Brunell the better of the two, Hobert was too inconsistent. The WR were also good, but not great, Mario Bailey probably the best of the bunch followed by Curtis Gaspard. At least they were the most consistent. Bailey made some spectacular catches, but he also dropped a lot of balls, so did Orlando McKay, things you don't see many receivers of great teams do a lot of today. Many think the 1990 team was better, but they stumbled against a subpar UCLA team. They aren't the GOAT, but they certainly rank pretty high up there.

@@Stinkinbadgez The best HUSKY team of all time, but not the best COLLEGE TEAM of all time, but still exceptionally good, and better than the 2023 team. In comparison, the 91 obviously had a WAY better defense and a WAY better running game and a better OL. THE 2023 team IMO has the more effective QB and more and better receivers. And don't call me goofy A HOLE, I've been a Huskies fan for nearly as long as you and have watched nearly every game that was televised, and have been watching football since the mid 1960s, so I know what I'm talking about! HA! Please man, 91' Canes beating the 91 Huskies? Not a chance. Dawgs had Too much balance on O and were too dominant on D. Compare the stats. Then the 94' Huskies ended the Canes home winning streak with the whammy in Miami. Then The Huskies beat the 2000 Canes in Husky Stadium. The 91' UW team experts agree were the better team. No doubt.

exor11110 those are the only 2 teams that I think would be a toss up if they played. Home team wins most of the time I think... Washington just had such a great front 7, easily the best ever, so a mobile QB was a must to be able to move the ball at all against them with any success.....

First of all how did don James cheat. I guess you didn't hear the whole story. It was Billy Joe herbert who bragged about getting a new car from his agent .accepting gift from his agent. Instead of punishing one bad apple they punishing the whole team. See Washington was a power house if you can't beat the. Get rid of them. And second of all Don James didn't quit he helped coaching from the press box .for a few years after that
