This is from the musical, Les Miserables, which was based on the novel written by Victor Hugo and published in 1862. It is considered one of the finest works of the 19th century. It is a story about a poor man’s survival and climb up the social ladder and his love for his adopted daughter in revolutionary France. The multi-Tony award and international award winning live performance adaptation has played simultaneously around the world - 15 concurrent productions around the globe, translated into different languages - more than any other live production in history, since its first release in Paris, France in 1980. It is the second longest running theatrical presentation of all time. The original cast of the British version was lead by Colm Wilkinson who played the lead character of Jean Valjean. The other 3 men performing in this video have also played Jean Valjean on stage. There is so much powerful music in this production it is a must see/hear for any music-lover. I’ve seen it performed live 3 times. LOL

Colm Wilkinson sang this in his role on stage for 20 years. Of all the performers who sang this song in productions around the world, Colm is known as the gold standard.. at the 25th anniversary, they bought on stage all the singers from around the world, and they stood on stage with him, and all sang this song together. Alfie Boe is an opera singer. I think this was the 25th anniversary of Les Mis, and the other 3 men had played the lead in previous London performances. Alfie had a white shirt because he'd performed the lead that night. Bring Him Home is a solo but they made it a quartet and performed it after the show, which is set in Paris in the 19th century.

I am not a Christian, but this is one of the most powerful songs in this musical, which still ranks in my top 3 favorites. If you have not seen this musical, I suggest it. It is a story about redemption, with a strong faith component. It is also incredibly sad.

It was a wonderful tribute to the men to bring them all together. The BBC are showing a six part series of Les Miserables by Victor Hugo starting on the 30th of December (2018). It promises to be close following of the original text. I'm sure it will be available World wide too.

Colm Wilkinson (the first gentleman to sing) is the first actor to play Jean Valjean in the stage version of Les Mis. He also plays the priest in the movie version where Hugh Jackman plays Valjean.

The man in the white shirt who made you scratch your head first? That, my friend, is (Englishman) ALFIE BOE. My all-time favorite JEAN VALJEAN! He was born to sing this part. He makes singing those high notes seem so effortless, never strains to hit them! He became interested in singing popular music (as opposed to opera) by watching/listening to performances by FREDDIE MERCURY! There is a great documentary on YT about how Freddie Mercury influenced Alfie Boe's career as a singer. Very interesting, though not short. The man in the white shirt is Alfie Boe. In my mind he is the best ever Valjean ! However , He can sing pretty much anything - he’s incredible. My favourite band is Queen and he can even sing their songs, which not a lot of people can. I had the honour of meeting him, he’s such a lovely, humble man and the only tenor I can listen to over and over again.

They were performing to members of the British Royal Family. The song was about a young man called Marius who the character the men were singing as (Jean Val Jean) was trying to save the life of. He had been shot during the French Revolution and had been taken to the sewers running under the city to escape. Interestingly, Cameron Mackintosh, who was the driving force behind the London production of "Les Miserables" has stated on record, that he thought the production was coming to the end of it's run. Ticket sales were dropping and often there were empty seats at performances. Then the "Susan Boyle" phenomenan occurred, with her incredible performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" from the show, on "Britains Got Talent". The video clip of her went viral across the globe within hours and ticket sales for the London Show, surged. He says not without foundation, that Susan Boyle "saved" the show, giving it renewed massive appeal...!!

The set up for Alfie to take the crescendo literally brings tears to my eyes. its a story within a story...the 'older' more experienced guys giving it to the young new comer. its just such a beautiful song regardless of your faith. you feel the prayer.

Look up Gary Morris singing Bring Him Home. He played ValJean on Broadway in 1988.I seen him in person and when he sang this song you could have heard a pin drop. It was at a small Country Club, just Gary and his guitar. Very powerful.

This song is really beautiful. The men in this are 4 singers/actors who have played that role over the years and in different countries. The oldest guy is my fav. The song is about the man who's (sort of) son in law has been in injured in the French revolution. Couldn't even begin to explain the whole story but it's magnificent.

The best in my opinion, was the Les Misérables 10th Anniversary Dream Cast back in 1995. This cast was hand-picked by Cameron Mackintosh who produced this concert. It had Colm Wilkenson (who was the original Jean Valjean) Philip Quast (who was fabulous as Javert) Michael Ball, Lea Solanga, (who was in another fantastic musical Miss Saigon) Ruthie Henshall to name a few of the most fantastic set of voices on one show. I am so happy to have the CD of this show which appeared on PBS, and for me to date, still the best of the best. And as another poster stated, the whole production is here on You Tube, and if you ever have the time, give it a look see, you will not be disappointed.

I've been a fan of Colm Wilkinson for about 28 years and I'm 31... My grandparents introduced me to Broadway shows beginning with The Phantom of the Opera. Colm Wilkinson did the demo for the title role (Phantom) and was Phantom in the Original Canadian Cast Recording. He originated the roles of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, Che from the musical Evita, The Phantom (that demo tape/production before it hit the West End in London, UK), the dual roles of Jekyll and Hyde in Jekyll/Hyde (again, on the concept album before it hit Broadway). I had the privilege and pleasure of seeing Colm in concert about 6 years ago and it's still in the top 3 experiences of my entire life. He can sing just about anything! His version of Gethsemane is by far my favourite, and he does a mean Tennessee Waltz. Neat fact: Bring Him Home, this song you reacted to, was written specifically for Colm because only he could hit the high note in the crescendo and actually took it up an octave during rehearsals, setting the bar SUPER high (pun intended) for everyone else who came into the role after him.

Les Mis is my favorite musical of all times. Hamilton is a close second, but Les Mis was the first that I would listen to the soundtrack on repeat.

Ty, it Cal=in Wilkerson and Lay Miz er ables, French and I played this song every night I was worried about my sons when they where off at school, doing whatever. This is a story of one of the French Revolution and God's Redemption of an angry bitter man. As he deserved to be. Great musical and great movie. I love it. I kept wondering when you'd get the tingles. I get them between my shoulder blades and down my spine.

This is one of the greatest musicals of all time. Highly recommend watching the play.

Ok, so, these guys got me in the classical music mood and I stumbled across this video of a little boy named Akim Camara playing with the Andre Rieu ( , which I have no clue about sorry. I tried to look it up on wiki for you but couldn't find an actual pronunciation, I just know it's Dutch.) and the John Strauss orchestra back in 2005. He was 3 and playing a violin with this orchestra and just absolutely adorable and pretty darned well behaved for his age. Thought since you have kids they might wanna see it. :)

You really, really need to do the version of this song with Alfie Boe and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It's the best rendition of this song I've ever heard. It'll give you chills and make the hair on your arms stand up.
