This video is somewhat informative but also terribly misleading. It’s not that “polyps can turn into cancer,” it’s that cancerous cells are often HIDING in polyps. Cancerous tumors in the colon can be essentially FLAT. Also, depending upon the incompetence of the operator, there’s up a 50% chance they miss polyps anyway. The GI doctor only spends about 6 minutes retracting the scope. And by the time the doctors have been looking at colons all day their attention is impaired all the more. The _same_ doctor in the morning is not the same as s/he was in the morning. PLUS, MOST people go through this procedure only to discover there was nothing found. Basically they have to perform 1,000 colonoscopies to save 27 people. And probably most of those people were overweight or even obese. Meanwhile, a patient could die in a matter of hours from a botched colonoscopy.
