Hi Peggy, sometimes that happens, LOL. Now that I have done a mind dump in my prior videos if anyone watches those for the detail, I want to start to do more targeted videos in the future, and I can refer back to the longer versions for when someone wants more in depth information. Thanks for the comment, Em

Hi! These videos are so wonderful and helpful, thank you for making them!!! You might have mentioned this before or plan to mention it in a future video, but how do you suggest color enhancing white flowers? Specifically, ones with thicker petals like roses rather than thinner petals like azaleas. I've found that thicker petals fade more than the thinner ones and might need a little extra love to get their color back.

HI Taylor, try a white fabric paint and dilute with mediums like what is talked about in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJOhh8mSq96whoU.html and check out the playlist kzfaq.info/sun/PLxKiESd8bksOod-3Fe7kS4jzcXpFiorRA Hard to use a marker since there generally there isn't a white. There are paint pen markers - I have not tried that in white, but may be interesting to test. Play around with different white mediums and see if any of them give you a result you like. I know what you mean about white botanicals and staying true to their color. Thank you for watching!

Thank you SO much for this! Do you suggest using alcohol Markers on other flowers? Many of my pressed flowers are perfect but will have a few spots that can def use some color. Would it be ok to purchase alcohol markers in many colors and then just use them where I need to?? Again thank you so much!

Hi, I use both alcohol markers and water based markers. Some water based markers are to wet for some items, especially really sheer ones, where the alcohol markers seem to work better. A consideration is what you cover the flower/leaves with for protection. Alcohol markers can bleed under cold laminates like contact paper where the adhesive is not "dry". However if you are putting them under glass, acetate and such then anything goes:-) Thank you for watching, Em

Hi Em. I watched your previous video (six) where your test different markers. It seemed that the Tulip Markers and Stained ones came out top when exposed to everything (assuming a covering sealant is to be used over the top at the end). I'm just wondering why you would opt for an alcohol based marker when alternative more robust options are available? Many thanks. Laura.

Hi Laura, I generally prefer fabric paint and dyes for most botanicals. However, some are just to sheer or have other attributes that make them curl to much or not accept the fabric paints - usually water soluable. That is when I will pull out the alcohol markers or ink. The example of the cosmos is a botanical that just gets all out of shape with water based paint - it works, I just don't like how it affects the flower that even re-pressing doesn't solve. But then again I am very picky, LOL. The main things to be aware of is that with alcohol markers they can bleed under some kinds of covers. For example in tests it doesn't like contact paper, but was fine with packing tape and hot laminates. On the other hand, water soluable paints may run if you put water based mediums, for example a mod podge, on top - but not always? So the best thing is to test with what you have on hand and see how it goes. There is not one way to do things. When using acetate, glass and so forth, it doesn't matter what kind of paint medium used. Creativity and playing around, for me, is half the fun. Thank you for watching.

Hi, there are lots of brands on the market. I have and used in this video these www.amazon.com/dp/B07NRB5G3Q?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzemsplace-20&creativeASIN=B07NRB5G3Q&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.1RUIWYXFV7I3Y&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ons_mixed_d_asin&th=1 There is a fine and brush, and a chisel and brush. I have both so it depends upon you needs. Make sure whatever you get has a "brush" tip included. Also note that is an affilitate link with no additional cost to you should you purchase anything. It helps the channel. Thank you for watching, Em

So how do you think this compares to another method you recommended for color enhancing using fabric paint mixed with 50/50 vinegar and rubbing alcohol to thin the fabric paint? Do you think one method looks more “natural” than the other? Thank you! I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Only wished I started pressing flowers years ago!

Hi Jody, color enhancement is something I have been playing around with for decades. I wish there was one medium or colorant for all occasions, but sadly that isn't the case. I prefer the mediums and fabric paint/dye for most things, if possible, since it is easy to use. And when the paint is diluted with the medium, it makes it more of a tint than a "paint". Using a dye like Rit works good too when diluted with a medium that has a little acrylic in it (one of the formulas contains something like that). The markers (prefer brush tips) work good too for smaller items, but need to think about water vs. alcohol. I really like the alcohol for some things that don't like a water base, or for sheer items that need something to dry fast. I am still experimenting to see if alcohol markers bleed under protective covers that have adhesive. It's all one gigantic experiment - thank goodness I like that aspect, LOL. Thanks for watching!

Have you used any of these colored flowers in resin and did they run?
@emsplace
@emsplace 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I have used them in resin. Do a test with the resin and the type of colorant you use to be sure it is compatible. Some types of colorants will run/bleed under resin. But for most, most of what I use it is fine. Test before doing something really important though. Em

Hi John, I mentioned this subject in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ncehi62ly9XNj40.html at around 9:55 and put this in the comment section: Here is a link for the kind of white alcohol ink I use on many white pressed flowers amzn.to/3wagGbo Here is a link to the Tulip paint I show in this video I use on pressed flowers: Neon amzn.to/2RjfG6c The Tulip Rainbow in that same size and count I can no longer find. I hope they have not discontinued it. A lot of people were complaining about the spray nozzles not working very good. Just open off the top and use a brush. I really like the paint. The only one I can find is in a smaller size bottle amzn.to/3ogGXSK but who know how long it will be around? Hopefully this will get you started, Em

how would alcohol markers on flowers in resin react?
@emsplace
@emsplace Жыл бұрын
Hi, in my experience alcohol inks and markers, as well as solvent based markers like sharpie, will run/bleed in resin. I mostly use water soluble or fabric colorants and markers for resin. Having said that, do your own test since all materials are formulations are different, and you may have other brands than I have used. Experiement and let me know what you find out. Thanks for watching, Em

To press cosmos, do you take apart the petals and the middle and then reconstruct when they come are done pressing?
@emsplace
@emsplace 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Annie, not generally. The centers of cosmos are not so hard that they can't be pressed intact with enough weight on top. You can take them apart if you want too. While not showing cosmos: this is a good, and shorter, video about the process I use kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q72go9lhzrSalHU.html Thanks for asking and for watching, Em

color spreads after putting resin :(
@emsplace
@emsplace 8 ай бұрын
Hi, yes I would like to do video about this subject as time allows. Basically, solvent and alcohol inks will bleed under resin and many coverings that remain moist, for example contact paper and such. So use water soluble colorants for resin or they need to be protected with some sort of water base protectant. There is more to talk about and hope to get to this in the new year. I try to remember to remind people to always test a small item first because there are so many variables. It is all one big experiment. Keep trying and hope you find something that works for your ideas. Thank you for watching, Em
