American Pastel Artist Avon Waters demonstrates how color relativity is important and how artists can control and balance colors. Using a gaudy underpainting that was begun in Episode 9 -- a painting using about 4 basic colors to block in a landscape. he shows how to take a painting the next step by balancing colors from top to bottom. It is important to work all parts of a painting because one color next to another, color relativity and color theory, makes every color placed to the next change, depending on the relationship of each color to those next to it.

Thank you for your teaching I have pastels but ownly done bits and pieces can you show us how to gesso a paper for pastel I fined the paper expensive much appreciativestay well and safe🦘🙏🐨thank you

Yes I will.. that’s a good topic and Ill add it to my list…. Using gesso you can use old matt board centers you cut out as well as cardboard cereal boxes if you are just doing practice

do you have any books to recommend for soft pastel artists? not for beginners or learners, advance stuff if there is any. Also the video being in 360p is quite difficult to view.

Great feedback on video quality…Ill have to do some research to see what free options I have to increase the def. Theres a good book by Mitchel Albala The Landscape Painters Workbook, but it may not be all pastel , I can’t remember, but I do know it has a lot of pastels as examples. Albert Handell has a nice painting landscapes in Pastel. I hope that helps

@@PastelWithAvon On better video quality is down to what equipment you are using, if you are using any modern day phone to record then it will be at least 720p more likely to be 1080p. Its probably down to incorrect recording selection, or uploading in only 360p, easy fixes :) Thank you for the book recommendation
