Colorado Black Bear Hunting | Pure Hunting, S.6, Ep. 603, "Black Bear Dilemma"

It took me a few years to draw this Colorado bear tag in unit 61. Chris and I both drew this tag and we headed out with high hopes since we knew the bear density and the area, since Chris had hunted elk in it a few years ago. I've hunted a long time, but never had the experience I had while on this hunt.

Photos(carcess, vehicles nearby w/plates and facesin scopes,) GPS pins, and then call cpw and give ALL of that the the local officer. Those POS "hunters" committed felonies. Thank u Fer bringing to light an event that happens in this state to 100s of bears every year with no Repercussions or consequences.(but Chris and Chris did damn near the same thing with their bear.) It's a super sad thing. Personally as a local native I'd have confronted him or stood by his bear all night staring at him thru the scope.

I did all of that and did confront him, told him his bear was dead and gave HIM the GPS coordinates and photos and told him he needed to recover the bear and check it. I did follow up with CPW and he did check the bear so it ended okay. He wasn't good about following up on the recovery. I had his name and # so if he hadn't I would have followed up for sure.

I had a very similar experience elk hunting in Colorado a few years ago. I was aiming at a six point bull 150 yards from my tent. I heard 3 rifle shots go over my head. I watched the bull stagger and fall and die. But I NEVER DID FIND THE HUNTER WHO SHOT IT. They let it rot. I didn’t know what to do. I figured they went to get the horses. They never came back here

It’s so disappointing that there are “hunters” out there like that. They give the rest of us a bad reputation. Sorry you had to experience that. Thanks for commenting.

Any tips for unit 61? I drew the tag this year. Without giving away specifics, which part of the plateau would you recommend? I have some waypoints marked around the northern part but want to make sure I'm doing my due diligence. Thanks

Surprised you glassed up a cat, don't see that often. I'll be hunting bear for the first time in 61, should be a nice hike if nothing else. If anyone has any recommendations or tips I'm all ears!

I just received my first bear tag for 62, did it seem like there was many bears on the other side of the road? If you don't mind me asking? I saw quiet a few prints while hunting elk last year.

@@PureHunting Thank you! I'll keep you updated, I know a spot I want to throw a cam a week before that I found elk hunting that should be a nice secluded area that overlooked a nice used watering hole and large areas of berry patches and fresh prints.

I get it and If it was an OTC unit I wouldn’t post it. Never have, never will. However as you know as a resident, It’s a draw unit and takes a bunch of points for elk and bear. In addition our film permit required us to show the unit because it is a limited draw area.

Please do not put unit numbers in your videos. It impacts application trends and hunting pressure in these units when you give specific information and show recognizable ridge lines.

I am fully aware of that and normally don’t do it for those very reasons. Not my first rodeo. I don’t want any more people applying either. However, I was required to do so with my film permit.

Look harder for the bear they shot with the arrow. 25 yards, clean shot. Should be able to find that bear. Good video, but I’m disappointed it doesn’t show more effort to track the bear shot down.

I appreciate your comments. That’s always a tough one. How many minutes would a viewer watch to show/prove that good effort was given to find any animal that isn’t recovered? I’ve always been authentic with our videos, showing everything that happens, good or bad. Although this wasn’t me, if I didn’t feel they gave good enough effort I wouldn’t show it. Thanks again.

@@JJ-sk6uq Good question, but no. They were hunting the following day when we saw them AFTER we came across the bear they shot. They claimed they had looked for it and didn't find it. I directed them where to go and when I followed up with the game warden, they had recovered it and checked it in.
