I had to go back and watch this for umpteenth time. I hadn't watched it in some time. You had a perfect day for this video. This is the video that started me being a fan and binge watching your videos and this is the music I associate with your channel. We'll done my friend.

Cool! I am working on a vid right now and at that stage of thinking about music. My editing is done in stages. Sometimes I already know the music I want to use before I start, but other times the music comes later. Back to the stages, I usually put the video components together, then do all my titling. At that point I have a feel for the vid and know my music and about where I am going to use it. Then I add all my motorcycle audio and after all that is done I add in some music and adjust the other audio levels accordingly. Finally I do color corrections to each clip and I have a completed video. Today, as I mentioned is an audio day, and some of this music might be what I am looking for. Also today is a bit of green screen work and a Premiere later. Hey did I mention the Premiere? Hope to see you there!

I once went over this at 2 AM in a furious blizzard. It was snowing so hard you couldn't see the road, but it didn't matter, because the road had about a foot of fresh, unplowed snow on it, so you couldn't see it anyway. I later found out from my cousin, who worked for the Department of Transportation as a snowplow driver, that we were the last to cross that night, as they closed the road behind us.The only reason we made it was because there was a full moon above the blizzard illuminating things a little, and we could see where the road should be. We were in my friend Chuck's 1970 Pontiac Le Mans, rear wheel drive with meats on the back. It performed flawlessly.

Rode this the last time in 2008. Topeka, KS to Durango, up to Buena Vista, Rocky Mountain National Park, back to Topeka, 2 weeks, all on my bike. '05 Heritage Classic. The ride from Durango to Ouray can not be done justice by words. Been coming to this part of the country since I was a little kid on family vacations. Thanks for the video, brought back some great memories for me today. I hope and pray to be able to one day ride this road again. Million Dollar views in my mind.

I've never driven a motorcycle before. I've never even ridden on one before. When I see a video like this, though, it makes me wish I had. THIS is the true way to see America...on back of a motorcycle, wind in your face, the sun overhead, with nothing but the sounds of nature and of movement in your ears. I absolutely love the west, especially the southwest (NM, AZ, UT, and CO). If I ever learn to ride a motorcycle, you can sure bet I'll be traveling in those areas! Thank you for the excellent videos. I'll definitely be subscribing. Are those areas pretty friendly to motorcycles?
@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz 9 жыл бұрын
Morogorin We have been very pleased with how friendly those areas are towards motorcycles and their riders. The motels/hotels, restaurants, and stores, and other services seem to pay extra attention toward the special needs and wants of the riding travelers. The traffic is mostly respectful on the secondary roads except for around the large urban centers. And yes it is a great way to experience these areas. Maybe we will see you on a bike in our travels one day!

I head out Friday morning, leaving North Alabama, heading to Colorado. My #1 destination is the Million Dollar Hwy. And every other beautiful road I can find. Which I'm guessing will be every road out there. Aftet I explore Colorado for 3 or 4 days I'm going into Whyoming to ride the Beartooth Hwy into Montana. I just hope the weather is good, don't mind the cold but I don't want rain. Either way I have 14 days to ride wherever and do whatever I want. 2021 ZX10-R will be the steel horse I ride on this adventure. Also the last week of this month I'm heading to Austin TX from N. Bama, for the Moto GP race and I have 10 days for that adventure. Cannot frinkin wait. Never been more west that Louisiana, so this is going to be one he'll of a month of riding. And no I'm not loading the bike in a truck or on a trailor, 2 wheels only all the way! 👍

Let me just tell ya. The video does not do it justice. I spent the night in Ouray when I was out there a couple years ago. I was up late drinking beers and all that so I coulda been in better shape to do that drive over to Silverton. I looking down from the outside lane going in the Silverton direction was giving me a solid case of whatever they call fear of heights. All I could think of was the Jeep Cherokee I was in doing a barrel roll down that endless steep slope to oblivion. There is a very slim margin for error on this road. Would love to run a Harley down that sucker one day.

A Harley is capable of so many different sounds, depending on whether it is accelerating, decelerating, or just a lazy cruise. By the way my bike isn't a Harley and really doesn't sound like one because of the significantly different engine design.

@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz 4 жыл бұрын
The most challenging part of this highway the 12 miles long Uncompahgre Gorge. The rest is a very standard mountain pass road with beautiful views and an enjoyable road to ride. However there are actually three sections with switchbacks. Coming from Silverton there is a sharp switchback at the base of the climb to the top of Red Pass. After the summit of Red Pass there is a group of eight switchbacks on the descent into the valley below. Then the descent from that valley to the Gorge has another 4 switchbacks, a couple of which are just over 180 degree turns. But the gorge itself is the challenging part, the part where I actually met people that told us, in cars, that they turned around because it was too unnerving, and that I should turn around too. Thanks for watching, and leaving a comment.

I thought it was great music, although it was Very repetitive it seemed. I prefer this style over hard rock. You gotta have more peaceful music to match that serenity......

what camera are you using? And how do you have it mounted? Plan on hitting it soon. Times always an issue for me to get down there.

Hello Aaron. I use a GoPro 3 Black. I have the camera mounted off the mirror stalk on the left side of my handlebars. Here is a link to a picture of it in action on my Facebook business page: facebook.com/dryrockstudios/photos/a.453336891456077.1073741828.451931728263260/872346102888485/?type=3&theater

I travel Red Mountain pass so often I have named all of the trees,do you know why it is called the million dollar highway? There are two schools of thought on this one but my great grandfather was on the original construction crew and I tend to go with his explanation,first it is said to have to cost one million dollars a mile to build,second it is believed that the rock crushed to make the road base was so rich in gold that there was at least one million dollars worth of ore per mile.Pappa thought the second was more accurate

alecamal I had learned of both versions when we traveled the highway and either are good stories. It is very cool you have such a personal connection to the highway and now I have a more personal connection as well. I will in the future be able to say that a member of the construction crew claimed the rock used to make the roadbed was so rich in gold...... Thanks for that. I would also like to add that a third claim could be made, that the views are worth a million dollars. Thanks for watching my vids!!

Enjoyed the Video, headed up that way in May. What time of year is this and what type of camera are you using?

Wayne West This was mid September and I am using a GoPro. May will be beautiful, but chilly in the mornings, probably a bit like September. Spend some time in Ouray, it is a little gem, and has hotels with hot springs, pretty nice!

Beautiful scenery - liked video because I felt as if I was riding the road, since we are now confined to our house due to virus it was twice as enjoyable. Sure don't have many guardrails along most of the ride. I live in NC have you done the Devils Tail ride? Wishing you the best ride safe

Thanks for the comment Amos, and for watching. If you are referring to the Tail of the Dragon in NC then no I have never been on it. However over here on the west coast we do have a ride on what is called the Devil's Tail. It is located along the Snake River, in Idaho and Oregon. A link to my video of the ride is here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b5OSedt5nuC4ppc.html

Very nice video Robert. I was on the same ride in 2004 from Las Vegas to denver on a Goldwing. As far as I remember everything is still the same. If you like to see how we ride here in Switzerland, look out for my KZfaq Videos from Swiss Tom.

Glad you like the videos! I have my camera mounted above my left handlebar grip. The pro to this location it gives a nice, center of road view. The con is there is lots of vibration on my handlebars, especially if I roll on the throttle, so it requires a lot of vibration dampening in this position.

Glad you like the video. A great area to visit, plan to spend a bit of time in Durango, Silverton, and Ouray. They are very enjoyable places to visit. Also check out my videos of Pagosa Springs to Durango and Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railway. As to the music, you will not find it available on ITunes. You can go directly to Jewelbeat on the internet. Jewelbeat is a supplier of recordings available for use on commercial productions but they will aslo sell music for personal use. Have a fun trip in July!!

You should try one with no music background or it is dropped in only for a drama moment. Just the motor and you and your wife.

Thanks for your comment and constructive criticism. The music is a tool I use, but that being said I have been told the same thing by others. I have changed and improved my audio in later videos, and I do try to leave longer times in the video with just the sound of the bike (the bike audio is way harder to construct then you probably realize). I do have a couple vids that are just pure bike, one of them is at this link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i5aRibKbuNKqh4k.html Again, thanks for the comment, I do hope you can continue to watch my videos, and I hope you find my newer ones to be better to listen to. Hi Pedro, the music is commercial music I bought to use for my KZfaqs. The company was called Jewelbeat and are now defunct apparently. The first track is called Raw Rivalry.
