It is nice to see a different side of you. You come across less serious and more fun loving. I would say you lost some footage but gained some humanity in my eyes. I'd like to see more of this person from time to time!

I appreciate your view of course 🙂 But would respectfully disagree. This is the same fun loving person that got me to subscribe years ago! It just depends on the project, the time, and the intent 🙂

A different side of me? I'm not sure what you mean by that. Since you don't know me & have never met me in person (I don't think). The version of me that you have put together is who you think I am based off a handful of KZfaq Videos you have watched & other people's opinions of "who I am". I very rarely take myself serious in person or in ANY media on the internet. Actually, when I do act serious & talk about something that I'm passionate about, people think that I'm being "negative" or there is "something wrong" or it's "not the Darwin they know". This is the negative effect of making personal media on the internet. People get to create whatever version of you that they want, based off of the little bits that they see of a person. Then put that person in a box, not letting them try & say new things. I appreciate your intent here & I'm happy you enjoyed the video, but if you want to see more of "that person", go watch the last 5 years of KZfaq content I've made. Follow my Instagram account. Listen to the multiple podcasts I've done. Watch the Film I made last year where I tried to share my "humanity" with the rest of the world & do something good to give back. 😉 ❤️

@@DarwinOnthetrail I meant no disrespect and I completely understand what you are saying about the person I think you are . I don't know you, and have never met you. I was just saying I appreciated the little things in this video that Juice captured. You waving at the camera at the top of the pass, sticking your tongue out when you came up the hill, "creeping" in the background while blowing up your air mattress. Just candid moments! I love your videos and you have been a big inspiration in me getting out and hiking over the past 3 years. I'm overweight, and I know I can't hike the mountains you do, but your stories about your past struggles help push me up my hills. I can't afford all the gear you use, but the reviews you have provided have helped me select better quality gear for myself. I do follow you on Instagram @hoodoodakini if you want to see my hikes. And I did purchase your movie and have it downloaded on my phone. I listen to it when I go camping and don't have service. I usually hike alone because I'm insecure about breathing heavy when climbing and I have been ridiculed by "friends" for useing trecking poles when I hike. Although these insecurities hound me, I push through knowing that you still get winded, or that you have to put your legs up after a hike and that even you (mostly for your shelter or as a twirling stick) have a trecking pole. Again sorry for triggering you and I apologise for the long post. I just wanted you to know that wasn't my intention. I truly look up to you and I hope you keep making amazing content!

Not “triggered” & no harm done here, just being honest. It’s something that’s been on my mind lately, how strange it can all be sometimes. Trust me, I would def share more “candid” moments if I regularly had another camera man with me 😂 I’m happy that I can continue to help Inspire folks like you to get out & experience the joys of what the trail has to offer. It’s the reason I do all of this in the 1st place.😉 Keep getting out there & enjoying it every chance you get my friend. Thanks for the continued support ❤️

Thanks for the great video. Too bad about the lost footage. It reminds me of a class that I took from National Geographic chief photography editor. They format their SD Cards once when the card comes out of the package brand new and then used once. They never reuse their SD cards. They also make 3 copies of the raw footage. The reasoning behind this policy is that trips and moments are priceless, compared to memory cards. I thought that policy was excessive since I have to buy my memory cards, but I have done the same thing you did. Thanks again for all the great videos you do!!!!

This is me being very ignorant, but the film quality seems super decent to me - cell phones these days! I know you really enjoy your fancy camera stuff and obviously need it for the documentaries, but as a viewer for the channel content, I'm just as happy to watch this quality and the more light-hearted, banter-with-a-friend feel of this video, as others have commented. Hard to explain why, just seems refreshing :) Maybe an idea to film hikes more in this easy-going, cellphone mode from time to time and save some weight on the gear?

My worst fear is accidentally deleting footage because I hike a lot of stuff twice for the 3rd person angle hundreds of times. Which means I'm putting more miles than I need to than if I just hiked and filmed, like your friend Juice. One thing I started doing is, well, it was camera choice - I bought a camera body with dual slots that supports tandem recording. And purchased two identical 512gb SD cards. Tandem puts a 2nd copy of all footage onto the 2nd card. When I get home from a trip and start working on a video, the 2nd card is removed from the camera, put in a safe place, and doesn't get put back in and reformatted until I leave for the next trip video after the last one is already (1) backed up on HDD and (2) on youtube.

Once back in the days of 35mm SLR cameras my wife and I went on a long weekend vacation with another couple. I was the designated photographer. The exposure counter on those 35mm film cameras would advance even if you didn’t have film in it. So yeah, I thought I shot 36 exposures and then discovered much to my dismay that there was actually no film in the camera! I know nowadays 36 exposures seems like no big deal but back then with film you really tried to make every picture count. 36 exposures was an entire weekend trip...

What.A.Chapper! And of the best sections of the CT. You owe Juice Hikes big time. Think I'll head over to his channel and see what I'm missing😉. Who else is coming along!?

Honest mistake... could happen to anyone. At least didn’t forget where you hung your bear bag the following morning 😜 Great video nonetheless! Thanks, Juice!

I guess I’ll just have to pack up and go see those missing miles for myself. That was still great footage! Thanks for being a human, making mistakes and recovering just like the rest of us.

Having worked in film and feeling like I get your temperament. I bet you were not. A happy camper when this went down, but lost footage happens, you salvaged the situation. My only criticism is the confession itself. Did anyone suggest maybe not mentioning the issue. You did it in a very funny way that made me smile so that was worth it , and it fits your open and transparent style we don’t see from any other backpacking youtubers. I basically just wanted you to know it worked out great, and much like how a composer sees missed notes by the orchestra as big mistakes, the audience often never even notices (they are too busy enjoying the show) The subltle music change, the guest Vlogger , I’d not have blinked twice a “change of pace” in the episode. So what you saw as a catastrophically compromised narrative , your loving audience sees as an interesting gear change. So it worked great the way you did things, and these things happen to every director of photography (it’s how we all end up with these strict memory card management systems on sets)

Always nice to hike along with you - it’s amazing how high-quality that cellphone video can be these days :) One thing I’ve gotten into the habit of doing is using my cell phone as a databank for my SD card. Every night on a trip - I plug a little adapter in and copy the footage over. That said - it also means you need the space on the phone to do that :)

wheezing the juice footage to fix your mistake? It's cool. Good job coming up with a solution and making this east coaster jealous of those views!

Shoot, well, things like this happen. It's so, so annoying, I have been there too, but on the bright side: Hey Juice, nice to meet you ;-) Somehow it gives a nice different view into your hike, Darwin. It's a like a special episode or behind the scenes.

Hey I have seen one of Juice's videos before on YT while he was hiking the Colorado Trail. I thought he would have met up with you. Dope 👍 It was cool to see a different perspective. I definitely appreciate the video. Also, keep in mind. If we hide the grays, we can stay 29 for awhile 😆🤙
