Thank you, Monica :-) It IS a fun stitch. I was playing with it for almost two weeks. Every time I swatched, a new idea would come to mind about how to use this stitch in a project. Such a simple technique, so many ways to use it :-)

This is very clever. If your child/grandchild enjoys playing they are cooking or having tea parties with their teddy bears, you can knit pizza slices. Or you could knit in eyes on knitted toys. This could be used to add Christmas ornaments to Christmas Stockings, or strings of colorful lights and all will marvel how clever you are. Thank you.

How timely is your post! I recently started a blanket for my great nephew and thought it needed some extra zip. Thank you so much for sharing this technique!

You are most welcome, Donna. These little nupps will look great on a blanket. If you don't plan to add many of them, it's better to weave in the tails of each nupp once you finish the blanket (as opposed to trimming the tails as I did in the video). This way both the right and the wrong sides will be perfect. Happy knitting!

Is there a difference between Nupps and Bobbles? It seems to me that they are made pretty much the same way. Maybe the difference is that bobbles are done in the project yarn color and Nupps are made with a contrasting color? Thank you. I love your tutorials - simple explanations and demos!

Hi Maggie. That's a great question. Usually, nupps are smaller than bobbles and are made over one or two rows. Bobbles are usually made over three to five rows. That being said, there is a smaller version of bobbles that is done over 2 rows. But to make that small bobble the stitches are increased by knitting and purling into the same stitch, not by knitting and making yarn overs as we do when we make nupps. As to the colour, nupps are traditionally made with the same colour as the project itself. Making them in a different colour was just my attempt at playing with nupps :-)

fun and simple ...if you made a vertical row would they be strong enough to act as a button?
@10rowsaday
@10rowsaday 3 жыл бұрын
Not really. They are not long enough to give a good grip for the button hole. You could try to make them longer. Maybe, that will help. I haven't tested out this idea yet. Good luck :-)

If you’re using the same color (or variegated) for all the nupps, is there any advantage to not cutting the yarn but just carrying it from one to the next as you do for Fair Isle type colorwork?
@10rowsaday
@10rowsaday 3 жыл бұрын
Of course. Carrying the yarn between nupps will save you from weaving in lots of yarn ends. But it is only feasible to do when the nupps are located close to each other.
