In this video I show you a few unexpected ways to use alcohol inks. They can be used to add color to non-porous items like glass, plastic, ceramic & metal.

Glad I didn’t toss a bunch of findings! I belonged to one of the bead clubs for awhile and have these bright yellow findings, I tried adding patina to them and was not thrilled. This looks like the solution, also to the rose gold findings. I know a lot of people love rose gold I don’t. Now I can play with what I have and maybe make them into something I love.

Hope this helps! You can also use things like in Vintaj patinas, which are permanent on metal. Happy creating 😀

Thanks, Terri! Coloring the slides was done the exact same way as coloring the metal pieces, add a few drops of alcohol ink to a felt applicator, then dab to apply it in areas. Happy creating! 🙂

One of the things I've used the inks for, is decorating blown out eggs. Something about the egg shell, causes the inks to spread, giving a marble like effect. Adding rubbing alcohol helps those effects even more. I use white pipe cleaners rolled in a small coil to apply.

Hi Sandy, I managed to get some alcohol inks today, in nice colors botanical green pink shell,sunshine,wild plum raspberry,and mermaid,, but was unable to get the rubbing alcohol, as it had sold out,, but going to try a tiled foil, with dryed leafs,, a d have an aluminium dragonfly that I want to use the inks on too, great craft, I love how the inks work, this will be a first time try,, but I'm confident about it, love what you done with the silver leafs, take care lovevyour work Sandy☺👍👍👍👍🍁🍂🌈🌹🌺🌹🌺

There so beautiful,Sandy and so easy to go overboard with them if not carefull, I'm getting a few more on Friday and some tools for the inks and a few more inks to start a good collection of them, so that I have call the colors, the weather has been bad last few days so I can't get the leaves to dry them,always raining here in west cork, but will try that one with the foil, and have silver and gold leaf too, to experiment with,it gives a lovely diluric effect on jewellery with the foils and aluminium, have a great week Sandy,🍂🍁🍂🍁🌹🌺🌹🌺

Beautiful projects! How do you seal them? Mainly metal jewelry. Can you wax them, like with Renaissance wax? Yours are so beautiful!

What is the white surface you use that cleans up so well? Is it some sort of reusable mat?

It's a ceramic tile from Home Depot. It's a favorite surface for working with polymer, I have them in multiples of several sizes.

Do you have to put a protective coating of anything on top of the dried ink painted charm?

+jen jen I usually don't bother sealing alcohol inks. They are not water based, but may react if they come in contact with other things, but I don't let it worry me. Also, a problem with some sealers is that they will cause your inks to smudge. If you do a search on "sealing alcohol ink" you'll find lots of discussion and controversy on the topic!

If you use a brush on type of sealer, it probably will smudge, like Sandy said. Any non-yellowing spray works like a charm. I use Krylon spray gloss or satin.
