Even if there are other brands of water based dual ended markers out there, I am not ditching my Tombows. Or my King Arts. I would just add the new in

I have the full set of Karin brushmarker and a couple of Towmbow. I always reached for my Karin. They are fun to play with as a regular marker or watercolor pencil. Love the vibrancy of the color. The fact that they are easy to use for a beginner. Love mine and looking into the metallic set now.

I like the Tomboy for the 2 nibs; a really good fine nib end and the brush tip is good for lettering. The down side to Tomboy for me is that when they start to dry out they streak along instead of flow. I haven't used the Karin yet and I will take your suggestion and get a small set to try.

FYI: 63 for $115.83 at Blick. $23.79 for 12 color sets. They have around 60 colors plus a blender, open stock. 😁 I like them as an alternative to the Zon.

I love them both but I have to say the Karin markers are slightly better and juicier than tombows… but I am happy to have them both 😊

To answer your question I have both tombow and Karin. I use them mostly for lettering and much prefer Karin. The nibs are heartier. I have frayed a lot of my tombows over time.

I have a full set of Tombow's and Karen Markers and I love both. You can get some lovely effects with Karen's and beautiful blends but I've found that they are really fussy with paper and wrong paper makes a frustrating experience, also due to the liquid ink which blends so easily they can also be a bit messy. My Tombow's are much less fussy about paper as long as it smooth, and less hassle I guess because I don't worry so much about leaking or leaving the lid off and it falling on my white rug quite as much, also they less bulky can fit in a big bunch in a pencil case for travel.

Hullo Jennifer, Steve, &Rose! I have watched several artists use Karin markers for painting lovely pictures. I got my first Karin marker in my hand from a Scrawlrbox purchase. I have since purchased the basic 12 set of Karin markers. Now I have a set of knock-off Tombow pens and on the whole the Karin’s are just a bit nicer but if I am honest the knockoff pens are much cheaper than regular Tombows! I am often comparing my markers to travel watercolor palettes, the watercolors win every time! You are able to mix so many more colors with watercolor paints and I get to choose the quality of my brushes too! Thank you for sharing this quick look at the big Karin set, they are a lovely marker and if I have a few dollars sitting about, I may invest in some more of them, I am hoping for a better look at the Karin’s with some artwork? Thank you.

Great video, thanks for the review! I am a newbie at hand lettering and have purchased the small pack of brushmarker pros and the deco brush metallics. I love them both! Would love the entire set some day - I prefer the karin to tombow, the colors are much more vibrant in my opinion and the tips hold up better for all my stroke practicing.

These are new to me. I have most of the Tombows. I would probably lean toward the Tombows because of the dual tips. One tip is a brush nib like the Karins, the othe nib is smaller. About the size of the typical markers we all had as kids. However, I also have most of the Marvy Le Plume II set because those markers have dual tips as well, one is a brush nib, but the other is a detail nib that is way smaller than the Tombows small nib. Think Micron pen nib. I love craft supplies so I will probably at least buy the small 12 pack to try. 😊❤

I have not tried the Karen Brush Markers I do Have a small set of of Tombows though which I love. Building my supplies takes Time all these wonderful tools to use . The acrylic ones sound very Kool Those would love to have too for sure as I paint with Acrylics ,and have used some Acrylic markers but have not been to impressed as they often do not work well. Thanks for sharing with us 💖

@Coloring Bliss Can you do a review of art Bibles for paper thickness, absorbency, bleed, etc.? I've wanted to get one for a ling time, yet am not sure which ones have better paper, nor which pens go best with them. Thank you! I've bought pens that you've said are nice, and I've never been disappointed! You do great reviews! Thank you so much!

**QUESTION ** How do you control the brush tips? I find sometimes the tip "flicks" in an unintended direction. I agree that the Karin markers have very vibrant, juicy ink.

I noticed in the amz descripton that there is no mention of a blender in the 'basic 12 brush' set. hmm...

I notice that these markers are stored upright in the box when all my other markers are stored horizontally. Does this have any effect on them ?

Thanks for this detailed review. Question: I rarely use my Tombows because of the way they streak and also pill the paper. I know this is characteristic of water-based markers. Are the Karins any better in terms of these issues, or about the same? I’ve tried alcohol based markers (which don’t have those problems) but am concerned about long-term exposure to their fumes. For these reasons, I pretty much stick to colored pencils. But I’m very interested in your thoughts about my questions re the Karins. Also curious about your thoughts re health concerns from fumes from alcohol based marker. Thanks!!!

My Tombows only pill if I use them over and over on unsized paper. Watercolor and mixed media paper sized for wet media are good for using Tombows on. They even do okay on cardstock with my rubber stamps as long as I don't flood the paper with them.

I use hot watercolour paper with my tombows and have no issue with pill or nib fraying

Tombows are water based markers so unlike alcohol they will streak but you can smooth things out with a damp paint brush if that bothers you, and I dont have a problem with them piling on the the paper as long as its smooth paper quality paper, copy paper will pill and damage the nibs, Rodia paper is perfect for tombows they just glide over and the ink stays on the surface just long enough to blend.

I guess sponsored means something specific and technically you aren’t, but if you are reviewing something free, especially something expensive, that’s an issue. It can be hard to get trustworthy reviews because these companies swamp all creators.
