If you have a local art supply store, they may have individual pencils that you can purchase for probably less than $2.00 each. I have built much larger sets by doing this and you will be surprised how large a set you will have in no time. Good luck!

My only local store is Walmart. Nearest art stores are some distance away. Hobby Lobby is 70 miles in Sierra Vista. Michael's and JoAnn's is 110 miles in Tucson and Jerry's and Blicks are 180 miles away in Phoenix area.

Just a heads up Amazon has had a crazy price flux going on with the prismacolor 150 set this weekend it has gone down to $67 and as of right now you can get it for $71 so if you are trying to get the set and were waiting for a good deal I'd watch it right now and jump on the sale!

Opal is one of my favorite gemstones, and just so happens to be my birthstone. The black variety is breathtakingly beautiful and exceedingly rare, and would make the perfect subject for coloring on black-toned paper.

Anyone needing tips to train yourself to use super light pressure, take up calligraphy! I've been a heavy handed artist my entire 37 years of life and only in the last three years or so, since beginning to learn calligraphy, have I actually been able to truly use super light pressure. Now for colouring I've been able to have light pressure for decades, but it was always super difficult to get into that mindset. Since learning calligraphy, however, I have been able to even draw lighthandedly, which is something I was never able to get myself to do in the past! If you take this advice, and can afford it, I suggest beginning to learn calligraphy with the Tombow Fudenoske pen. It's a flex nib pen and you can get them in packs of 2 generally: silver (super stiff) and gold (a little more flexable). The silver banded pen is amazing for heavy handed people because you have to use a lot of pressure to get those thicker lines. After getting a hang of it, graduating to the gold feels like an accomplishment. When I graduated to the gold pen, I realized was when I was confident in being able to switch between heavy handed and light handed strokes effortlessly. I don't work for Tombow or anything, I just like helping people out and because heavyhandedness broached, I figured I'd suggest a permenant solution to help with it, should anyone need to hear it. Anyway, have a great day, week, month, year, rest of your life everyone ❤

I love opal and Sapphire is my gemstone, so I was super happy you showed both. The blue gem with the star in the middle is a star sapphire! I actually have a star sapphire ring that I am absolutely OBSESSED with. I freaking love that thing so much. I have these dainty child sized hands (generally... like when they're not swollen to their limit from my lifelong battle with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) so I always preferred small rings. They stopped making star sapphire rings in "women's" sizes over a century ago because it was too difficult to make them into stones that size. So what I have, that has been passed down through 4 generations, is apparently now super rare. It is probably my most prized material posession.

Jennifer, I don’t do much “just coloring” anymore, but I really enjoy watching you. You have such a nice voice to hear and I just love to watch videos like yours about artistic endeavors, all kinds, and I still plan to use my color pencils for my art again too, Right now, I’m working to build my fine art skills mostly in oils and watercolors. But what got me back into my art mojo, that I neglected for so long, was COLORING. If more people could realize how helpful building their coloring skills are...how it helps you to learn about color choice, shading, highlighting, mixing colors, recognizing patterns and just becoming more secure about the beauty that we can all create. And you and Steve truly help so many people do this. Thanks for all you do!

One thing that would help with choosing intensity of colors, is to use a black and white filter on your cell phone’s camera. Go with light medium and dark there, as well as with the actual colors.

Jennifer I just discovered something new. The Rich and Ray reusable silicone twist ties with magnets, sold on Amazon. It’s a silicone “string” with magnet flowers on each end. I put 2 strings , 1 vertical and 1 horizontal, across my metal pencil tins to keep them from coming apart and dumping all over when I travel. They seem to be really strong and helpful!

I think the SF pencil gems looked great on the black. They kinda looked more realistic because they were slightly duller. It’s like real gems would have some transparency if they were sitting on the paper and the black would show through making them more muted in colour.

I missed this video when you first posted it, but I wanted to say that I just got your new Mandala Bliss with the black paper, and I absolutely love it! I've wanted to try a black paper coloring book for a long time, but never could find one. There are a lot of coloring books that have a black background, but the part you color is actually white, so I was thrilled when you announced that your latest coloring book had the option of being printed in black. I appreciate the simpler mandala designs in this book because I can spend a couple of hours instead of days to achieve some beautiful colors and blends. Thank you also for the jewel tips. They were really helpful and easy to follow.

When it comes to picking lights, mediums, and darks I use a value finder made for quilting. It's just a cardboard frame with a piece of red plastic. The colors don't show through, but you can see value much more easily. You can find them cheap at a fabric or crafting store.

I’ve read that there is a an opal mine in Utah where they give tours and let you mine. Sounds so fun! But I’m sure it’s in the middle of no where. There’s also a place in Idaho where you can hunt for diamonds. Hope you have fun on your mining adventure.

Hi there! Thanks for spending so much time and attention on this coloring crazy we all love :) I was just wondering if you have the Cezanne set and have compared them to the Scrpirerr Farbens? I have heard they're the same, and according to other videos I've seen that show lightfast testing, the SPs have better lightfastness than most budget colored pencils. Since the Cezanne set has 120 vs the SP's 96, I was debating which to choose. I believe the Cezanne set has more grays and metallics, which I'm not interested in - I don't use metallics, and Prismacolor has plenty of grays. Unless the SPs or Cezannes' have blue-grays, which are much more rare, for some reason. It would help tremendously if you have swatches of both you could show side-by-side. I've seen videos of each, but not by the same person, and due to differences in lighting at each person's home, I can't really compare them. Thanks again for all you do for us, and happy holidays :)

To my knowledge the Schpirerr Farben pencils are an 'oil based' pencil ... so I would expect them to be less opaque than prismas.

I guess, there is no "right pronunciation" of Schpirrer, since it is not a real German word. It seems to be a made up, look-like-German word like Häagen-Dazs. And just like Häagen-Dazs they use letter combinations unknown in German. I have never come across a word where a "p" follows a a "sch", not even in a name. For the suggested pronunciation of "sh-p" you would only need an "sp", "Farben" though is a real word and means both colours or paints, and your husband pretty much nailed the pronunciation "fuh-bann".
