The Colt SAA is just a work of art. So beautiful. No other gun has the romance of a Colt SAA in my opinion. The sounds it makes, the loading procedure, the smooth action and the gorgeous simplicity.

A work of art is right. Those who don't like guns, even repulsed by them, don't get it and never will. Industrial art of anything can be beautiful, hifi equipment as well as firearms. Of the former, have you ever seen prettier equipment than what McIntosh produced? Luxman and Marantz came close.

Hickok45, I really enjoy your videos featuring historic firearms. For the record, I enjoy all of your videos and featured firearms. But, when you are shooting a piece of history, your passion for that firearm really shines through. I never grow bored with the history lessons either. From what I can see, you really did find your calling as a teacher. Thank you!

My first experience with a Colt SSA was shooting a friends guns. He had purchased a pair from about 1885/95, sequential serial numbers, engraved, in a beautiful wood presentation box, and UN FIRED. But he bought guns to shoot and he did---a lot. I was one of, if not the only one, he allowed to shoot them. I fell in love. Simple, comfortable, accurate, gentle recoil, and wonderfully well balanced. When he passed his wife sold off his guns and they are gone. But now I own a Beretta Stampede 45 LC. It is a beautifully made clone of an SSA but with a transfer bar. It looks, feels and handles just like the originals but will handle any SAAMI spec ammo. My new love!

AR's and SCAR's...hi cap wonder 9's and Tupperware handguns...sometimes it's nice to just hit the range with an old six gun and a lever-action rifle. I have a Colt SAA in 45 LC made in 2011. It has a removable cylinder bushing and is probably the sweetest little six gun I have ever seen...They really are turning out some of the best peacemakers ever these days. Thanks for the great videos Hickok45...The wife and I check your youtube channel every day...keep 'em coming!!

My grandfather was a fLL dealer. I grew up helping him lug these around to different gun shows, and selling them on gunbroker because he was old and had emphysema. Talking to old timers was the best. This was all pre Obama era. (04-09) I had such a good childhood. He has passed but we still have a lot of these guns. They’re worth a lot, even black boxes are worth like 500$ I think. He liked these because growing up in the 1950s, cowboys and Indians were very popular.

I haven't read all 411, at this point, comments, so if I'm echoing someone else's sentiments, I apologize for the repeat. Hickok, it was so nice to see your enthusiasm and love for these fine firearms. After the thousands and thousands of rounds you have fired, through so many guns, your affection for these Colts is readily apparent. I certainly appreciate the history lesson. It was so informative. I know basically nothing about those guns, as I do not collect them, but I was like a little kid at story time to hear you give that history lesson. And also, a kudo to John for hanging in there with you and bringing us something so rare and valuable these days. Your efforts are appreciated.

That's the main reason why I love this channel so much. Not a big fan of those high-tech semi-auto rifles and polymer handguns? Those are the ones where Hickok gets a little more enthusiastic during the video. :)

Years ago I was given a Colt SAA chambered for .38 WCF by the widow of a long time Oregon Sheriff. I had Colt research the serial number and learned it was made in 1904. It is my favorite handgun. The bluing is long gone as is the case hardening on the frame. But the action is still tight and it shoots right where I look. I semi retired it some years ago and bought a new generation SAA in .45 LC that I now carry. By the way, with practice the unload/reload time can be almost as fast as with a swing out chamber of a double action without a speed loader. There is a procedure that works well for me, at least.

Working on the homework assignment, Sir. My personal only SAA is a 1980 357 3rd gen. With the 7-1/2" bbl. You inspired me to dig it out and shoot it this past week.Still as slick as I remembered it being. If second gens are as great as you claim, this vid just put a 1963 model on my want list. Maybe a 4-3/4" this time. I still dont mind carrying my old vaqueros in the rain. But I dont think the Colt will see rain while Im the curator of it. And I really enjoyed this video!

Good video, Hickok45. Plus, thumbs up for saying 'blue lid to 55 gallon drum,' instead of saying, 'blue Kentucky pizza tray.' Hickok45 gives some need to know information about the old Colts SA, especially when he demonstrates the tool that helps with the removal of the cylinder. The tool helps keep the Colt from being marred. I always wondered, when watching the old time 'silent film westerns' - 'What's that piece of metal hanging from the Bull Durham bag.' Now, I finally know, 'It's the tool to help with the removal of the cylinder.'

You mentioned Wyatt Earp's Buntline Special. From what I have read, the 12 inch barrel was made up by Stuart Lake, the author of "Frontier Marshal." However, Wyatt told him before he died that he carried a 10 inch Colt SAA. Colt records state that there were as many as 30 Long barreled Colts ordered from the factory all in lengths of 9, 10, and 16 inches. None in 12 inch. The 16 inch ones were fitted with a detachable shoulder stock. And, the really interesting thing is that there is record of a 10 inch Colt being delivered to Tombstone, AZ around the time Wyatt was there. It was ordered by Buckskin Frank Leslie, who thought pretty highly of Wyatt, and some think he ordered one because Wyatt carried one. But, I think the Ned Buntline version of the story is bologna. They were called "buggy rifles" by Colt, and its ironic that we now today have named them after Buntline, who probably never had anything to do with any guns owned by Wyatt, Bat, Charlie Bassett, or Bill Tilghman lol.

Excellent! Hickok45...If you want a real treat, shoot a Cimarron "Evil Roy" Uberti in .45 LC. Cimarron has these models gun-smithed for Cowboy competition. Unbelievable! Better Action than my Colt SAA's. And I understand how big a statement that is! Smooth as butter. Fantastic.

I have my Dad's second generation SAA in .357 with a 4 3/4" barrel he bought in 1960. It is about the most perfectly fitted and finished revolver I have, even compared to some of the 50's and 60's S&Ws. The only ones I've seen that comes close are the Freedom Arms revolvers.
