I've lived in Columbia for almost 27 years now, its so cool seeing & hearing what people from out-of-town think about Columbia. Gives me a new perspective. So cool. I don't ever see Cola from the sky, the drone shot was awesome.

Yes the drone shot was cool. I was born there and it may be different. I'd say it's alot better than most places just like South Carolina as a whole. Oh by the way we don't really care who likes it or not. Those who don't then you have the right to stay away. No offence now that's just our opinion. Good day.

Outstanding. I dearly miss Columbia. Served there in military for a time, my uncle later opened a large business there employing many. Then my oldest son and then one of his daughters graduated from the University of South Carolina there in Columbia. I have family buried in a church yard there. Oh how I miss Columbia.

Just FYI, they recovered the Hunley a little over 20 years ago and have a museum in Charleston. Also, a little surprised you didn't show Rita the Meter Maid, the Never Burst Chain, and some of the Murals in the downtown area. The nearby Congaree National Park is also a fine place with one of the largest collections of big trees in North America, boasting both state and national champion sized trees. Just so much more than can be covered in a single video, so you'll have to come back.

It's the biggest blackwater on the Eastern seaboard and has many Cyprus trees and knees showing. Depending on the weather some of the walks are hard to get through from flooding and of course be careful because it's full of gators.

Beautiful footage of the Met/Soda city/the capital/Columbia ... Downtown(Main Street) and historical district will always make you feel like the census are skewed.. however, go across the tracks(as old folks would say). You will then understand why the census are they way they are. Most students, when they graduate, will remain in Columbia. I was one of those students, I lived there for years off of North Main. It's always been a beautiful city to me, even in some of the dilapidated areas. It's just something about Columbia. Columbia College is there, they just became a coed college like 2 maybe 3 yrs ago. It was originally a private all girls school. Also, two well-known HBCUs, Allen University and Beniedict. Both colleges were founded in 1870..Allen University was originally named Payne Institute, after its founder, Daniel Alexander Payne. He was an Apostle of black education here in the U.S. Payne Institute was later renamed Allen University in honor of Bishop Richard Allen, founder of the AME Church. Benedict College was founded by Bathsheba A. Benedict, also in 1870, on land of a former 110-acre plantation. Benedict was originally a school for teachers. However, the first classes were taught at an elementary school level bc former enslaved had been prohibited to read and write. Eventually, Benidict was able to insituite its original plan, which was theology, to train and educate the teacher and preacher. Now, both colleges have a broad curriculum. There is so much history here. I could ramble forever.... It's funny that you wanted to get into the church. It's locked! Um yeah🤣🤣 you can only do church tours in Downtown Charleston. And your correct SC was the first to secede, bc Lincoln was newly elected and wanted to abolish slavery, and SC wasn't too ecstatic 'bout that.

The picture in the State House was a depiction of Francis Marion “The Swamp Fox” fighting the British. The construction of the capital building began before the civil war and was shot upon by the union during their campaign, my dad always laughed about how the union ran when they couldn’t knock it down with cannon fire or burn it down. The wooden capital building which stood beside this building was burned completely and destroyed leaving heat marks/stains on the granite. Stars are placed on the east side indicating the cannon ball strikes. 21:23

The University of South Carolina has one of the largest enrollments in America. Many of the students are from out of state. Columbia also has Benedict College and Allen university plus several other small colleges. Too many Americans do not know as much as they should about American cities. Many Americans are geographically challenged. I mean no disrespect by stating this. There appears to be too little study placed on learning geography in the public school system. At least when I attended school. I learned more about geography after I graduated from high school.

Nice seeing the drone shots again. We live about 50 mi east of Columbia. Our city is about 40,000. My wife works about 2 miles from the Statehouse. Behind the Williams Bryce stadium. Columbia is a poor town. Go east or south of downtown and you'll see. Crime is high but most cites here in SC, Columbia and eastward that's how it is. Upstate is much better.Columbia does have some really nice historic areas. Thanks for the great tour! Very well portrayed!

I really enjoyed seeing the SC State Museum again...I have pictures of both the giant shark and the Glyptodont! I also went to Congaree National Monument (it hadn't been designated as a National Park yet), which was very cool. "The Busted Plug" is arguably the least aesthetically pleasing of Blue Sky's work but, when it was first installed it functioned as a fountain. It sprayed water like a damaged fire plug. Did y'all perchance see the "Tunnel Vision" Painting on the wall across the parking lot? That was another Blue Sky piece. Supposedly inspired by the old road runner cartoons ( painting a tunnel on a wall ). At night the sun in the sunset visible through the tunnel glows a soft orange. Years ago before it faded it was quite convincing, people have seen birds attempt to fly into it, and I've even heard of two instances of drunks plowing into " The tunnel" apparently it happened enough for them to put a guard rail in front of it. Anyway, fun video. I'm glad you had a good time in our town.

I enjoyed your most recent episode on Columbia South Carolina, but when you mentioned that you were heading to North Carolina I was shocked that you are totally missing out on downtown Greenville, South Carolina. The historic downtown area has been totally revitalized but they have kept a lot of the character including brick streets and the river that runs through, it's all so beautiful. There are gardens and fountains throughout. if it's not too late, you should backtrack and do that one. I assure you, you and the wife both will love it. You missed the Columbia Art Museum, it is probably one of the best art museums in the South for a city this size.

Born and raised in Columbia, SC, in beautiful Shandon Community. I miss it so much. Love Lake Murray ♥️ Crime is high in areas, but in Parts it's good.

6:46 home prices around most neighborhoods in Columbia are also 40% lower than the national average. There are outliers, like Forest Acres, one of the wealthiest zip codes in America and out on Lake Murray, but starter and retirement homes can still be found for $125-175K.

Thanks for sharing a pretty southern city. Its been a while but we used to go to Columbia regularly, always liked it. Wade Hampton was a should-be-better-known SC leader. Stay safe and away from the interstates (mostly).
