A murder takes place when one restaurant threatens to expose him. Columbo promises to catch the killer of renown cook within 24 hours knowing the killer was in the very same room.

When Columbo says he will have the murderer under arrest within the next 24 hours and then promptly invites you to lunch the next afternoon it is probably a good idea to run as far away as fast as you can.

And with only one eye, no less. We know that, like Peter Falk, Columbo had only one eye because in Season 10 he asked someone to help him to look for something by saying, "Three eyes are better than one." That probably explains his being a lousy shot.

Columbo is so very adorable in this scene and Louis Jourdan is still very attractive, even as he was getting older. I'm surprised, I thought I watched all of the Columbo episodes (excluding the newer ones), but I hadn't. Thank goodness, it's always so nice to discover something new.

Columbo was fully aware of what he was doing. He already suspected the chef as the murderer but he still needed positive proof in the form of the poison used. So when he invited the chef to cook one last meal with him, and once he knew he was Columbo's chief suspect would try to use the same poison on him.

@@alisonwunderland9900 You're kinda right. Not EVERY episode, but I did find this: The first instance of This Old Man comes from Any Old Port In a Storm (Season 3 Episode 2). As the series went on, especially during the reboot, the tune became Columbo's unofficial theme song in the absence of a legitimate theme song. Look it up... it's a fan thing. Listen for it ;)

There's others as well. One he gets berated by a woman who is italian thinking he cant understand her. He then politely introduces himself to her and she starts fawning that it's an italian detective.

Yep, in the 1995 episode "Strange Bedfellows" he doesn't seem to understand Italian. It could just be Columbo acting like he doesn't know the language, otherwise it'd just be a massive oversight.

Columbo often pretends not to know something to gain a tactical advantage. All of his expertise always comes from a brother-in-law, a cousin, his wife, or the boys back at the lab. He makes it seem like he's a complete idiot while teaching himself to be an expert in photography, computers, surgery, chess, or whatever else a case demanded. It's my head-canon that Columbo has a Phd in psychology and mentored a young Bruce Wayne in the art and science of detection.
