I’m new to 40K and seeing the cost of some of these armies was a turn off. Then I found out that the Ultimate starter set comes with 2 combat patrols. This was very appealing. Now my son and I are interested in purchasing different combat patrols to see which faction would be fun to play and build off that.

Shame that they don't scale down the Fate Dice for Aeldari in Combat Patrol - you still get 12 :)

Yeah it's quite silly. You'd think they go down to six or something. Curious to see if they're still busted even in Combat Patrol.

Combat Patrol really seems interesting and run. Definitely favoring the smaller games we used to run in 2nd. Run up the cost of a 1500pt list from second with the 10th list and it averages around 700-800pts.

A shop near me is having a combat patrol tournament. Fun twist, entry is purchase of a random patrol box. Fingers crossed for no Votann!

ok, surprised on the bricky collab. Overall, combat patrols are ok-ish, I see a severe lack of rules for many factions... they are simple, but maybe too simple. Example : The Necron box has 5 units, and the only datasheet ability for them is a -1 damage for the overlord... stratagems are also meh, +1S on melee weapons for 1 unit? is it comparable with shoot and scoot from aeldari? I'm not even worried about the power level, it just doesn't represent the faction well.

Yup, that's fair. Overall it seems like Combat Patrols are mostly made for beginners so the simpler rules help ease them into the more complex ruleset of full size 40k. Very valid point about it not representing the faction well, though. That could be detrimental to new players trying out an army for the first time and not really being able to get a good feel for what an army is like.
