I got hooked on Combat! about to weeks ago. Cannot stop watching it. I served 20 years in the US Armed Forces. I see so much of my own pain in this series. The writers are total geniuses. Makes you wonder how many of them had military experience. I know most of the actors had some but the writers, they had a true handle on the subject. And writers keep a show alive. The episode "LosersCry Deal" brought back a lot of memories. In all walks of life there are phonies but that episode brought a lot of painful experiences back to the forefront that reminded me of the phonies and derelict personalites in the military. I wish, I pray, in these modern times there could be another genre/version of this show. My Father and I watched everyTuesday night without fail.
@normankelley8 жыл бұрын
+Gary Nelson I never served. I grew up watching Combat! and remember some of the stories. I think most of the lead and secondary actors had some military service. The strange thing is that other than Vic Morrow, none of the actors, including Rick Jason, ever did anything substantial after the show. Morrow was the only one and he had been performing before the series. He was in the Blackboard Jungle with Glenn Ford and Sidney Poitier. Morrow died along with two children in the making of the Twilight Zone: The Movie. He was decapitated in a horrific stunt mishap. What made Combat! great was the acting, the neo-realism, and the universal stories of trying to do the right and honorable thing in war but retain one's humanity. It may well have been the best show that came out the 1960s considering that the US was involved in Vietnam during that era.

Bear the reflection of The Very Author of Sacrifice Himself. A Heavenly Valor of which... No man can steal. -Former Sgt. "Rock" 82nd Abn. 1/504 Inf. 71-74 82816

GREAT EPISODE ! I was wondering why they didn't tear down the Nazi flag when they first arrived . That would of been the first thing to do. You have to love the tension around the table when they are all staring at Jackson and say nothing . His guilty conscious was eating at him . That Jackson was a real top noch asshole . In our lives we all at one time or another meet a Jackson . You know the kind they want to be the Alpha , the top dog . They think they know everything and have all the right answers . Just because they talk the loudest they think that gives them the right to push their weight around. Always stay clear from that type else you'll end up like Tommy .
@tonyladokguy8985 Жыл бұрын
Saunders looked at the flag but left it alone. It was very much in character, he was not one for bravado. He probably didn't want his men to become complacent, and kept it there as a reminder of who the enemy was, and that there was still a lot of fighting to do.
@Rahatlakhoom6 жыл бұрын
Vic worked the shots on this one. Excellent!

I like that Saunders doesn't berate Jackson at the end. Jackson is the villain of the piece but you can't help but feel sorry for him at the end. All the men he served with before D-Day were all gone, the last of them dying from a replacement's actions in his mind. In the end, he's not a villain but another victim of war.

You nailed it. And Saunders tells Jackson to fall behind and look after the two green replacements.
@Erick-zp8vm11 ай бұрын
He is still not a good guy Look how Jackson talks down to the other men in squad. You sit right over there... good enough to take your money suckers. He wants to punish Tommy for the rest of his association. Like Saunders said you know how to care of yourself, always looking out for number one! Everyone knows Jackson is a jerk at the end. He is not a team player. The other soldiers look look out for one another. But after they found out how Jackson treated Tommy, rightfully, they want nothing to do with him. He is victim like Richard Nixon was a victim, they brought their problems on themselves. They brought their emotions to the lowest level instead of rising above it.

I love the show ever since I was little and I used to watch it but I didn't realize that they were such good shots not one of them hit the building

Combat vets afraid to tell this guy he's nothing but a punk and to stop trying to bully guys? That would never happen.

Para mí el mejor capítulo de Combate. Muy pocas balas pero harta trama... Morrow como Director tan bueno como actor...

Lord Eden says utter dribble. It's Hollywood entertainment, granted. Shakespeare is done on a stage. That's what this is--a stage.

Vic is going for the "documentary" style of film making with hand held cameras and over the shoulder view of fire fights, something that later directors were credited with, but you seen it here first. Could Spielberg have been influenced by this Tee Vee series?

He was. Saw a doccumentary on the making of Private Ryan. He told his cinematographers he wanted the final battle scene at the bridge to have the look and feel of a Combat episode battle sequence.

Mike Kellin provided a commanding performance with a lot of presence. He was underappreciated as an actor to my estimation. The Combat series was my favorite ever since watching the first episode when I was a kid and am still watching it! The stories always provided some kind of life lesson that is always useful, especially today. Vic Morrow died too young and was one of the best actors ever....miss him.
