If this will get three 18i20 to work together, (giving me 24 channels), this is gonna be a reason for me to buy a mac mini very soon. Ive been wanting to try garageband anyway. I cant always have an engineer here at my studio, so I need a simple daw for nothing but tracking real acoustic drums with mics, vocals, acoustic/electric guitars...etc and also using EZKEYS, or NATIVE'S pianos at the same time. If this trick works, I will no longer need to unplug instruments to plug others in. I love leaving things set-and-forget in the studio.

I have the scarlet 18i.. Can you use ADAT from the scarlet into the MKII quad and be able to send 8 input channels through the Quad processor all clocked?
@dagurgisla1944
@dagurgisla1944 3 жыл бұрын
You can send up to 8 channels at 44.1 or 48 kHz via ADAT, higher sample rates such as 96 will go down to 4 channels. Seems like you should be able to the ADAT connection like you ask but remember to be sure that one interface sources the clock from the other, and that sample rates of both interfaces match.

from my very limited experience of tinkering around with this for the past 2 hours I haven't been able to find a way to accomplish this. There are 16 digital inputs in my Apollo Twin but even when I align 3-10 to ADAT, nothing registers and I have to use the console app from my 18i20 to navigate the Scarlett interface.. man, I think you saved me couple hundred dollars. great video. do you know if connecting several interfaces somehow will affect overall latency. for example I run My UAD at 96, and the minimal latency I got is 2,0ms which Is really nice because I monitor my guitars through the DAW and the less latency I have the more comfortable it is to play. I Pretty sure that Focusrite via USB will have much more latency than Apollo via thunderbolt, I guess that overall latency of combined devices will be equal to latency of the slowest device in the chain. Am I Right ? thank you.

I was trying to set her up in my makeshift vocal booth, but I couldnt do any real sound checking because I only had one set of headphones set up. I really needed to hear her levels, and hear the music, and the mix , but I realized im a dumbass. lol. I have an imac, using logic pro x. I use the Bose t4s interface on my mac. Now if im using that device to monitor sounds, and vocals in the DAW. I was thinking, I could use a second interface in the vocal booth. Would having my focusrite 2i2 in the vocal booth work for the headphone adjustments? No need for the headphone amp? Im going to combine the 2 interfaces by setting up an aggregate device. The reason I want to do this is to connect 4 monitors to my AUDIENT ID 44, and a sub to my Scarlett 2i4. So my question is about volume control, I will be able to control the volume of the sub connected to the Scarlett from the Scarlett, and the volume from the 4 monitors coming out from the AUDIENT at the AUDIENT volume control?

What if one of your interfaces is firewire and the other is either thunderbolt or USB? I only have one firewire input on my mac. My current interface is an Mbox 3 pro (firewire) and doesn't have optical in/outs on it. The Mbox 3 Pro does have two firewire ports on it though. Could you connect another firewire interface there? I just worry that there might be potential clocking/sync issues using multiple interfaces. Could you still use this method combined with using word clock connections between the interfaces to ensure better sync? Thanks.
