This answered my question about needing to still use the software for the old interface. I upgraded from a Profire 2626 to a Clarett 8Pre USB for a lot of reasons, but the biggest one was getting away from Firewire. Now that I know this I'm going to go with the OctoPro 8 so I don't have to worry about that different software but thank you so very much for sorting this out for me!!! I run Protools 12 with the Clarett 8Pre USB with the OctoPre 8 extpansion. I have an ART MPA II, and two DBX 386 going line in. All tubes have been upgraded to get a little more warmth.

Hey Courtney, great I’m glad it helped! Yeah I understand, Saffire mix control is not fun to use! That sounds like a great setup you’ve got. I’m going to be doing a bit more audio gear focussed videos here on the channel. I’ve got some mic comparisons between Shure and Earthworks next week and some interface comparisons after that!

Nice video. However I just learned something yesterday that may help people viewing this video. I called focusrite and was asking about my pro 40 being connected to a new 18i20, after some talking with the guy named Ryan, he informed me that focusrite has a deal going on for people with older devices such as my pro 40. I send in the pro 40 and in turn they give me 50% discount off of a new one. For me the 18i20, at half price. Can’t beat that. Gotta wait a little bit for all the shipping back and forth but I think that a pretty good deal. This is my experience with focusrite as of 11/22/21.

Great vid. Super easy to follow. Turns out I had it reversed. I thought my new RME interface was supposed to be master (it's supposed to have one of the best clocks in the market.) I'm not too happy about sacrificing that but I really do want to take advantage of my LS56's additional channels. Thanks again for the good work.

How should the routing be configured in Focusrite Control to double the number of outputs?

If my plan works, based on this, I'm going to pick up an Audience ID14 (ADAT port) and demote my Pro 40 to OctePre duties in standalone. Great tutorial! Great kit and set up. Thank you. I have 1x Clarett 8pre USB and 2x Liquid Saffire 56's for my drum recording... plenty of mic inputs/ins/outs. I find that the MixControl doesn't always save Sync Source settings when saving to hardware. How do you find it? I will be syncing everything over word clock but sending audio over ADAT... I worry that settings won't save if I have the Clarett + 1x Liquid Saffire set as a slave. Fingers crossed. Still waiting on all the cables to be delivered.

Hey Matt, wow that is an awesome set up you have! Yeah the software isn’t perfect, I have issue when I change the sample rate to 48khz it jumps back to 44.1khz which is quite frustrating. I think your settings should save, let me know how it goes once you have it all set up man!

@@bobdrums so my whole system ended up working fine. 24ins! But yes 44.1 and 48k keeps changing like you said. I think this is because it auto-switches to whatever Logic project is set at. I'm not sure, but it is annoying haha

Awesome man! Yes you’re exactly right, I just realised last week that the reason my interfaces would go out of sync is if the project I open in Logic is not set to the same sample rate as both interfaces. So you don’t have to link the hardware physically, you can run both together in the aggregate device input/output option? I use the aggregate devise set up when doing this.

@@bobdrums Kept referring back to your video and finally got it working! Only 2 elements I cant get fully working and most importantly that is making use of (now) all 4 headphone outputs. You kind of skipped over it a bit in your vid, how did you route the audio from the Clarett into the headphone outs of the Saffire? Equally What I cannot seem to get working is making the now extra x8 outputs work, however it is unlikely I will ever be mixing more than 8 outputs at once back to my mixing desk and outboard equipment, so that is not too much of a problem, Just want to be able to have use of those 4 headphone ports for when recording live with small bands, any help?! Cheers man!
@bobdrums
@bobdrums 3 жыл бұрын
Great! I think your problem is almost the same thing. So to also make use of the headphone outs on my Pro40 I used a 2nd ADAT cable to send a signal from the Clarett to the Pro40. I routed a mix to ADAT 1 and 2 and sent that to the ADAT in of the Pro40. So this and all your outputs can be set in the software. Hope that helps!

ADAT can carry up to 8 channels of audio so if your interface has ADAT out you can connect to anything with ADAT in and configure the routing to route that ADAT input to your outputs. You could potentially get 8 extra analogue outputs.

Hi Bob! Thanks for this video. I have a Focusrite Sapphire Pro 56 and I am going to be hooking it up to my Apollo x 4 via ADAT. I have a question tho.. Let’s say I were to get a new MacBook Pro and the legacy Sapphire software is not supported by it (as you mentioned).. then may I program the Sapphire on my old Mac (who OSX version DOES support it), save the settings to the Sapphire Pro 56’s hardware, and then not have to worry about it again because it has already been configured to connect to my Apollo? To put it short, once the Sapphire is set up, do I need to really access the legacy software interface again? Or are we good?! I hope that made some sense. Thank you!
@bobdrums
@bobdrums 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Gabriel! Yes that’s right, the thing you can change in the software are all the routing and the sample rate. I end up changing my sample rate quite regularly recording for clients so bare in mind if you were to set up and just leave the Saffire you would be locked in to only 1 sample rate.

@bobdrums
@bobdrums 3 жыл бұрын
you can, but SPDIF can only send 2 channels, it's mainly used for outboard processing sending stereo into outboard gear and back. You could connect say a 2 input interface to a larger 8 input interface and have 10 inputs that way, you can't send more than 2 inputs over SPDIF though. Hope that helps!

hi bob, so i ended up buying a new clarett + 8 pre (they have replaced the old line after a few months delay) and have mirrored your exact set up. Its working really well! I didnt expect it to be so stable but it seems like once they are clocked together they stick like this permanently which is great (as long as you dont touch any of the cables). What im finding though, is instead of having inputs 1-8 on the clarett and 9-16 on the saffire, im getting 1-8 on the clarett, 9 & 10 as something and then 11-18 on the saffire. Any ideas what the 9 & 10 are and if i can either disable them, or somehow move them to 17 & 18? It's just a bit confusing as i have 1-16 patched in through an xlr patch bay at the front so i never touch anything around the back and 9 & 10 keep confusing me! Thanks for the help!
@bobdrums
@bobdrums 2 жыл бұрын
@@DanielS10291 That's great, the + series seems like a nice little upgrade! So in your DAW inputs 9-10 would be the SPDIF inputs if you were using those. There's no way to change it but I would suggest creating a template in your DAW that is set up with inputs 1-8 for channels 1-8 and then inputs 11-18 for channels 9-16. Hope that helps!

Does it work on windows? I have Focusrite 18i20 and Tascam 16x08, is it possible to connect those two?
@bobdrums
@bobdrums 2 жыл бұрын
I can’t say for windows as I don’t have a windows machine but it should do because Focusrite have drivers for windows! You need adat to connect then and it doesn’t look like the Tascam has that unfortunately.

Looking to use 2 Saffire Pro 40's to run a total of 16 outs analog to my mixing console. Can i chain them together. If so, how?
@bobdrums
@bobdrums 3 жыл бұрын
You can do exactly that! There are 2 options, either chain them over ADAT or in Dual Unit Mode which would be over firewire. I have a video coming shortly on Dual Unit Mode!

Hey man, how are you? I’ve a studio in Brazil and I’m looking for an interface that gives me 32 I/O. My first option was Presonus Quantum 4848, but I noticed it was discontinued and there’re some people with problems without answers in the company website… Then I discovered Orion 32 + Gen 3, did some research and noticed some people complaining about the company support… Im in Brazil and it’s very expensive to send an unit to be replaced, and it takes time either. So it’s much better if it’s a reliable equipment… Did you ever hear about problems with Orions 32? Now a days I have two VRS 8, but some of their outs are completely failed and they don’t work well together. I really need a solution here! Kkkk My system should be: 32 inputs into the interface, then 32 outs into my analog console (Soundcraft GB8). Do you think Orion is a good choice?

I’m really worried about some cases about unsatisfied customers that are having problems with Orion and Presonus, I’ve never hear something like that about focusrite… what do you think? Thank you!

Yes it absolutely can! You can put the unit in “standalone mode” where you don’t use it with a computer at all support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/206849939-How-do-I-set-up-my-Saffire-or-Scarlett-for-Standalone-Mode-

Do I need to connect both the interfaces to the computer? I have only a firewire port
@bobdrums
@bobdrums 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you do need to connect both interfaces unfortunately. That is only one time for setup however and then you only need to connect your main interface to your computer and leave the other in standalone mode.

@bobdrums
@bobdrums 3 жыл бұрын
@@babunker4028 So you need to connect both interfaces to the computer to set them up, but this could be one at a time. Then you connect the interfaces together. After that you only need to connect 1 interface to your computer to record. Hope that helps!

Hi Aaron, Safire mix control does actually support Big Sur! This is great and hopefully means it will even be supported in future updates. It’s always good practice to check that your software is supported before updating though. Congrats on the new gear!

also noticed my focusrite controller named my adat outputs as adat 1.1 1.2 1.3 and so on rather than adat 1, 2, 3 and so on like yours. i imagine it doesnt matter because i have two adat cables going like yours so i imagine its just tracking both cables. but just thought id mention that for it was the only adnormal part of my process compared to yours. besides only processing through the one focusrite controller for both interfaces.
