Harvest is still happening on the Marks Family Farm. Tractor Time with Tim went to help but ended up getting the Deere 9770 STS in a precarious situation. They planted in the mud and now are harvesting in the mud.

Kind of down these last weeks with the worst harvest conditions my family has seen in many years in North Dakota. Watched tonight's news and heard estimates 60% of corn still left in the fields. Then this video popped up. The verse at the end reminded me that He is there to pick us up when we r down. Also reminded me, all of us have been in rough conditions this year and, I am guessing, most getting stuck in the mud. I sunk the grain cart an unprecedented 6 times during soybeans, cart combine and semi all stuck in one day, carts sliding backwards down frozen hills and cold weather repairs. But we get up again the next day and love what we do. God's blessings and peace to all of you out there in fields. Thanks for making me smile and knowing I am not alone, tractor tim!

Randall and I really appreciated Tim coming down to help us that day and any other time he comes as far as that goes. He had plenty of other things he could have been doing. The combine sliding into that wet hole was no big deal. It's not easy to get fired around here. We might even let him try it again next fall.

Ahhhhh - Stuck, been there many times. One time shelling corn got combine stuck, eventually had 3 big tractors stuck Started about 2 in morning, had to use neighbors tractor to get them all out, we borrowed nearly every chain & cable in the county to reach dry ground. That was 1979 I think when 6600 combine & 8600 tractors were the big green machines in our neck of the woods. Thanks for bringing back the great memories!!!

Funny you mention getting stuck, and we just bought a 92 acre farm that is on low land and I was trying out my plow for the first time with my newly acquired Massey Ferguson 165 and a 3 blade mould plow and came around and got stuck, A week later I thought I will take my F150 out and winch it out, made it out to the tractor but tried to reverse but bottomed out and had to get a neibor with a 4 wheel drive tractor to save my ass! he also not also pulled out the F150 to safety but went out and pulled my tractor and plow out back to my shop in Ontario Canada and I will never drive in a wet field again ! thankyou Jim Smith Ramara Ontario

I don't know farming stuff, I come from a trucking background. I saw a tractor sitting idle in the background that could have been daisy chained on the front of the main puller. May have made the pull easier. You see the heavy hauls that have more than one front puller a lot of times. Glad you got it out in the end though 🙂

Tim, my family that farms in southeast Missouri has also been battling mud. I talked to my cousin yesterday. He said that he had finally gotten the last if the peanuts that he could get. He said that less than 10 acres were lost, but they were in areas that are just too much mud. He also said he should have been done a month or more ago and that was still late. It has been a rough year to year and half for wet ground in lots of our nation.
@coypatton3160
@coypatton3160 4 жыл бұрын
Peanuts are a different crop. I was raised with cotton, corn and soybeans. For peanuts, they dig them, let them dry with the vines down nuts up. Then pull a ‘combine’ with a tractor at less than 1.5 mph. They unload similar to the JD combine into a special ‘peanut wagon’ hopper which raises up to dump the peanuts into a semi trailer. Very different from any other crops in this area.

Reminds me of hauling sugar beets from piling grounds. We locked in the power divider and with the automatic transmission trucks put the shifter in manual mode. But a couple of places the contractor set up shitty with slope back into the pile instead of away from the piles. But we had a rather large loader to yank us out. Fun times... working for a commodity hauler whose only care in the world was keeping the sugar refinery stocked and running..

You might want to look into Yankum Kenetic recovery ropes to possibly make getting things unstuck a little easier and possible safer than using chains. @@TractorTimewithTim it could've happened, but it just would've been the nature of the year. We all have those "if I would've" moments. Just matters what we learn from them. A year or two ago I learned not to go across grass waterways with a fully loaded hopper. lol & we did have to pull our grain truck because of an inch or 2 of wet ground on the surface. & then the mower tractor slid in like your combine did. Wasn't nearly as hard to pull out & was after harvest, so I don't count that. lol

Tim I'm not sure what the technical name of the strap is but you guys need to invest in that strap that flexes as you pull then the recoil yanks the combine out. You basically start pulling from directly behind the combine. The strap is a good 30 feet or so in length. As you pull at top speed eventually the strap pulls tight and the recoil is what yanks the combine out. Our neighbor farmer down the road introduced us to it. I thought I was going to go flying over the tractor when the strap pulled tight but it worked just as our neighbor said it would.

'93 might have been the year we dumped the combine on each end and only filled our gravity wagons 2/3 full to keep everything lighter in the mud. My dad pulled them to a driveway at the edge of the field then we swapped and I took it home to unload.
