Don't listen to these fools in the comments questioning your judgement on reacting to this song. Granted, it's not for everyone but this song was a huge hit in the UK back in 82' and it was the bands second #1 single and it was the biggest selling song of 82 in the UK. It deserved a listen.

@@josephbrowning4220 It indeed hit #1 in the US in April 83. Upon some research I was surprised to see this song prevented Michael Jackson from having back to back #1 singles with Billie Jean and Beat It as it landed right in between those to take that spot.

Seems like people either love this (me) or hate this (my wife). To me, it's timeless musical fun!

I hear this song and a lifetime of wedding receptions and church hall parties flash through my head. Nobody really knows all the words but when the chorus hits the dancefloor goes nuts. Its classic 80s cheese and its a wonderful thing. 1 of about 20 songs i can't not dance to😅

This was our holiday song of '82. Was hard to get it out of my head at the time. Some ten years later I'd bump into Kevin Rowland from time to time in a particular Soho bar/club. He is English, of Irish parentage.

Don’t think I’ve ever been to a wedding in the last 30 years that this hasn’t been played. And packed out the dance floor. 😋

I met these guys at a Denny's in Syracuse New York just before this song became a hit. I was a bus boy and they came in late one evening, tour bus parked outside. They were traveling south from Montreal. I went to school the next day, and no one recognized the name. Two weeks later, Come On Eileen launched up to the top of the MTV and billboard charts. I told other kids and they said, "They wouldn't eat at Denny's." I laughed at them saying, "Even stars on tour love pancakes."

🤗 This song jammed in NYC Clubs in it's time. Dexy just played America (NYC) for the first time in 30yrs and this brought da house down! 🥰 So fun! Kevin is Touring with a new Dexy Album. 🤯 The new stuff is AMAZING! 🤔 Wish they double billed with 🚫 Men Without Hats! 😏 I could definitely add Gene Loves Jezebel and sell that 80's MTV Tour.😂 Im dead serious too! 😁🥰🐰

"Dexys" was Dexedrine, an amphetamine that was very popular in the U.S. and Britain in the 80s. It was sold as a diet drug, so it was everywhere.
