This was written by Ex-Cincinnati Bengal All Pro Defensive End Mike Reid. He left the NFL in his Prime because he didn't want to mangle his hands (Pianist). In 1984, Reid won a Grammy Award for Best Country Song with "Stranger in My House", which was recorded by Ronnie Milsap. Reid would also contribute compositions to artists such as Marie Osmond, Tanya Tucker, Collin Raye, Alabama, and Conway Twitty other than Raitt. People laughed when he retired. I was born and raised in Cincinnati and at the time we all thought he was a certified idiot. We were the idiots.

Her father John Raitt was a legendary Broadway actor and singer with a booming baritone. Bonnie first made a name for herself in the early seventies for her astonishing voice, slide guitar chops and deep love and knowledge of blues music. She was part of the community of singers and musicians who made Laurel Canyon their home. She never became the megastar that many of her companions did in the 70’s and 80’s and for a time it looked like she would never achieve the stardom her talent and peer hype thought she would. But then came the album “Nick of Time” which “I Can’t Make You Love Me” is off of. The album was a monster success selling in multiple millions and virtually sweeping the Grammys. She is now rightfully considered a legend.

Bruce Hornsby has such a distinctive way of playing the piano. There's a confidence behind each note, which isn't to say that he just bangs away on the keyboard. He plays with nuance. It's like the music flows directly out of fingers and they just know exactly what to do. His music with his band (The Range) is definitely worth checking out.

Bruce Hornsby on the piano. There’s a really good live performance of this song with Bonnie and Bruce floating around on YT which is well worth checking out. But PLEASE more Bonnie! Her catalog is very deep, and she won a Grammy last year ( her 13th, I believe ). Also one of the best bottleneck slide players around.

Now they got to do "The Way It Is" or "Mandolin Rain" by Bruce Hornsby (who played piano on the track). "The Way It Is" will likely be another "I Got The" moment.

Bonnie's first album debuted in 1971, "Angel from Montgomery" will always be one of my favorite songs.

I had all of her albums. Saw her in concert twice. She was practically the only girl playing electric guitar. Started at the clubs near Harvard. She played with all the best musicians of the day. One old bluesman said some play blues but she would get lost in the blues. She sang Bessy Smith, homage to great black blues singer. One of the best of our generation. A true musician. And she was beautiful.

I only saw Bonnie Rait once, when she opened for Eric Clapton on the Cradle Tour. She just shredded the guitar solos and got a well deserved standing ovation at the end. I still recall her telling the crowd before she left the stage, “ you people are in for a real treat tonight with Eric, it’s going to be guitar heaven up here”. She was right, but it was guitar heaven listening to her as well

She’s a phenomenon! Got to see her in concert a dozen or so years ago on Jackson Browne’s birthday and she did one of his songs. She was personable and delivered a perfect performance. One of the best artists and most respected artists.

In my Top 5 female musicians. Her slide dobro work is so good over many years, and her voice is so sweeet with a touch of raspy! And her old John Prine covers are a constant friend.

Bruce Hornsby on the keys. He is a fantastic piano player that had some great hits in the 80's and 90's. He also played piano with the Grateful Dead in the early 90's. Check out Bruce Hornsby and the Range song "The Way it Is" or "Mandolin Rain". And as always live Grateful Dead in 1991 and 1992 if you want to hear him with the Dead.

Bonnie's one of the great slide guitarists, as recognized by other blues greats. She's also a terrific singer. Her voice is immediately recognizable and she knows _exactly_ how to use it. She's a musician.

Bonnie Raitt has been one of my idols for decades. Along with her bluesy vocals I love her slide guitar playing, which is not featured on this particular song. That's Bruce Hornsby playing piano on this. She has worked with him a lot over the years. Another song of hers I really love is Love Me Like a Man. That song just rocks out for me. She has a very long repertoire of music! Some of my other faves of hers are Love Sneakin up on You, Women Be Wise, Love Has No Pride, Angel From Montgomery, Need You Tonight, Thing Called Love, Longing in their Hearts.... Well, hell, just about everything she's ever done! Lol You can't go wrong with Bonnie!

'Reaches right around your heart and just SQUEEZES. 'Not a hateful goodbye, just so sorrowful. Lamentful resignation. Bonnie Raitt is a wonderful vocalist; i love her phrasing. She's so, so soulful. She also plays a fairly wicked slide guitar. Maybe give this song a try: Something to Talk About live version. I enjoyed your reaction. The piano is Bruce Hornsby, btw.
