Hi As Mom, I never really thought about what you physically do at work. We only think about what nurses do in each room, mostly take virals. Thank you for what you do to help each patient.

I can do that! I'd love to be able to film more actual hands-on but it's super difficult if not impossible for privacy. I'll see what I can do :)

Hats off to you for staying in the cold OR that long lol Which area of nursing did you like better?

@@travelnursediaries If you're scrubbed, you have a heavy gown on and you're under the light. If you're circulating, you're probably running around. In both cases, you love the cold! Also, you get used to it, unbelievably. I worked in the OR about ten years and I loved it more than anything I've done before or since. It was more like play than work. Ironically, they kept pushing me to go to college--I graduated from a three-year hospital program that was transitioning to a college program, and I was given a lot of credits from a various liberal arts colleges. The one I attended didn't have nursing, and, at the time, I would have had to start from about the second year in a college nursing program. So I majored in English and had 40 undergrad credits in English. When they caught up with me, they made me graduate and guided me to a PhD program in English (from a BA--that was a trip). The next year, my chair got me a job teaching college English and I did that for 35 years. I wound up as a professor of English. Yes, I'm older than God, but all that air conditioning kept me looking young lol. I got married at 38, daughter at 40, am now retired (after the third round of breast ca, which did me in) and am bored as hell. I still dream about the OR. I worked between recovery and ICU for a couple of years before the OR. I liked recovery and was good at ICU and loved the drama, but got an ulcer there. Too much stress and understaffed--you know. You would get rid of a lot of grief in the OR. It cannot be understaffed because you need two people to do a case. If you don't have two people, there's no case. The OR is the one place where you're really independent if you're competent, and most RNs I've known have been competent. That's also the reason I liked college teaching--it's like the OR--no one wants the details as long as you produce results. You seem like a free spirit, as I've been. Sorry this message is so long. Best and loving wishes.
