Enjoyed the ride-along, even though it was a scorching hot day for y'all. No pity from me, though. I'm in San Antonio, Tx and we've had 100 degree days over the past week or so. Dog Days of August! Recommendation for the surface rust on the steps and also on the frame- I used Cosmoline RP-342. It comes in a spray can. You can use a small plastic bristle toothbrush with some 3in1 oil to remove the rust gently without removing the finish. then spray the Cosmoline onto a sponge and apply over the bar. Try and keep it off of or a light coat where feet make contact on the step. The Cosmoline will dry into a thin wax, and will resist weather. I used Cosmoline RP-342 on my frame to prevent rust. Where I live we have long winters, and salt is now used on the roads seasonally. The Cosmoline will attract dust, though after 2 seasons- no rust. Also be advised: Keep the Cosmoline off of areas of high heat- engine, and exhaust system.

I'm pleased to see that you continue to enjoy getting away and getting off the road in your Tacoma; Those views of the desert are really beautiful, I think you should buy a drone and in this way, those trips and your videos we would enjoy even more; To prevent the stirrup from rusting, I suggest you remove it, remove the rust, apply anti-corrosion material and paint it again before installing it again; Those fog lights look great, even in daylight; keep surprising us Chloe !!!

Awesome Julian pie! Try La Posta Truck Trail. From Sunrise Hwy go south onto OldHwy 80 just east of Pine Valley about 6 miles. Then go north on La Posta TT. Nice truck!

Chloe, I could be wrong but I believe your running boards are connected to the vehicle's body providing no protection. Go with something like ARB sliders which mount to the frame providing protection to the vehicles sheetmetal.

Nice video. I love desert trails. Not sure if you already got advice on those step rails but you really need to change them to some proper rock sliders if you don't want to get stuck on some knarly rocks.

Hey Chloe, with respect to the surface rust you're noticing appear on the N-Fab rails, if you like the look & function of them, and want to keep them, but don't want to deal with the return of rust, a good idea might be to have them bed-lined by a place like Line-x. On my H1 I had the same thing every season on my brush-guard, and I finally just had it done by the local bed-liner shop, and it has a dimpled textured look (not too aggressive) and the rust has yet to return, and that was years ago. The more prep you do, typically the cheaper it will be for the shop to spray them, so I would recommend, at the very least, unbolting them from the truck to take to them yourself. If you're comfortable with it, sanding them down would be a good next-step, but some people hate sanding/sand blasting (myself included). The benefit to having a Line-X shop do the work as opposed to buying a rattle can of XYZ off-the-shelf bed-liner is that the spray-application systems that a shop has will heat up the spray to a high temperature, enabling a much better bond & longer lasting application. Shop around, if you have options, as you may find pricing varies from one shop to the other, and some shops may cut you a deal if you are willing to leave the rails with them for a week or two until they have a big job lined up where they can just spray your rails on the side, instead of incurring all the setup costs you may face if you have them done independently. Obviously Black will be the cheapest/easiest color to obtain, but many shops also offer color tinting as well if you want a matching color, but then you may not have the ability to have your rails squeezed in & sprayed when another bigger job is lined up. 👌👍 P.S. Cody is miffed you didn't bring him back any Pie!!! 😊

paint them while the rust is still just a little..it can be clean easy some base paint and a a little 3 coats of can paint..you can do it at home

If you get sliders, look into Fabrication companies near your location. Simply because shipping costs are usually about $200 to ship vs picking them up locally. TacomaWorld is a good source.

You should most definitely do sliders but tbh they're really expensive for some reason(For 05+ Tacoma's).. probably demand but yes any rock sliders would do as long as they're bolt on and made from DOM(most likely since HREW doesn't bend that well)

I have N Fab rails also. There ok but not as cool looking or functional on trails as real rock sliders. I’ll be switching those out eventually. Other plans are getting rid of stock suspension with spacer lift kit and going kings 2.5 with remote reservoir front and back. And of course prinsu roof rack with lights. Oh yeah front bumper with wench and lights. It’s endless.

Otay Truck trail, much closer, not as hot and vastly better views, it's a gorgeous trail up a mountain! Good number of government vehicles use the trail, unlikely to ever be left stranded even if you go by yourself. Lots of Tacoma groups go there.
