I bought my 2020 Tacoma with the same round tube steps. They are definitely more decorative than functional in my opinion. I know eventually I want to do something else but I’m not sure what yet so I’m glad you’re a few steps ahead of me so perhaps you give me some good ideas. Thanks!

That will always happen with powder coat. The steps will flex somewhat, which will cause cracking over time and then water to enter them. You need something flexible, like bedliner to prevent this on steel steps or rock rails.

I’m from North Carolina, I think you would really like the trails out on the east coast over here. My Tacoma came with the raptor step up bars from the factor ( similar to the ones you removed) and at stock ride height I never use them. Maybe worth having them after a lift. Love the vids

If you like the steps on the tube bars, Toyota makes the Predator tube steps bar which bolt on using the mounting holes that already are on 2016-2021 Tacomas. They have an Electro-Deposition coating and that is coated with a Black Powder coating. I’ve had mine on my 2021 TRD Sport since August of last year. They have taken some rock chips to the powder coat but the other coating remains intact. I live in Wyoming where the locals use salt on the ice and snow covered roads in the winter. No rust on these Predator bars anywhere. I plan on using flat black spray paint to touch up the rock chips before the winter this year. I like the steps in the bar because my leg doesn’t rub when getting in and out like regular running boards do. These step tubes will still protect your truck with their tube bars and the steps provide a good way to scrape off mud and debris from your shoes/boots. Also you don’t want to be sliding off the seats and onto to ground when getting out of your truck. This breaks down the bolster in the seat and cause pricey rebuilds. They are pricier than the other brand steps but they are built way better. Great video and channel as always Cloe!

I had those on my 2016 Tundra TRD Pro. I now how the RCI Sliders with kick out and 45 slant and top plate on my 4R TRD Pro. They are starting to rust though also because I live in NY. Instead of getting powder coat I would just get bare and spray it myself since they need touching up anyways every few years.

Get 0-5 degree sliders with fill in plates and then you can use them as steps as well. I think CaliRaised makes a decent set of bolt-ons. Also, don't forget to plug up the holes from the bolts you just took out! You don't want water getting up in there and rusting your body out. From the factory they just have plastic bolts that screw in there, you could find the part numbers for them and order them, or just use something else.

Indiana, definitely replace the bolts on the truck. Those originally came with basic plastic screw in plugs. Once bolts were added, the potential for rust increases with the paint coming off the threads or water/moisture inside through the void left where the bolts mounted.

At the dealership on the window build sheet they have what is called The XP predator package that is not a factory build. It’s a few cheap items that the dealership puts on and charge way too much. Decals and steps mounted to the body, maybe some other junk. They actually sell them.

I'm from New Mexico I've got my sliders, next mod for me is skid plates. As for sliders, you can't go wrong with cbi or rci sliders. If the your manufacturer choice offers it, get a top plate for Cody and definitely get the kick out. I like the kick out as it helps as a step to get inside the bed from the side of the truck; from slider to tire to inside of the bed. A kick out helps save your tire from a puncture on the sidewall.

Howzit! Formally from Hawaii now in Vegas. One of the very first mods on my Tacoma was the NFab Nerf bars. I ended up getting rid of them as well and ordered the CBI offroad rock sliders. I opted for the bolt on since I heard its just as strong as the weld on ones. But u have the ability to remove them when needed to surface paint or recoating. Or if u ever want to put the truck back to stock form. Whereas weld is on a permanent level. Kick outs offer the ability to push aside obstacles and guide your truck safely away from them. It also acts as an extra step if u ever have items u need to access on the roof of your cabin. Granted u have a roof rack. I however went with the non kick out since I wanted a more stream line look. Lead times for these can range from 6-8 weeks. Longer if u have them coated or painted. I placed my order back in September of this year and should be expecting them by middle December. You might be lucky to find some used ones online. Or check with other dealers that might already have them in stock. 3rd gens are the more popular ones. I have a 2nd gen. Good luck Chloe and as always. Keep up the great content! Alohas!

Trust me. It wasn't easy. Took me almost a year to decide to pull the trigger. The main key factors were protection not just from the trails but also against door dings. When parked in a stall and another vehicle carelessly flings their doors against urs. Oh and if ur truck is lifted. The factory lift jack might not be able to do the job when it was at stock height. Thats where the "Hi Lift" jack comes in. Rock sliders are great lift points for the truck when using Hi Lift. Thats another investment to consider.

With that said, mine are from Mobtown Offroad. They have the fill plate and kickout. I primed and painted myself to save some $$. They work well as a step, too. But they are heavy.
