It has been a wet and cool Spring for me in Zone 7B, but the garden is good shape and patiently awaiting warm weather. So in today's video, you're going to come with me for a June Garden Tour and I'm going to share with you: 5 things that are exciting me in the garden, 3 flops or fails I've already experienced, and 1 thing I'm going to do differently for next season!
1/4" Drip Tape Brand: Agrifim. Their website is agrifim.usa but their website isn't even loading, so, I'm not quite sure how to point you in the right direction for this one! But, I do love their 1/4" drip line with 6" emitters!

I grow strawberries beneath my asparagus as well. The bed also has catnip, horseradish, sage, dill, rhubarb and culantro. Everything comes back each year. Its my favorite bed

I appreciate that you are honest with the "behind the curtain" realities. The empty container pile is so true.

Asparagus companions: we plant tomatoes, basil and strawberries (perrenial) - supposedly it helps with deterring asparagus beetle. Our asparagus is thriving... :) Also - because we create a "wrap" with string to keep the asparagus from falling over - it also doubles as a trellis for the tomatoes. Editing to add that I also plant zinnias, calendula, lettuces all in the asparagus (it takes up four rows in our garden) :)

Companion plants for the asparagus are spinach, beets, lettuce, peas, carrots,cucumbers even strawberries.👀😁 The hard neck garlic is looking nice, my favourite as to the onions. If you wish to leave a few scapes on the garlics and onions to form seeds from flowers for seed saving replanting. The issue with your blueberries is may be due to the soil being to alkaline they like a slightly higher acidic soil😁🇦🇺

Acidify the soil PH 4.5-to 5, and mulch your blueberries with 100% wood sawdust,

Something I’ve come to know after fighting the same thing with my blueberries. You have to treat them like peppers. They like being pruned when overwintering just like peppers. Pruning them back lets them put on all new growth which is where the berries come from. Plus acidity of soil is always a thing but what really did it for me (finally) was pruning. I notice it branches and puts out new growth just like a pepper, so that how I think of it now and have seen better success with them.

Great tip! I also did not get a single flower this year. I was thinking that it was the mild winter (zone 4 in Canada), but perhaps pruning is the key! More like grapevines then.

I put chives in with the asparagus. I just started blueberry bushes this year. I'll keep an eye on the comments to make sure I know what happens. Can't wait to see the garlic experiment. I plant mine about 4 inches in zone 5 Illinois. Great video 👍🏼👍🏼

Have you thought about some cross-bracing for the trellises? I’m thinking of windy days when they could put a lot of stress on the planters.
@MindandSoil
@MindandSoil Ай бұрын
It's a good q! I've trellised my tomatoes vertically like this all of the past years and haven't had any issues yet, none of them have snapped. If that does happen though then at that point I'll definitely consider adding a bit more support for future seasons

Blueberry bushes like acidic soil maybe you need to use a fertilizer that controls the acidity

Question: Where did you get the irrigation kit? Thanks in advance! 😅
@MindandSoil
@MindandSoil Ай бұрын
That's a good q! I Started with the Lee Valley Raised bed Gardening Kit. That was a really good "intro" to help familiarize myself with all things irrigation. Now I buy a lot of the components individually from places like Lee Valley, Amazon, and a few local irrigation shops :)

Oh man great eye! So the brand is called Muck Boots. They reached out to me a few months ago to trial some of their boots and I've actually ended up totally loving them. All their boots are 100% waterproof and I really like the look of this model, the Apex. They're one of only 3 brands that I actually partner with haha. Here's a link to their website and if you use the code mindandsoil10 you'll get 10% off your order. www.muckbootcompany.com/

@@JAM_316 Ah jealous you got the Zips! They didn't have them in my size! But, I did just get a pair of the Outscape Chelsea's and am loving them as well. They don't have laces which is my preference given that my hands are always covered in dirt when I leave the garden haha
