You see..Frank nailed it...people that get offended over anything have ruined comedy. These guys did funny stuff to make people happy. Now it’s impossible to not hurt someone’s feelings.

This is actually kind of a sad interview. I hope Frank can find a way to keep himself happy. I always want to hear his impressions but it’s because he never fails to bring a smile to my face. The guy has such a unique gift. I hope he knows how much his fans love him.

Eh, it's not sad. People grow and change and he's been doing this for a decade and he has the outlet or frame of mind to admit to himself how he feels before he comes crashing down. Good for him and hope he finds his fun, because people can sense when someone isn't having fun and that's unfun and that's what it's all about.
@petec6727

What he's uneasy about is his audience and reactions (social media tirades). Most comedians today have same feeling. They're unsure how material will be spun and taken...from today's "snowflakes." Sad indeed.

Best take I’ve seen on Frank in a long time. I honestly think that he’s afraid of “cancel culture” and losing his ability to feed his family. Sad, but if he keeps true to himself, he’ll be OK.

I think his description of twitter as saying something guttural without having to deal with another person's immediate response basically describes people's social media addiction. I'm introspective enough, right now I'm able to complete my full thought and for the most part I'm going to get a positive response, an over-the-top negative response I can ignore, or no response. It can come across as angry or self-absorb because it's so personally freeing at little cost.

I think Caliendo's act is getting tired, but what I love about DP is he really brings to light the challenge these types of comics face. Where does Frank go? He's talented but has to re-create himself all the time. DP show brings that to the light when most videos of Frank wouldn't illustrate that.

Agreed. And good on Frank for realizing his act is getting tired... he's a smart guy, clearly he's getting antsy and knows he needs to evolve. Good luck to him figuring out where to go in this polarized comedic climate......

"I don't like to take sides"...."I could never be mean"....GOOD. how refreshing! FINALLY someone who is incredibly talented and funny...AND doesn't have to be a nasty, pompous ahole jamming their political agenda down our throats to do it (are you listening kimmel, maher, ad nauseam...). hell that's borderline miraculous in this day and age. keep on with where you're at Frank, and thank you for simply focusing on funny, not self-righteousness. what a concept. that USED to be the norm in entertainment. now coming across it is like buying a winning lotto ticket. you know it exists, but never see it. this is one of the most talented people in entertainment today. I just hope against hope the business doesn't either ruin him (one way or the other) or cause him to say "screw it" and retire, or even semi-retire. not that I'd blame him.

People have become very polarizing and it's easier to be negatively polarizing because you can feint that things just roll off your back. Everyone knows they're exist this grey area, but to admit it is too be boring and there's nothing worse for self-esteem than being boring.

Billy West (probably the greatest voice-over actor in the country... next to Tom Kenny) scolded another voice-over actor (Maurice LaMarche) for claiming that his (Maurice LaMarche's) characters sounded like each other (specifically Morbo and Lrrr from Futurama). Dan Patrick did that to Frank Caliendo throughout this interview and it only made him very self-conscious and prevented him from riffing. That's a REAL bad quality in an interviewer. Caliendo is one of the greatest impressionists of our time. His G.W. Bush is exquisite.

I'd like to ask Frank and other impressionists if there's just TOO many voices today in media. Back in the 70s there was maybe 5 go-to voices to last the decade. Nixon, Burns, Benny, Stewart, and Wayne. 80s maybe expanded to 10 with Reagan, Cosby, Murphy, Perrot, and Nicholson. 90s a good twenty to draw from, and today it seems like 40, but have such a limited shelf life. Frank does a great Bush, but somehow saying 'i plan to rocketize NASA further with more intensified fundations' just doesn't have the same umph as Rich Little always going for that Nixon I'm Not A Crook bit.

I'm glad frank lost weight that's never a bad thing in life. I sense a little bitterness when people don't understand him. His jokes are still funny but it's a chain reaction of him reacting poorly to others and then it lowers his quality and energy. He's just gotta be himself. Also his Trump impression should be retired because there's no magic in neither the impression nor his character. His Bill Walton and Barkley are godlike. He's gotta just go back to basics instead of thinking about evolving.

That's the problem with impressions because you have to keep making new ones and as you get older you are not on point as before. KZfaq took this guy out if business meaning on KZfaq you can see people you are taught inpressonism by God himself and that can be sad to see. He even said it at the beginning. I hope he reinvents himself. He should follow acting.

It's the character he/SNL created. Just like Frank said here, you can either go for dead on or you can go for the caricature of the impression. That's what Baldwin is doing, and that's why so many people love it. Will Ferrell's Bush impression was pretty bad too, but everyone loved it because it became its own character.

Frankie you sound lost. Take the advice of Howard Stern, of all people, who's been in radio since 1977. While Stern has evolved over the years, he's in the perfect forum, radio, to do so. And he's done it slowly and thoughtfully. But he's always advised people who have a successful movie character or TV show to milk it for all it's worth, because it's a million to one against that happening for you. You, on the other hand, are an impressionist. Get back to your roots. Forget about this political climate, it's meaningless in what you do, which is impressions. If you want to get out of the business and go do something else in life, then fine. But if you've found a winning formula, milk it forever. You're not an actor, or a singer. You're a brilliant impressionist. And another thing. No one cares about Barkley or Gruden. Drop them like hot potatoes. I mean how many times can you say Turrible? Not funny. Madden was brilliant but remember, he was seen by millions of people over 20, 25 years on CBS and Fox. How many people have heard Jon Gruden? Please. You're a brilliant mainstream impressionist, get some new ones going and go play Vegas for crying out loud. Or get out. See, not that complicated. You sound completely lost now and take forever to say nothing. That's not the guy I know. I'm rooting for you, because I'm a huge impressionist fan. I was listening to David Frye records, doing Nixon, in the late 60s.
