That's a very romantic way to see it but the truth is there's no way Tarantino would throw it in the bin if Waltz didn't appear and take the part. It was too good of a script to get rid of it. @BillyReed68 I would have to agree that he balances brilliance and sincerity with sociopathic and evil very well. It's interesting that he turned down all previous Nazi character roles and only took Inglorious Basterds because the Hans Landa character was genius and really spoke to him. Ironically, that is the role that really put him on the map. Christoph's subtle mannerisms and gestures are suited perfectly for an evil genius, especially one cast by Tarantino.

Jerry, you should read The World of Yesterday by Stefan Zweig. He was jewish, born in Vienna in 1880. Vienna was the centre of the cultural world around 1900. Then the Germans started their propoganda which led to World War I and eventually to World War II. It was the worst time for human kind and especially for jewish people. A must-read for understanding why one generation went through two World Wars and an economic crises. Zweig couldn't take it anymore and committed suicide, I think, in 1944. His beautiful, progressive, cultural Vienna was completely destroyed. And Zweig's dream of a united Europe with it.

One of the best episodes, from my point of view. They always do the cuts between stories. The stories are just shorter with someone that can communicate so much with every sentence. Very interesting to see Jerry adapting to his guests, especially the ones he doesn't know yet.
