That's a very romantic way to see it but the truth is there's no way Tarantino would throw it in the bin if Waltz didn't appear and take the part. It was too good of a script to get rid of it. He says things with such serenity and straight face you have to wonder if he is being serious or not. His Hans Landa character was so terrifying because he was so authentic on an entirely new level. I left the theater believing, THAT must have been what it was like to be in front of a real SS officer in 1939. A totally complete psychopath. You could hear a pin drop from the back row in a packed house during the entire opening scene of Inglorious Bastards. I have never felt anything like it before, or since. I love that man. ...Well, as much as one man who doesn't know the other personally can.

Most SS officers were just primitive, uneducated guys, some were even kicked out of former jobs due to violent behaviour but encouraged to join this government agency dedicated to persecute and murder people exactly because of it. Nothing sophisticated or James Bond villain-like about them. CW only played this role because he could give that particular weird twist.

This show of Jerry's seems to have been around for at least a decade... but I've not seen one episode until just now. This was superb. It was rich! w/ sarcasm and the smooth, Austrian humor of one rather unique Austrian, Mr. Christof/ph Wal/t/z. Vienna considers itself the cradle of coffee culture with an vast variety of preparations and the coffeehouses were hotspots of arts and science up till at least WW II. The imperial times might be gone, the attitude is still there. And not to mention the pastries. It's a whole world out there...

@BillyReed68 I would have to agree that he balances brilliance and sincerity with sociopathic and evil very well. It's interesting that he turned down all previous Nazi character roles and only took Inglorious Basterds because the Hans Landa character was genius and really spoke to him. Ironically, that is the role that really put him on the map. Christoph's subtle mannerisms and gestures are suited perfectly for an evil genius, especially one cast by Tarantino.

Jerry, you should read The World of Yesterday by Stefan Zweig. He was jewish, born in Vienna in 1880. Vienna was the centre of the cultural world around 1900. Then the Germans started their propoganda which led to World War I and eventually to World War II. It was the worst time for human kind and especially for jewish people. A must-read for understanding why one generation went through two World Wars and an economic crises. Zweig couldn't take it anymore and committed suicide, I think, in 1944. His beautiful, progressive, cultural Vienna was completely destroyed. And Zweig's dream of a united Europe with it.

I have seen a few 507's and had no idea of the limited production,.. they where known to easily overheat,... but its just an absolute masterpiece ! cant imagine owning this and a Mercedes Gullwing from the same year... two of my favorite vehicles ever built. oh and the two personalities also in this Video. aint bad either

One of the best episodes, from my point of view. They always do the cuts between stories. The stories are just shorter with someone that can communicate so much with every sentence. Very interesting to see Jerry adapting to his guests, especially the ones he doesn't know yet.
