"I remember both of us just playing off each other and improvising and riffing, and they used one of those takes, showed it in the movie, and people were talking about me. And they were saying like 'Oh this guy steals the movie,' and everything, so that was a very important thing." The movie that Gilbert Gottfried is describing is “Beverly Hills Cop II” and this scene stealing cameo was opposite Eddie Murphy; in what was a definitive moment in Gottfried’s career.

Rejected and fired over and over again for his brand of comedy. He is an original, different entertainer. His comedy, no matter how many people found it offensive, should be free to flourish and make our lives happier.

Gilbert must be protected. He's a precious gem in the world of comedy. He has a gift, he can make you laugh so hard that you make no sound. He is legendary.

I wrote a defense of him on twitter when wendy williams attacked him for 9/11 saying you will be remembered for jokes and the humor you brought to people. He actually responded saying thank you. Sadly I did not see it till recently, as I don't read things on twitter much, after his passing. A great man.

If you had told me back when I was watching USA up all night in 1987, that Gilbert Gottfried would be considered one of the top comedians of his day in 2019, I would have been very confused to say the least. But as it turns out, what I didn't know, was that long before USA up all night Gilbert Gottfried was one of the country's top comedians. You live and you learn. Gilbert is a National Treasure and he must be preserved in formaldehyde so that others may study him in strange and disturbing ways for years to come.

He did not look well the last few years of his life, he really aged. I think getting fired by the insurance company really hit him hard due to losing a decent paying gig. And he was still shlepping all over the country to do comedy gigs which took a lot out of him. He was great, I always liked his act, we saw him at a comedy club and i laughed so hard. He had a nice devoted wife and two wonderful children, i hope they are well. RIP Gilbert

Unquestionably the best, most original, and funniest man EVER. Gilbert was a national treasure. I sure miss him, because I'm afraid the comedians coming in are going to be too wrapped up in Hollywoodesque, politically correct B*llshit. God bless Gilbert, and wherever he is, I know he's making 'em laugh.

Back in my day... Men would wear ties. They would tie it around their neck if they were wearing a suit... It was a way that men would dress up. With a tie. Because back then... People would want to look nice for a job... Or a date... And they would do that with a tie...
