Sukhdeep Singh, the founder-editor of Gaylaxy Magazine, shares his coming out story - coming out in an Engineering College in 2009, the reactions he received. His friends from college too share what they thought at that time, and the effect that the 2009 Naz Judgement decriminalising Section 377 and homosexuality in India had on them in accepting him.

Proud to say he was my batch-mate. I remember how fast he used to be at playing anagram at DC++. I did use to get a bit sad to see how he used to wear an activist’s hat at every topic on Facebook. But looking back, I feel I can understand. Also, I feel Sukhi will agree that our batch loved him even more after he came out. We all respected him for his sense of individuality. Where ever you are my friend, stay strong and keep inspiring us.

More powers to you Sukhdeep. I can not even imagine how much difficult it would have been back in 2009 when it was so hard for me to come out in 2019. Loved the way your roommate took stands for you.

I am gay. And gay hona bahot mushkil h.. dosto k aage hypocrisy karni padhi h. Unke saamne ye dikha padha h ki mai bhi girls me interested hu.. Mai kisi friend k aage hota hu or kisi larki you dekhta hu toh unse the kehta hu " she is so sexy. Kash mujhe mil jaati 🤣🤣. U can't identify a gay by your eyes... we look like ordinary boys . I like sport . I have muscle, daadhi munch every thing . Body style of a gay is completely similar to straight.. but agar koi larka mujhse haath milata tha ya hug , touch karta tha . Jese generally koi friend apne friend ko karta h.. toh meri dil ki dharkan tej ho jaati thi. I hesitate. Mai turant waha se bhaagne k kosis karta tha.. dar rehta tha ki unko meri orientation k bare me pata na lag jaae... Gay generally run away from boys in public life. Even I don't want to see any cute boy . It's memory will disturb me all the night . They don't hesitate with girls..... We love . Just like straight (But they love opposite gender &we love same gender) We look same as straight &our body language is also same But in addition we have orientation different from they. That's why . We try to show them .. we are also straight.. but it's so difficult

Same as with me.....100%.....I don't know why hindi movies show a gay boy with girlish nature or childish nature....I have biseps....dole no one can believe that I m a gay....this is so fearful to share our thought to close friend...one of my childhood friend I don't even tell him about me....because I know his nature he is like chugli chachi🤣🤣🤣🤣

Koi ye keh de ki gay ki marriage kisi khoobsurat larki se kardo toh uska orientation badal jaega.. it is totally wrong Yahi k baat h. Jab ek gay larke k parents ko pata chala ki unka beta gay h to unhone uski shadi ek khoobsurat doctor larki se kar di... kuch din beet gae.. ek din larki ne usse pucha ki ab hame sambandh (sexual relationship) banana chahiye.. usne taal diya.. wo kabhi keh deta ki " I am tired, kaafi kaam h aaj, aaj der se aaunga, aaj mood nhi h etc".. ek din uski wife ne uska laptop or books dekhi. And she jumped from12th floor . Badnami se bachne k liye us becharene bhi zeher kha liya Both were finished I am also gay.. agar meri shaadi mere parents ne kisi larki se kardi toh same situation hogi ya divorce hoga... dono ki zindagi barbaad hogi 😭😭

A good and informative video. However, comments of a few boys in the video saying that they didn't know what was "gay" and "homosexuality" while in an engineering college, is a bit unrealistic and difficult to accept.

Believable to me, because I came to know about in only high school, when a neighborhood friend told me, I think the film Dostana had just came out... It would been around 2009, not sure

@@NileshKumar-nr2vj in high school and in engineering college it's four year difference....everyone come to know in high school because that age is adults age there are so many harmones change in our body....but in college everyone decide what is good for him ।।। Likes they like boy or girl....❤️❤️

@@sarkaribabumamo that's true. But imagine someone who happens to be straight and never have had this conversation about that there are people who likes other things as well. In 2009 which is the time of this story. Internet had just started to be part of most people. When you are using internet like KZfaq Twitter Facebook etc, its impossible to have never come across the word LGBT, in today's day and age. But internet wasn't part of our culture back then. And there were no mainstream media talking about it. I have a friend who only get to about homosexuality once he entered university hostel. And introduction to it in hostels is the worst thing, because it was a joke "gandu", like whoever was close friends we're termed Gandu in hostel. My friend was really angry because he mistreated by seniors for being "beautiful", like really light skinned and no facial hair... But I get your point.. Once you are in college it's literally impossible to have never come across these words not just in 2009 but any time in past.... And now even 10 year old knows about homosexuality
