Telling your doc you're asexual is usually a fun trip through a physical investigation of what's wrong with you to blood tests to find out why you don't want to bone people to a Very Serious conversation about how you need to see a therapist because sex is vital to a healthy life. @@wolfwhisper40 You're in a good place in a sense, because you know you're ace and that there's nothing wrong with you (I didn't have this knowledge back in the day, because no one knew what an asexual was.) It sucks to get pathologized--it's embarassing and uncomfortable and it takes up time you could be using to address your actual medical concerns--but you'll ultimately be okay. Just tell your doc and see how they react. The worst case is that you'll find out your doctor isn't the right fit for you. Best case is they'll be great about it. Probably they'll be somewhere between. ♥ Hang in there.

Refuse the tests. Don't let ANYONE discriminate you. Granted, the first time I heard about asexuality, I was confused too. It was as if someone had told me they don't like food. No sweets, okay. Dislike spicy foods, sure. But... generally don't enjoy eating? However, sex is NOT vital, so your doctor has no right to "investigate" unless you explicitly ask them to do so. I have long since come to realize that asexuality is just as natural, though maybe not as common a variation as homo- and bisexuality. Just tell your doc to pretty please educate themselves first and then start taking care of what parts of your health may be of real concern.

I'm glad that you're so open and fine with patients being a part of the LGBTQ+ community. It's so nerve-racking and scary coming out to people, and you always have to make sure that it's safe to come out, so when someone's supportive it's really heartwarming and a lot more comfortable being around them. I hate how we have to be so wary. I hate how people despise us.

The best question a doctor ever asked me was, "do you have sex with men, women, or a little of both?" I hadn't come out yet, but that question let me know it was safe to do so. And then we didn't waste time with discussions about pregnancy tests and condom use with men. My care was tailored to ME. You would not believe how many doctors discriminate against LGBTQ people, and if you live in an area where you don't have a lot of choice in who your doctor is, it can be scary and dangerous to come out to a doctor.

@@sandygonsalves4646 Please consider that cis people (not trans) also request and are given breast reductions, without seeing a doctor for an incredibly long time (as many people imply that trans individuals need to). @sandygonsalves4646

@@ev_rlasting There is a thing called Body integrity disorder in which a person can have a strange fixation on wanting a missing limb. Should we then just cut of their arm and leg to alleviate their discomfort? There is a difference between reducing someone breast / cutting them off due to a physical medical problem, - such as tumours, or spinal cord issues - vs cutting them off due to a mental condition that was likely not extensively explored OR could very well debilitate over time. I read a story of someone who knew a 16 year old girl who was convinced she was trans. She was approved for a mastectomy after 1-2 visits to the doctor. Weeks after her breasts were removed, she came back to said clinic begging for her breasts back as she realized she wasn't trans. And you REALLY think approving a surgery to take away breast tissue for a mental condition not properly explored is ethical?
@ev_rlasting
@ev_rlasting 10 ай бұрын
@@sandygonsalves4646 I didn't say that at all, I would appreciate if you didn't put words in my mouth. Cosmetic breast reductions exist and are accepted in society. Gender criticals only take issue when it involves trans people having autonomy over their own bodies. For the record your argument's logic implies you don't believe any cosmetic surgery or permanent cosmetic treatment should exist, along with tattoos and other body mods. You could argue all are caused by body dysmorphia, other self image issues or self harm. But nobody argued that. Because our autonomy is only questioned when we are trans. Additionally, if you don't have a doctorate yourself (or even if you do- you've never MET this person) I'm confused as to why you immediately assume to "know better" about a patient than their own doctor
@sandygonsalves4646
@sandygonsalves4646 10 ай бұрын
@@ev_rlasting "I didn't say that at all, I would appreciate if you didn't put words in my mouth." I didn't say you did. I said it to illustrate a point. As to the rest of your comment: First of all if you're referring to the cutting off of breasts as "cosmetic" , you're only further invalidating it as a medical need. Nice going. Second, in no way did my comment argue against tattoos or any cosmetic alteration. What I argued against is the practice of mutilating someone's body after they've had only ONE visit to the doctor and no extensive history of therapeutic counseling to support that getting a breast reduction or mastectomy is the best course of action for that individual. Same as you wouldn't cut off a person's arm just cause they asked for it, you don't cut off a person's breasts just cus they asked for it. " I'm confused as to why you immediately assume to "know better" about a patient than their own doctor" It doesn't take a being a doctor to know what is ethical and what isn't. The practice of cutting off breasts or doing bottom surgery on someone who had only ONE or TWO visits to the doctor about their GD, is WHOLY unethical.

To answer the question of, how many hairs are on the body… (As a licensed Cosmetologist in 6 states over the last 35 years), I can answer for the scalp. There are 3 numbers based upon your natural hair color… redheads have approx 70-80k hair follicles, brunettes 90-100k and blondes 100-140k. In addition it’s important to note that blondes have the thinnest diameter strands of hair and redheads the thickest diameter. Always love your videos Dr Mike.

A few years ago I remember reading a study or just a short story of a 60 year old man that was yelled at by his mom as a kid for cracking his knuckles, because "it will give you arthritis". He cracked his knuckles on one hand but not the other for decades, the hand he cracked didn't have arthritis but the other did. Told my grandma this when she tried to be a Karen to the lady I got a masage from for cracking my toes.

I'm a gay man. I was calling around to find a personal physician a few years ago. I asked an office assistant if the doctor was LGBTQ friendly and the response was, "Why should that matter?! We treat all our clients equally." This was a red flag. The conversations just aren't the same. The office assistant's response sent me right on to the next doctor's listing. I've been very fortunate with public clinics to always get amazing care, but I have gay friends with private doctors who have had sti's misdianosed for weeks due to communication issues.

I remember the first time a doctor asked me about my sexuality. I told them I am bi, and I automatically got a super judgy conversation about how they weren’t sure if I was being honest about only having one partner. “We’ve just seen so much crazy stuff with bisexuals.” Then they made me pay $400 for “mandatory STD screening”. When I asked why, they said it was company policy for bisexual people (or basically anyone who wasn’t straight). Of course, this wasn’t disclosed before my exam with a doctor who was way too rapey to be working with people with vaginas. Since then, I’ve made sure to screen my medical team members before I even set up the first appointment.

5:16 the way my psychology teacher explained drinking tolerance is that someone who drinks a lot has more practice for predicted situations, but still won't react well if you were to suddenly throw something at them. That's why drunk driving is always a bad idea. Driving is full of small, but unexpected situations. You need to quickly decide how hard to brake, and when to change lanes. While drunk, you can't do that as well.

My mom (gynecologist/sexologist) and i (just her lgbtq+ kid lmao) were talking about respectful ways to approach the subject of sexuality, and we came up with "do you have penetrative sex or not?", and then asking them to elaborate if necessary. It is the best way we came up with without immediately assuming someone's sexual orientation or gender identity!

The problem with cell phones for the elderly is that they don't carry them with them the way us younger folks do. I am a caregiver in a senior living facility and all of them have cell phones, but they leave them on the charger unless they go out, so I think having a life alert necklace or bracelet is best in case of a fall in their apartment.

i was diagnosed with anxiety and depression, and i was talking to my doctor about getting a therapist. at some point i remember mentioning that i identified as non-binary, and immediately she started listing and giving me the numbers of tons of therapists who specialize in gender. i tried to explain to her that i was comfortable with my gender , but she was set on thinking that it was the cause of my mental health issues (it was stress from school and my best friends attempt) I'm no longer seeing her!
