I would really like for "Retro Reviews" to become a monthly thing, like 1 Retro Review per month or so. Shows the younglings how great gaming used to be and what they may be missing out on. I really hope C&C Remastered was successful enough for more. Could you imagine a HD version of C&C Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 bundled together with expansions and with no Origins required, just 20€ on steam? That would be a dream.

Bloody loved this... remember being a sales gimp at PC World when it came out, got to take it home home week before release. I was single, living in a student flat and having a brand new 'top' PC. Spent an entire weekend I front of those, pretty much non stop (breaking to run down to the local kebab place)..... PC games in late 90s/early 2000s were the hight of gaming. For anybody who wants to play the game remember that the game patches which were solely designed to rebalance multiplayer gameplay, affects the gameplay balance of skirmish/single player, so you can revert the patches to make the skirmish/single player campaign more balanced
@TheGriefmaker
@TheGriefmaker 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the campaign sucks if you play with the latest patches. A certain defence mission is tedious and once you get to the scrin they have units that can shoot you and they are not even showing on your monitor because they are so far away. That’s when i gave up. There is no roll back of patches if you are playing it on steam.
@e-satan9032
@e-satan9032 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the balance patches screws up the game. I didn't have much difficulties with them though, but they still kinda break the campaign, forcing you to resort to the non-fun or unintended way of playing them.

I've been playing this game solidly since it came out pretty much, totally agree it's peak C&C. The toughest level AI is suitably tough so the local SP skirmish is worth it on its own, but you can still play it MP online with a community replacement for the old MP called C&C online. The campaigns have some great polish and the whole game has super high production values. Just missing the old school Frank Klepacki soundtrack of the earlier C&Cs. Maybe the only downside to this game is it's 30fps, but that hardly matters for a C&C game. FWIW I've never had to do any weird shenanigans to get it to play at native res, even on my 1440p monitor.

@@unstableordinance Indeed, altho i did use a mod to unlock the fps in Generals. I uploaded a video about that like... hmm years ago I think? It works, but its kind of buggy. Sometimes it starts speeding the game, other times it just works like a normal game. Thats why I wont bother with the fps anymore. 30 It is I guess. P.s. Yep, once there are a million units, the game slows down big time. Sometimes it crashes too, but Gentool and 1 other mod kind of fixes that a little bit. So it just makes the game slow, without having it crashing

6:00 - I fully Agree Mack. The artstyle is just wonderful. The heat-shimmering from stuff, the explosions, the shading and post-processing is just amazing. When I saw the title I thought "oh boy - let's see how another classic of mine has aged". And I was pleasantly surprised. Yeah it's not crisis-level but for the time and the RTS genre it looks damn good. Love the style. Totally forgot about the Scrin.

According to one theory, Kane is one of the last members of the original Scrin species, who were decimated as a result of a war fought against the Scrin mutated by Tiberium exposure, the same ones who, millennia later, would attack Earth. After the war, the mutated Scrins forgot their origins, but above all they forgot the conflict fought against the original Scrins and became a nomadic people, however their databases retain some data dating back to the period when their home planet began to be infested with Tiberium or before it, including some information about Kane.

Playing a good game that has aged really well is not only refreshing to me but also rekindles some of that imagination and helps me pin down why I even played games to begin with. Red Alert 3 was my first introduction to Command & Conquer followed by Tiberium Wars, but I hadn't really appreciated C&C until I looked into its history and saw how much It changed Real Time Strategy games. It seems weird to me that only a couple years ago Warcraft 3, C&C remaster and even Age of Empires DE / 4 all gave RTS games some real attention, one of them being an absolute shameful mess of course.

I played this on release during what felt like the hay day of gaming. I didn't know a game like this could get better until Kane's Wrath was released, and you had nine beautifully balanced factions with unique ways of playing. Games like this don't seem to get made anymore and it's a real shame what happened to the c&c franchise.

My favorite C&C game is still the first Red Alert, I actually started playing the campaign again last week, but I think C&C3 was the most accomplished of them all. I appreciated that they brought the cheesiness down a level with this one, it got a bit much for me in some of the others like Red Alert 3. I don't think this beats Starcraft 2 in terms of all time greatest but it's still one of the best RTS games ever made, in spite of EA.

This was definitely one of C&Cs best instalments. Absolutely loved it 👍🏻

This aged like wine. At its time it was „yeah all right“. But today it is a gem of a lost genre
