While my group isn't officially a boxing league pod, this is basically how I build all my decks. the online resources (EDHRec, Archidekt, etc) feel too much like work to me. I far prefer to buy a bundle and/or prerelease kit, pick an inspiring commander, then build from that bulk, then go in to my older stuff as needed.
