@@SyDiko This is kind of true of all Magic decks. Getting counterspelled, getting burned out, watching your opponent steadily cycle every creature they own through their graveyard and the battlefield, gaining more value each time (the one I'm personally guilty of - _Meren for life, death, and everything in-between!),_ they all feel pretty much exactly the same. Winning is only fun for the person who wins, it's the thrill of jockeying to be the one who does that keeps the losers trying. The Simic player has simply developed a new form of jockeying to win, where rather than figuring out how to beat the opponent they're figuring out how to beat the game's limitations on card draw and mana availability. Arguably they've optimized the whole process - they don't have to win the game to feel like they're winning, so they can philosophically win every every game except ones where they don't get to make tons of mana and draw tons of cards. Conversely, the Stax player who can do that to them likely feels immense disappointment whenever they fail to pull their lock state off, and they only win the game when they do that. Combine that with opponents being annoyed and bored by not getting their own chance to jockey and taking it out on the stax player with insults and salt, the stax player is likely satisfied less times than the number of games they win. Essentially, Magic is a game where the satisfaction of winning = number of games won - number of games you could have won but didn't - number of games where you didn't have the _chance_ to lose. But for the Simic player, it's number of cards drawn + amount of mana generated + games you won - amount of cards and mana you were actively prevented from getting, a far better ratio.

That speaks to me on a spiritual level

i realized he was me with my aesi deck. it had koma, imoti, kinnan, arixmethes, tatyova, uro, esix, and adrix and nev. then a bunch of ramp and counterspells. it COULD win, but it just didn't.

@@camj1758 nice. i got smoked by akroma's memorial in my first game of commander so it's got a soft spot for me. my copy is in my lathril elfball. i like imoti a lot too but there''s already a few imoti's in my local meta so i turned the the deck into koma.

I played Depala and had the same problem. Ended up running Kykar instead. The deck performed well but I lost the flavor and my vorthos couldn't handle it.

Me too, and I actually have Jor Kadeen in that deck. Maybe I should just make him the commander instead 🤔

My depala deck is getting better, good utility dwarfs have been coming the past couple sets so it’s been going decently, just haveing a dwarfen visionary now is a huge upgrade, as well as the artifact destruction one from forgotten relms, combined with Magda and some other decent khaldhiem ones seem to make the dwarf part of depala seem more relevant than the flavor text it used to be

@@zacharysain8516 Good point, haven't bought any of the recent sets in paper but you're right with better-quality dwarves in AFR, etc. I should buy some singles...

W/U Vehicls can really get going and personally Jeskai Vehicles are fun.

I’d thought about it, but never really sat down to brainstorm it. I think I’ll just build this one now and season to taste from there. This deck does sound fun.

Vela makes most vehicles very evasive, and Macar turns an enemy creature into gold every time he's done crewing. If you can turn Macar into an artifact, you can untap him multiple times per turn, potentially turning the entire board into gold.

I built a Phyrexia Tribal deck with Atraxa as the commander running all the good praetors and pretty much any other card that featured "Phyrexia". Of course there's some +1/+1 counter and infect sub-themes, but it's really not that optimized and is mostly just flavor; Phyrexian oil-flavored, that is.
