Love how you played it. Not too stealthy, not too overt. The briefing said "Destroy the HQ and bring mayhem to the zone". You did exactly that. Hats off to you mate. Top shelf stuff!

Well I certainly did this mission the hard way. I had no idea you could shoot across the river with the tank. It took me hours to clear all the enemy soldiers without raising the alarm. lol.

lol .. me neither. i had to go around the supply drops and all the way into the hq. use the beret and the sapper. took me a while .. but it felt more fun, the not raising the alarm bit.

This game is one of the masterpieces of 90s gaming. I enjoyed Commandos 2, and Commandos 3 was mediocre, but Behind Enemy Lines is one of the top strategy games of all time. It's like what Command and Conquer was to RTS.

@@user-wh5gc4to2d You can always shoot them, if you want to get your commandos lighted up by it. Hint: the fuel tank on tanks and armored cars is a weak point.

I just saw this video and realized I may be the only one here who did not shoot from the tank on the other side of the river. Actually I did but then I saw the 5 man patrol at HQ entrance and decided against it. I actually did this the normal way without alarms across the bridge with Green Beret, Marine & Sniper. Thats why i put this mission among the 10 hardest missions in BEL. But it took a lot of time, of course. Guess it depends on one's style .... do u wanna figure out the fastest solution or do u wanna explore the whole map & figure out its challenges without alarm (unless alarm is absolutely unavoidable & you have a way out of it). Both are equally challenging & interesting styles.

Played this game from 2002-2018, what a masterpiece that captivated me for 16 years before my Win XP desktop finally broke and I got my new laptop. Mission 4 and 18 were my most favorite, mission 8 hard. The Mariner/Diver is my most favorite.

I remember leaving the motorbike or APC on the traintracks. I don’t recal whether that caused the train to derail.

He saw him , that one is not programmed to attack the player , same as the generals like schleper in mission 15 or the one from mission 19 . They do not attack the player even if they saw him .

yes, he was hit by the truck before you see it. Sometimes on this tight corners the truck doesnt stop on spot and kills some patrols.

I was able to hop the panzer tank, but I cannot fire, the mouse only leads the tank. I tried all sorts of combination, but I cannot seem to find how to fire the tank's guns. What am I missing? Thanks.

I prefer being stealthy, but this usually entails that missions like this take 1-2 hours instead of 15 minutes - which I am fine with, as I enjoy being slow and careful a lot. But I'm also very bad at finding all the advantages the map gives to the player. For example, it never occurred to me, that you can simply use the boat on the upper left corner to get to the enemy base. Or that you can climb down the train bridge. I also found out that you can use the tank in the beginnung only after I already killed all the soldiers the normal way at the crossing. Using the tank would've been a lot easier. >.

True, this is one those situations where I would have already gotten a promotion if I hadn't had to redo any videos. I originally got only two stars for mission 1 in the playthrough this mission was taken from, so that's why my merit is shown as only five stars (instead of zero and a promotion).

I believe the merit is arbitrary to the task at hand. I did everything in the same way as you did and I even took the Sniper and Driver together with the Sapper in order to get the equipment and I got the same grades. The only difference is that I killed 53 men instead of 55 because one patrol didn't want to check on the grenade explosions.

I finally learned that killing people and destroying stuff bears no weight in the merit. Only time of completion and damage taken by your squad.

One ways is to kill as many enemy soldiers as possible in groups, especially if they think as individuals (only patrols think like groups).

@@filipeamaral216 Duh.. It said in the game manual and it was very clear that only the time and damage mattered. I played this game in 1999 but still remember the first 14 stages which I did really quickly. The last 6 were very hard for me.

At the end of this mission I get the bug just like in this video. When I regroup everybody into the escape boat, I get no animation of the boat leaving the dock. It does not effect the completion of the mission nonetheless, but anyway, do you always get this kind of bug? Interesting approach and nice job though, it is hard to get three star merit in this mission.

Yeah, I always get that bug whenever I play the game using the executable file from the Commandos Ultimate Fix. However, if I run the original Comandos.exe of the Steam version of the game instead (with BEL Loader to fix the speed issue), the bug does not occur. I still prefer the Ultimate Fix, though, because BEL Loader causes the game to crash more frequently and also makes saving and loading quite slow.

11:20 the first time trying to copy Your moves, I shot the guard at the motorbike, and killed this guard with a harpoon. I wonder if it has something to do with time, or did I just waste too much time killing the first patrols after sounding the alarm?

Through this mission you've got a panzer II tank, it's more easier than any other chapter of Commandos behind line.No one can distroy the tank. And the tank's weapon can also shoot across the river side.

The parachuted equipment being checked upon by the enemy until you arrive to retrieve it reminds me of a certain level from Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Tank theft reminds me of good old Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and the movie Captain America: The First Avenger. 8:47: ...Reminds me of certain moments in Splinter Cell and Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. Those are some ultra-potent WW2 grenades, coming from this game.

but the game awarded him with perfect 3 star mission merit and 5 star - almost perfect merit. he played the way developer wanted him to, not the obvious common way
