Male grackles showing off to one and other. The camera angle isn't the best but I decided to post the video anyway.

Man I love watching grackles. They can be bullies and hog feeders but..they have such little personalities. I can literally tell them apart just by personality alone. I love their different walks. The army march, the tough guy, the puff ball with legs. I had one today chasing another grackle down the drive, and he was all puffed out waddling. It was hilarious.

Hello grackles the great Wing crackle common grackle there's a lesser Graco in California but here in West Texas we got these guys first time I saw them there was a bunch of male staring up in the air and I looked up to see what they were doing they were displaying for females but I didn't know this The gather in the trees twice a year and they're just making all kinds of racket and stuff and we call them gossip trees cuz it's like they're telling each other all kinds of stories and then when they lose all their tail feathers and they look so beat up they are fascinating creature and their vocabulary is just immense can't get enough of them and yet idiots here shoot them and I told him that if you do that you're violating Texas law and federal law cuz they're protected but some people just don't appreciate beauty when I first saw them I thought they were small crows

These grackles sound a lot like the ones I remember hearing when I was growing up in southwestern Ohio, except the ones there had a call which was more high pitched and squeaky to the point that they really did sound like a rusty gate. One of the birds in this clip is actually coming pretty close to that.

@OreadNYC4 ай бұрын
@troshs I'm familiar with starlings and I'm aware that they can imitate sounds they hear as well as having a range of their own calls. Grackles are quite a bit bigger than starlings, however, and don't have any speckles on their plumage even though it looks like the feathers of both grackles and starlings have a faint iridescent sheen to them.

Does anyone else find them extremely annoying? Like we had a whole flock of them in our yard one time cuz a grain truck spilled a little and it was so annoying. They were all shrieking and strutting around and picking at the ground and shrieking some more at like 5-6 in the morning on a Saturday. Like the one day I get to sleep in and stupid birds gotta be noisy and ruin it. At least they were pretty.

Yeah, actually they do. There are lots of comments all over the Grackle vids posted by mean ignorant people who lure them into the yard with the audio and then shoot them. There are lots of comments about poisoning them, and other sadistic practices. Whenever I see one of those, I have to say something, and it isn't kind. Grackles are sort of outcasts, much like the pigeons. So called "normal" people love to hate them. Since I'm a bit of an outcast myself, pigeons and grackles are my brothers.

these are not songbirds they emit alien sounding like digital frequency dial up modem. This is first year I am seeing them in my yard. I think they are scouting here because they noticed pigeons nesting in nearby hedges very early in the Spring. These grackles are highly resourceful and they figure if the pigeons are there then there must be the promise of a food source. they have driven away the pigeons which is good because I can't stand the sound they make either. I don't like them at all..at all.
