The darker sampling for this remix is truly insightful. The original provided a more optimistic view of a black man's dealing with racism on a person level (due to No I.D.'s lovely piano sample) but Large Professor's version takes the same lyric material and his bass heavy sampling delivers an alternate tone for this topic. Common is extraordinary and the on-point production is a triumph of golden age techniques which have been lost over the past decade.

This should’ve been the original on Resurrection album! When Boot Camp freestyle to this beat it was amazing! Common was and is still a certified legend in hip hop. I wished sometimes he go back to just lyrics and proving he still that emcee. But I understand everybody get older and they mind frame changes 💯

Yo, I was just getting ready to type that this beat was on Tony Touch 50 Emcees legendary Mixtape! If anybody remembers when this dropped n was able to cop it! Those were the days (long before dial up Internet n all). I bumped into this kid who was playin it on a portable stereo n was like WTF is that - he replied it was the new Tony Touch 50 Emcees Mix Tape.... Don't you know I immediately was on my way to buy that tape! It dropped right before summer sometime in the mid to late 90's. That was one of - if not the best mixtapes of the 90's by Tony Touch.... And I honestly think it showcased a lot of promotion for the artists and the producers' beats. Especially that Resurrection Remix beat as remixes were a huge staple for being exclusively showcased on Mixtapes in general
