Plan on heading to Vietnam next year. Looking forward to meeting the lovely person I am currently talking to. Her English is good but I want to learn Vietnamese. I find it difficult but am grateful for this channel and many others who are teaching it. Who knows. I might end up getting together with her or someone else in Vietnam. Either way I was planning on vacationing there. I am interested in the culture and seeing the way of life. I have heard many pros about Vietnam. Yes there are downsides but that's everywhere. Can't wait to go.

You are super cute! So terrific at getting my American speaking mind to understand how to make my mouth sound out these expressions pretty well. This is a very difficult language for me and most English only speakers but if I can learn enough to not offend while being understood then I think that will be fabulous! I know this comment is 5 yrs late of post but maybe you'll see it. Làm tốt lắm, hãy tiếp tục nhé!

Hi So Vietnamese Mom! I've made fantastic notes from this video - you're truly a fantastic educator! Do you happen to do FaceTime coaching? I'm doing a Contiki in six months and I really want to have a conversational knowledge of Vietnamese before I come. Another thing, do the people of Vietnam happen to know French as well as a result of colonisation? Being Australian, I try to be sensitive to how colonisation works so I don't want to step on any toes. I speak conversational French so I'm just wondering if my Vietnamese fails that maybe I can speak French instead? Thank you or cám ón!
@PeteSuChannel
@PeteSuChannel Жыл бұрын
Hi Liam, thanks a lot for the kind comment 😊 I don't do Facetime coaching unfortunately, but I can answer some of your questions here. You can definitely enjoy your trip to Vietnam without mentioning the word colonisation when you're there. We don't normally talk about it in our daily conversation. We do talk a lot about food and you can start any conversations with any one by asking where to go for the best street food. Vietnamese is the main spoken language and English is being taught at school as the 2nd language. So you should be alright in Vietnam 😊

Hello So Vietnamese mom! Thank you so much for your videos, very helpful. Is it more polite or common to use xin lỗi for saying "excuse me" (instead of cho Hồi) ?
@PeteSuChannel
@PeteSuChannel 7 ай бұрын
We normally say xin lỗi for a mistake made or something has gone wrong. If you want to get the attention from people, it's better to say Anh/Chị/Em ơi, cho hỏi...

There's never really any rule you must follow. To be more polite, you can refer to them as the older pronoun as it's a way of showing respect.

You are probably the best Vietnamese language teacher I have encountered. However, I had to stop listening mid lesson because of that horribly annoying loud Belltone that is constantly ringing at a volume higher than your voice.😢

some constructive advise. Please say each phrase at normal speed at least once instead of in slow motion so we can get a feel for the right way to say it. You don't do that and teach us how to say it like an alien lol. But thanks anyway .
@PeteSuChannel
@PeteSuChannel Жыл бұрын
As a professional Vietnamese speaker, I can guarantee that Vietnamese people would refer you to say it slow but correct than say it fast just for the sake of it. In general, as long as you can give it a try, we don't mind if you make a mistake.
